[It was past midnight, the old castle was quiet as most of the troops were already in bed. Levi is use to these quiet nights. He could only sleep but for so long until his insomnia kicked in, or maybe it is more because the chair he sleeps in is so uncomfortable. Either way, he is up. A kettle of still hot tea sits in front of him on top of a cloth on the wooden table. Two tea cups sat besides it, still steaming.

He sighs heavily, leaning back in his chair as he closes his eyes for a moment. He isn't tired anymore, he was just thinking. About Eren, the mission coming up, and how nearly insane it was. It was all riding on Eren, and he didn't even have his powers under his will yet. It was troublesome.]

What do you think about all of this, Petra?

[His eyes opened again and stares at her and then his tea. He doesn't put any milk or sugar in his tea, he likes it bitter and strong. His fingers go to the rim of the cup and he holds it steady as he slowly brings it to his lips. He hears a roll of thunder in the distance.]

her answer is curt but honest. too much has happened in too little time, and, despite the couple years of experience she possesses under her belt, she still feels this mission is over her head. nothing she'd done prior prepared her for the probability of utilizing a titan in a tactical manner, but this mattered little; the entire point is to avoid this anomaly at all costs. no classroom nor training session can ever prepare for actual field combat, this they'd all learned before--those that didn't grimly no longer ride into battle--but eren's situation feels like something from a wive's tale.

titan boy. that's what some of the fresher recruits started calling him. without levi's interference, he'd certainly be ostracized, subject to experiments much too cruel for a boy his age. instead, fate would have him be an instrument to humanity’s freedom, and her life, their lives, serve as insurance to his safety. desperate times, desperate measures.

she wants to expand further upon the nothingness filling her mind, but still finds herself at a loss of words. the atmosphere had always been grim with a new assignment at hand.

If they had been in that cell with him and seen that look in his eye when Erwin mentioned what his desire was, well maybe then they would have a change of heart. Levi knows this kid is the real deal, he just didn't like that they had so much riding on him.

"It's alright, Petra. It's a odd situation."

The thunder rolls again, this time with a flash of lightening out the window. He turns in his seat to stare for a moment. "It will be weird going back to Wall Maria, we haven't been there in years." He wonders for a moment if the Titans really did destroy everything there. He sits there, staring at the sky before he realizes something. "Did you live in Wall Maria?"
