Some people just attract trouble wherever they go; you're cut from that cloth, whether you want it or not. You go on adventures, you battle, you get into ~~battles~~ fights, honestly, because of your mouth, don't take care of yourself, or you just invite stress wherever you go even if you're completely innocent. Can you go a week without getting your peace, or whatever's left of it, disturbed? Probably not.

There's always one place away from that black cloud, though: by the side of your crush, your significant other, your lover, or your plain special person. It's no safe house that they're perpetually in, exactly. It's...them. Just them being themselves. They're always there to support you in any form you need, with or without providing your needed douse of reality. If they have to, they'll clean you up, bandage you if you're bleeding out, feed you, cuddle with you, or give you the respect and distance your bruised ego requires. In the end, they're always the one you need. Admit it.

No? Okay, they'll still be the shoulder you can always rest on. Even the most hardened of badasses (which you don't have to be) could use that once in a while. Don't worry if you don't deserve them - you probably don't, but who deserves anything? Enjoy being supported and enjoy it regularly.

[Shes most likely to be the one supporting ]

(I'll be happy to write the starter. I'm thinking AU him into MCU. He's a professor of antiquities who has stumbled into something big and dangerous without knowing what he was getting into. She could be his grad student? Fellow colleague? Or he could have come to Nelson and Murdock for legal help. If you have any preferences along that line, just let me know. If you like the sound of it, I'll kick us off.)

Kenric fumbles with his keys, trying to juggle an armful of folders and his tea mug all at the same time. The door swings in on its own. He pauses and glances at Karen. "I must have forgotten to lock the door again." His Scottish brogue is thick still, despite his years at Columbia. Careless, particularly with their current research, yet so like him.

He pushes into the small office without bothering with the light switch. He can get it after he puts down his - the crunch of glass under his feet stops him. "What on earth?"

"What on earth indeed, Professor." The voice coming from the darkness ahead is strange, buzzing, maybe a voice modulator? The figure that comes into view has a malevolent light in his eyes. "You and the woman get in here. Close the door."

"O-of course." His heart is racing. There's no time to think, just follow instinct and pray it's the right decision. He takes one step forward and throws the hot tea, mug and all. He manages to catch some of the slipping folders as he's whirling to go. "Run, Karen! We have to run!"

[Would you like to try something with these two?]

[ People who have been through a lot are more inclined to make it their priority to make sure anyone they cared about never had to endure or suffer alone. As reserved as Shinji was, this was how he was with the few friends he had.

It wasn't fair to Shinji to see someone he cared about enduring or suffering alone. It was alright if the brunet was, but no one else should have to feel what he feels. (In Shinji's logic of course. but that's his own self-hate talking.)

That was why he was earnest to want to ease whatever bothered Lavi. The redhead always gave those kind smiles that would seem reassuring to someone inexperienced. Those smiles honestly fooled Shinji, too, for a while. But Shinji still felt a heavy feeling behind those smiles and that green eye of his. (apathy? lethargy? bitterness? sadness for something inevitable? Shinji just couldn't put a finger on what was gearing in Lavi's head right now.)

More than anything, he wanted to know what to know everything, but he understood. It wouldn't be easy to spill -everything- right away. (That only happens in those corny mangas that Shinji's classmates read.) He would patiently wait for the right times to get every piece.

For now, he comes to find the older teen stretching from his spot with some books and was just now coming to offer him freshly brewed tea. When he remembers he last saw the redhead at that very same spot (which made Shinji frown a bit), the former pilot approached to put the tea beside them and then reached up to massage a shoulder that had to be tense by now from being in that position for a while. When he remembered Lavi's injuries from a bit ago, as well, he had asked,]

Awfully late, isn't it? I made tea if you'd like some... Are you still sore?

[Lavi himself was pretty much the same way, though far from being reserved about it he was very loud and adamant about being there for those he cared about. Even if he didn't admit he cared for them out loud - still, he had his ways of showing his affection. And if that meant clinging to them and insisting that they come with him or vice versa, so be it.

He'd be totally against Shinji being so "selfish" with being the only one to feel that way. No one should feel that way.

Which is why he often gives Shinji all of his real smiles, all of his real emotions when they're together. Give Shinji all his happiness and maybe Shinji will get some happiness too. It's supposed to be infectious, isn't it? A laugh and a smile, the fuzzy warm feelings...

But sometimes even he has trouble finding a happy, Lavi usually ends up going over to Shinji's and hiding out there for a few days just to try and find some normalcy again. So he'd plopped down on the couch in the little nook that had been set aside for him with his books and stayed there pretty much since the night before. The redhead is so in his own thoughts at the moment that he doesn't even notice Shinji's approach until he hears the clink of the tea and he lifts his head.

A soft, pleased groan slips out of him as Shinji rubs the sore shoulder, leaning forward so his head is in the other's stomach.]

Is it? Don't even know what time it is right now... [Lavi wraps his arms around the other's waist, glances at the cup.] Yeah, bit sore.

[And Shinji appreciates those moments more than anything. He may seem hesitant, but it's genuine when you see that he isn't resisting the friendly touches or playful antics. Lavi was making him become ok with being himself when he used to genuinely hate himself. So that also factors as to why Shinji would be so determined to return the favor tenfold if Lavi ever needed it.

Even now, he is trying to ignore the butterflies in his stomach-sensation as he felt Lavi lean on him and felt those arms wrap around him. Not because it was a bad time, no; He just noticed that tonight, it looked like the older boy could use that over-due return of the favor. The brunet reaches a hand up to run it through that soft red hair. (He used to expect it to be spiky as all out but was surprised to feel it was awfully soft when he had a chance to touch it for the first time.) He even comes closer if the older of the two wanted more warmth/closeness.]

Well, anytime after midnight is late for some... But you're not exactly normal, are you? [His fingers still running through that hair and closeness hopefully showed there was no malice in the attempt at teasing/being playful with his special other.]

[Lavi smiles at the reference to him being the oddball and buries his face in Shinji's stomach.] Nah, you wouldn't love me as much as you do if I weren't. [Though he knows that Shinji would love him anyway so really it's a joke for a joke.

Right now he needs it. Injury keeping him from the field and his Innocence being shot as well, he's got a lot of stress built up. A lot of guilt. A lot of it is easing with having Shinji stroke his hair, the feeling of being loved and cherished goes a long way. He's more than a little starved for attention, can you see it, Shinji?

He'd probably pull Shinji onto his lap if he thought the other wouldn't run off blushing for it. Even this is pushing what he knows the former pilot is comfortable with.

Lavi turns his head so that he's not speaking into Shinji's stomach.] Bit of phantom pain maybe? I dunno... 's been awhile since I've been hurt like this.

[Also a reason why he liked Lavi so. He knew how to keep up with Shinji's humor. Or at least someone who encouraged it and not stop Shinji. He couldn't resist cracking a smile and a chuckle at that reply. It is true; he would still love you either way, you silly bunny~.

He stops stroking the exorcist's hair only to wrap his own arms around Lavi's shoulders to pull him into a hug. His own face nuzzles into that soft red hair he loved feeling.

A while with the exorcist helped the younger boy become more proactive about affection, even if he still felt nervous about doing so. Progress was being made!]

I-I'm sorry if I'm bothering you. [He's worried about you, hence why he's up this late looking for you! Please know he's here, Lavi. He might not know how to fix the problem. but if he can help you get through it, that'd be just fine. Say the word and he'll do it!] I just want to help you in any way I can.

[He wouldn't try to stop Shinji from trying anything so long as it wasn't dangerous or harmful. After all, trying things out was what made life more fun~ Lavi smiles a little more and reburies his face briefly, hugging Shinji slightly tighter in a squeeze before easing the pressure. Then after Shinji lifts his head, the redhead does the same to look up at the brunet.]

Nah, you're not bothering me. I'm glad you showed up actually... [He'd started to go stir crazy trapped in his mind and in his books.] I know you will, Shinji.

[He smiles softly.] Would you believe me if I said I just need you with me right now?

[ 'That's all? ...Surely that can't be it. I could do more.' Shinji wants to say but he doesn't because he forgets how to talk for a moment due his nerves and is trying to will away the warmth coming to his cheeks now. (No, don't be blushing this early on, dammit... You're not that smooth, mister! Alright, maybe a little bit.)

It's not that he doesn't trust your words, Lavi. He does. Really. He still just gets taken aback when someone genuinely tells him that he is needed or that you are glad to see him. He never received that kind of reaction until now/after being with you.

Perhaps to make up for his lack of words until now, he surprisingly starts moving and eventually starts sitting on Lavi's lap. Carefully. The other mentioned phantom pains, he does't want to hurt him! His arms were still wrapped around the exorcist's neck.

He has done a lot for Shinji. So the pilot really just wants to return it tend fold.]

Being by yourself with nothing but your thoughts... I-it's not always a good thing to do. [But that's mostly him speaking from his own experience. And it must take alot to let someone be in your space.] So thank you for letting me here. You can tell me anything.

[Ah, but Lavi wouldn't ask for more. Even starved as he is for attention and love, he won't go asking for it. But he doesn't make mention of Shinji's blush at all, he finds it adorable after all, so when Shinji sits on his lap the redhead will nuzzle his cheek.

But part of Shinji's reaction is why he says the things he does, he knows what it's like not to hear them. To be appreciated. He never wants that for anyone else, Shinji included. And the pains are mostly limited to his shoulder and his back, which is why he's not leaning against the wall and sitting in a painful way.]

Ah, but I'm not alone anymore. I have you with me. [Lavi grins at him.] And I can't very well keep you from a place in your own house. [But there isn't much to tell at the moment. And Shinji is a balm for his lonely soul.]

[ The boy stays still for a second when he feels the nuzzle. His eyes close, relishing in that closeness for the moment, his cheeks only feeling even warmer now. You may hear a content hum from him. Quite the progress considering he used to sputter and jump/get startled when contact happened, before. His eyes finally open and look back into the green one.

Perhaps this was just one of the factors that resulted in Shinji gravitating towards Lavi in the first place. Someone who could make an accurate guess as to how his mind worked; just understanding him. He didn't have to explain himself, entirely. Therefore, Shinji really hoped he could return every positive feelings you ever gave him since meeting.

Lips come to press against the redhead's cheek in a gentle kiss, in a surge of boldness that Shinji was able to gather.]

It's not fair that someone amazing like you ever had to be alone. You've done so much for others. [And not just with Shinji, even considering the other exorcists that are Lavi's companions! You are the best and... and...

The boy pauses to gather his courage to finish and not just cave in with nerves. Shinji was always a person of a few words or just uses his actions to get his point across. (so speaking up on what he feels, like this, is something he's working on.)] and we're... lucky to have met you. Please always know that!

Fi could easily be in either role. She is often the caretaker to everyone else in her life, but no one is ever really there to take care of her.]
