Dating? Dating was boring. It was for chumps, normal folk, people who liked 9-5 jobs and coming home to familiar, safe spouses who'd drop a kiss on their cheek, a TV dinner in their lap, and curl up with them on the couch while the nightly news aired segments about home improvement.

Now that Griffin was older and had pretty much learned all there was to learn about out-surviving and outsmarting the global organization singularly devoted to his destruction, well. Dating, in retrospect, seemed almost stupidly commonplace. When you could go any place you wanted, when a single thought could carry you across the world in a blink of an eye, the average things that average people did were too stifling to stand. 'Dating' was one of those things. Easy. Safe. Predictable.

Griffin, stretched out sideways in his chair with one leg splayed over the back and one over the arm, lifted his sketchbook to give it a critical once-over. Portraits were normally a cinch for him. Normally. But although Griffin could check and re-check and erase and re-draw, there was something about Loki's face that wouldn't allow itself to be replicated on the page. A furtive quality, a flash of the eyes, that he couldn't quite get. Oh, it was accurate, it was all accurate, but it wasn't... right.

Thoughtfully, he ran a hand through his hair. A gesture he'd repeated enough times to make his usually unkempt hair even more messy. From an artist's perspective, sketching Loki wasn't easy, or boring, or average. It was a fucking challenge, actually.

Loki didn't often bother to use doors unless he felt like it, which wasn't honestly all that often. It was simply easier to inform the walls that they weren't there, or weren't all that solid, or spin the electrons in just the right resonant frequency, among any number of physical tricks. His unconsciously dramatic arrival this time was unfortunately somewhat marred by the canvas bag slung over one shoulder, which had a cheerful, cross-eyed owl on it.

"I stopped by the shop on the way. Your latest book order was in. I'm a bit hurt you didn't ask if I wanted anything." He set the bag down, not looking at all bothered.

[ It's always big news when a champion is dating someone; at least, it is to Trainer-oriented paparazzi tabloids. But when said Champion is a billionaire and said date-ee is an Elite Four member? It's borderline scandalous.

Steven was thinking just that as he set down a magazine he picked up at the hotel's front desk, sitting up in his bed. He smiled down at the still-sleeping Caitlin - who knew psychics were such heavy sleepers? - her obnoxiously long hair almost acting as another set of blankets.

Steven glanced at the clock. Screw it, she's been asleep long enough. Gently placing his hand on her head, he was grateful for the privacy of the VIP suite he rented for the two of them. It was during the preliminary rounds of the quad-annual Pokémon World Tournament, this year hosted in Unova. The cover of the magazine, now set on a bedside table near Caitlin, featured a picture shot shortly after Steven thoroughly crushed Pryce in the first round. And it was of Steven and Caitlin having a victory kiss, which gave all of the rumors instant credibility. Both of them had since stopped skirting the issue when it came to interviews and whatever the Pokémon world's equivalent to Twitter was. ]
