FOOLING AROUND

Somewhere further than making out yet not quite going all the way, "fooling around" is a time honored tradition. It's easy, low-pressure, and there are no real parameters - above the clothes or not. Sound good? Maybe you're young and want to try but not commit to anything too carnal. Similarly, you could want to explore somebody's, well, body because they're so different than you. There's also the possibility that you want to make them happy or see how they react to feeling beyond great. Could it be that you're a tease, even?

Or you could just be bored. There's nothing on TV, anyway.

[ It's a familiar setup: a movie and the sofa.

Whatever's playing isn't something that holds much interest for him now, distracted by the curl of his fingers around Natasha's as they lean against each other and settle into a routine that's become incredibly easy after so long of following similar patterns. Regardless of where they are, he likes the connection, and Steve doesn't have to fight for it when it's just the two of them, when his thumb strokes the inner part of her wrist as if he's thinking too much about something else that isn't even there. But it doesn't last long, eventually shifting to duck his head and brush some of her hair away from her ear as if he's made up his mind. The film can be replayed, though he's learning rather quickly that most plots aren't exactly original anymore, and he presses his mouth to her temple, the softest kiss that sparks another.

He follows an invisible path down the side of her face, close enough to her ear like he's going to whisper something into it, a secret or words he hasn't actually found the courage to say to her, but he doesn't. Instead, Steve kisses the point just below her ear, breathes her in while his hand slips from hers to cup her cheek and tilt her head towards him. He gives her a slow, sweet smile, just a careful curve of his lips that hints at what he might be planning, and rather than rush it, he takes his time exploring the slope of her neck and the underside of her jaw. ]

[ There are times when she doesn't mind the bustle of the city, it's still her go-to when she needs to get lost for a while; blend in and disappear, no one the wiser. But Natasha's realized, over the course of this shifting equilibrium they have, that maybe she's been getting lost for too long. And maybe she doesn't mind if he's the one to find her, keep her; all these pieces of herself she's ignored, pretended don't exist. Maybe she wants these quiet moments where the movie doesn't matter and she doesn't have to remember what mask she's wearing, who she's pretending to be.

And maybe it's okay to let herself have them even if she can't ever fully not be what she is, can't ever not keep half an eye and ear out for threats.

She lets that process shift to the background as he thumbs the pulse point on the inside of her wrist, brushes her hair out of his way to graze his mouth against her temple and down the path he's made for himself. Steve's breath rushes warm over her ear and Natasha's head angles for him as his lips find the spot below it. She knows the smile he's wearing all too well and this is another movie they probably won't finish, but she doesn't mind that either as he untangles their hands to tilt her head toward him, lets his mouth trail over her neck and the line of her jaw.

He's dragging it out, she knows, and she lets him; gives him back the gentleness he's taught her, the care he deserves. There's a sigh in the back of her throat — happy, barely a vibration against his lips and the smile he gets in return when she pulls back to look at him is soft and guileless as Natasha slides a palm along his jawline, tracing the line of his bottom lip with the pad of her thumb. Tells him with her touch what she can't find the courage to say yet, either. She shifts, angling herself a little more fully toward him as her smile goes from guileless to knowing, hint of mischief lining the corners. ]

If the movie was boring you, you could've just said so...
