APPRENTICE-SHIPPING

From the moment we begin our lives, we're learning. It's imperative to surviving, to growing - don't walk in the shadows, it's dangerous, don't touch the fire, you'll be hurt. These days, most continue to hone this natural instinct with formal schooling, but that's certainly not the end all, be all of knowledge. If you go to school or not, if you have the opportunity or otherwise, you won't stop sharpening your mind after those formative years. That's just not the way our incredible brains work.

You, specifically, have actually decided to something equally incredible: you want to really dedicate yourself to learning a skill, and what better way than an apprenticeship? Formal or informal, you're under someone's tutelage, absorbing everything they can teach, growing closer to them in the process...

...unfortunately, though, you've gained a little something extra with that bite from the fruit of knowledge. You've fallen for your mentor.

((Liam's a Marvel inspired character. To be exact X-Men. I don't claim to know a lot of Marvel however.

I'm open to both M/M and M/F, although partial to M/M. As for a potential age gap, I don't want it to be too wide. 30 years is my limit IF you wish to engage in more smutty options. Liam is 18.

Kyp can't believe he's actually having a student of his own do this exercise. He'd gotten so tired of it when he'd been Luke's student. But here he is, guiding Rey through the same exercises he'd complained about.

"Close your eyes. Feel the Force around you. Lean on it. Trust the Force to keep you from falling."

Rey was all for training, she was willing to give it a shot. However, there were things even the former scavenger wouldn't do. Like trusting the Force to not let her fall. That was crazy and stupid. She gave him a confused, concerned stare.

"You sure about this?" She asked, not wanting to go through with it if she could help it.

"Completely." It doesn't take the Force to tell she's trying to get out of this. "You aren't trying to tell me you think the Force can let your inside other people's minds and move things without touching them but it can't keep you upright?"

No, not trying to get out of this. Just very unsure because people didn't hover. Ships could hover, ships could fly. People didn't levitate off the ground.

Rey rolled her eyes a little. So he heard about that, well that's great.

"I'm telling you, I don't know if I can do this. How am I supposed to lean on the Force if I'm meditating? Or are you expecting me to balance on something or are you going to throw me off a ledge?"

He laughs. He can't help it.

"No, I won't throw you off a ledge yet. That's for when you become a knight. But, yes, I expect you to balance on your hand."

[If there's one thing Balthazar Blake has learned in the 1400-plus years of life he never asked for but got anyway, it's that there is always, always some kind of apocalypse pending. His area of expertise has been in averting the actions of wicked sorcerers in the fine old tradition of Morgan le Fay, but he's seen other disasters loom, threaten the world with annihilation, and be averted at the eleventh hour.

So, after a chance meeting with the Winchester brothers--a comedy of errors in which they mistook him for a murderous warlock and he in turn assumed they were psychopaths until they all sat down and hashed it out--he's not entirely surprised to hear their saga of monsters, angels, and demonic blood. In fact, he turns out to be one of a handful of non-hunters who seem to harbor some kind of sympathy.

Dean doesn't have much use for the sorcerer in the long run, but Balthazar seems to have more of an abiding interest in Sam anyway, and before they part ways, he asks him:] Does it really matter where your power comes from? Call it tainted blood, manifest destiny, shitty luck, or all the above...it's part of you. You'd be wise to learn to control it. Better than it controlling you.

[Maybe, weeks or months or years down the road, Sam will think about that advice and come back for more.]

[It had taken years, but finally Sam remembered what he'd said. Hours had been spent weighing the pros and cons of the offer before he'd finally pulled his phone out. He still had a number for the man, though he wasn't sure it would still be in service. Regardless he went ahead and tapped out a quick text, hoping he would get lucky.]

Hey, its Sam Winchester. If the offer still stands...I'd like you to teach me how to control this.

[What could it hurt? Sure Dean hadn't exactly been happy about the idea, but then again they both agreed it would probably be for the best. Especially if he could learn to use the powers without demon blood. The other 'Special Children' of Azazel's had. Surely he could too?]
