Blunt little instrument
![]() You don't have delusions of grandeur. You've never been more than a pawn, a tool to be used by others. A hammer to wield, worth only the power to destroy and not much else. That was the reality you knew, at least, until this person looked at you and you alone. Not your usefulness, only you. They were the first to treat you like you weren't below everyone, like you belong - maybe by their side? Maybe that's a place where it's worth fighting to stay.

just in case it's not clear, Nat's masked up to look like Peggy for the final battle
She'd told him to put his weapons down, let her finish ruining what Hydra was building, told the soldier to do the same. Already bleeding, already bruised and tired for the fight her the man with the wings, he'd slipped, and the helicarrier shuddered beneath him, and he'd fallen, fallen, fallen, reaching out for the hand of the Soldier, fingers slipping free.
He is lost before the water swallows him.
He wakes up with a gasp, and he's lost where he is, where he's been brought to. For a moment, the face of the woman hovers above him, brown haired with neat curls and lipstick that doesn't smudge, and then she's gone, and it's just the space he doesn't know, and his own desperate breathing.
/thumbs up
"You're awake." Talking isn't something he does often. After everything that's happened though, he feels it's time to tap into his voice. "Can you move? We need to get out of the area."
Because he'd already did his best to drag them and their water-logged selves beneath the tree cover.
Re: /thumbs up
He lifts himself onto his elbows, and then into a sitting position, mirroring the pose of the Soldier.
"We can not go back."
Was there a back to go to, when he could see see the smoke across the river? The woman had said they'd been made to forget, forget things together.
