[Later, once Cloud is feeling better and not on the verge of dying because of poison, he's going to thank Zack for all that small talk; all that chatter. It helped him to keep focus on the real world and not give it to sleep and honestly? He probably would have died pretty quickly if Zack hadn't been so adamant about keeping him engaged.
Right now, though, he's very grateful to not be in a moving vehicle. Getting have drug along and up stairs to boot isn't pleasant but it's better than pot holes and swerving and--
Cloud chokes on the bile rising in his throat, though there's a distinct coppery taste to it as well. That's not good. That's not good at all. He can't outright express how bad it is but the shop keeper only has to take one look at the blonde to realize just how desperate the situation is. (He had almost been prepared to throw them out because of how crazed Zack looked in his worry.) The shop keeper tells Zack to follow him and aids the SOLDIER in getting Cloud into one of the back rooms. A makeshift bed is made on the floor for the blonde to rest on while the shopkeep goes to find the proper antidote, returning a few minutes after disappearing with a small bottle of the stuff.
Drinking it down is one of the worst things Cloud has ever experienced and he wants to spill the contents of his stomach even more once the bottle is empty. He coughs, almost choking, thanks to the combination of flavors in his mouth but he feels it starting to take effect. He feels the way the heat starts to cool down, the way his body slowly starts to stop aching. The trembling goes away little by little and by the time the antidote has taken it's full course, his eyes are open and he's staring up the ceiling with a clear but very tired look.]
[ There was a moment before the shop keeper acted- just a moment where Zack thought they were screwed, that he went to the wrong town, that there was not going to be an antidote and Cloud was gonna-
But then the moment was over and dismissed as soon as he had been waved further in. By the time his friend had settled on the bed, the numbness that had begun to wash over him receded and he was left to hover over him with a hand stroking sweat-soaked hair out of his face while the shopkeep found what they needed.
As soon as they returned, he had wasted no time in helping Cloud to down that, murmuring something between encouragement and apology, knowing how much he was likely fighting to keep it down at that point. But as he watches now, he can see color returning to him slightly where he was so pale, tension falling away where he was taunt as a drawn bow before. When Cloud finally opens his eyes, the ceiling's not the only thing in sight. Because there's Zack right above. At some point, he had apparently pulled him up to lean against his body- likely to prevent him from choking on said antidote. Now, he's stroking his hair in comfort between pauses to check his temperature with the back of his hand. He watches Cloud with deep concern up until he sees that lucid look to his eyes and hears that grunted complaint.
Only then does the tension fall slightly from his brow, even as he continues to comb fingers through blonde strands. A ghost of a smile touches his lips. ]
Heh- they're not exactly in my good books either. [ He can't say he hates all of them. That's a flat lie. He's known a good Turk or two. Hell, once upon a time, he'd even entrusted Tseng to take care of Aerith. The only one he could trust. But just as well, a lot can change in seven years. Lots of new blood who knows him only by the book. He's definitely not too keen on the ones who followed them today.
But he's not worrying about them right now. No, right then... He hesitates before gently touching chin to the top of Cloud's head, pulling him a little closer. ] You should get some rest now..
[There's something very comforting about the fact that Zack is right there, in his sight and right behind him as Cloud reclines against him. It helps any of the lingering tension that had been keeping the blonde's shoulders tense and his stomach twisted ease. Not that he had ever thought Zack was going to leave him behind in any way but his mind had been a little addled and he'd been thinking a lot of things that probably weren't true.
But Zack was there and a soft sigh escaped Cloud as his eyes close at the touch of his friend's hand in his hair.]
True. [He knows that Zack has had some good relations with Turks and hell, even Cloud himself has in..odd ways. Because while he has been on the run from them a lot he does owe some of them for their help. In general, though, the Turks are just obnoxious.
The weight of Zack's chin on his head has Cloud's eyes cracking open slightly, the blonde shifting in his friend's embrace to settle a bit more comfortably against his chest. The body heat seeping off Zack was a welcome comfort now that he was actually feeling things properly and while he normally would have protested sleep..it was very tempting now.]
..We should keep moving, though. [Lingering could be problematic if the Turks were already attempting to track them down.] I can sleep in the truck? [Though it doesn't sound like he really wants to. He's pretty content like this, thank you very much.]
[ There's a comfort in the way Cloud moves around, in the way he resettles himself comfortably rather than just slumping against him before. Before, he had been shaking and out of control of his body, but now? Well, it seems like he's doing pretty good. Whatever that shopkeep gave him, it must have been some pretty strong stuff. Zack's betting anything he'll be paying up with the rest of his gil, but if that's what it took to save Cloud's life, it was more than well worth it.
It's a thought that's dashed quickly though as he listens to Cloud's input on the matter. And... really, he knows they ought to get moving. That they were likely spotted on their way out, even if the Turks weren't necessarily able to follow them. Sure, the truck had a canopy and all, but there's not many people that leave the city at that early hour, so they probably stuck out like a sore thumb. Zack... sighs to himself. ] I'm not too crazy about the idea, but... I guess we don't have much of a choice, huh.
[ He would rather stay the night and make sure he's stable for certain. That's what he'd typically do. But they can't risk it. Not with the Turks on high alert at this point. But rather than move immediately away, he reaches back to tuck out a potion from his belt. Popping the top, he offers it out for Cloud to take as he removes his other from his friend's hair, touching it to his forehead one last time. Double checking. ]
You're gonna have to take it easy. Malboro poison's nothing to joke about, and antidotes don't erase whatever damage the poison's already done to your body.
[It has a lot to do with Cloud just being far too stubborn to actually take the time to let himself heal properly. Just been poisoned? He's totally fine to move around. Just been stabbed? He can keep moving. It's all good. Nothing bad could come out of this.]
Not really. [And they won't have a lot of choices for awhile. Not until they're in the middle of nowhere and as off the radar as they can possibly get. Until then, they just have to keep pushing forward.
Injuries or not.
Cloud frowns slightly as there's suddenly a potion in front of him and his hand lifts after a moment to take it. The idea of downing something else is not really something he's fond of but he knows it's for the best. So without further ado he downs it, eyes closed with a bit of a wince at the weird combination of flavors in his mouth right now.]
I know. It's going to take awhile before I'm 100%. [But he's going to be stubborn about it, Zack. Be prepared for that.] I'll be alright though, Zack. I promise. [That last bit is said in a softer tone than what he had been speaking in, the blonde pressing back into his friend's embrace a bit more again. A gentle reassurance that he was okay and would get through this. It was just a minor setback but hey, it wasn't the worst thing either of them had ever experienced.]
[ Minor setback, huh? You borrowing his excuses now, Spike?
..Yeah, he really can't give him shit for this though in the end. He knows he's just as stubborn. ..Doesn't mean he's not going to keep a good eye out for him though. At least the fact that he takes that potion's promising. It means the nausea's definitely gone away. His motor skills still leave a bit to be desired, but he's still better coordinated than Zack thought, able to both hold the bottle and bring it up to his mouth.
Zack takes that bottle once he's done with it, storing it back on his belt, figuring he'll refill it later. He only pauses in the midst of movement at that promise... but in the end, that just earns Cloud a soft hum while Zack seems to get lost in his own train of thought. It's only broken by the way he feels the weight of his friend shift more onto him and he takes that moment- just a brief moment wrap both arms around him carefully. Letting him know he's there, too. That they'll both get through this...
[How long as he known you? You were bound to influence him at some point, Zack.
Just wait until he tries to walk. That's when the real damage is going to make itself apparent because his legs aren't going to want to cooperate.
He's content to just stay where he is, though, the comfortable weight of Zack's arms around him luring him closer to the sleep state he had objected to initially. They need to get moving, they need to get back on the road but he just can't find the desire to actually want to move from this spot right now. There's something soothing about the soft thrum of Zack's heartbeat that he can just sort of hear over the faint ringing still in his own ears. Something that helps him ground himself in the present.
They were both okay.
The moment is, unfortunately, broken as the shopkeep comes back to check on them, clearing their throat from the door way before asking if they had plans to stay. There was an inn a few buildings down, after all. Cloud shifts slightly, glancing over at the man then up slightly in an attempt to look at Zack. That..was most likely their cue to get moving, huh?]
And he'll be seeing that soon enough. Maybe not right then though. Spike, you're getting a ride for now.
At least when they get to that point. Cloud's not the only one who's feeling cozy as they are. It's one thing to make a plan. It's another to follow through with it, especially when he can feel the rise and fall of his friend's chest easing into something more gradual. Something deeper.
-and then the shopkeep busts in like the Koolaid Man.
So much for calm and peaceful. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but he can still take a hint. He makes small talk with them, thanking them for letting him know about the inn and then almost abruptly releasing his arms from around Cloud, helping him to lay down as he moves to stand. ] I'll be right back, Spike.
[ It's the only warning Cloud gets before he leaves the room with the shopkeep to discuss a few more things. When he returns though, he wastes no time in bending down to help Spike sit up again. This time, he's giving his back a check over. ] I should probably wrap this before we head out. It's gonna get infected otherwise. [ Apparently, it's deeper than he first thought or that potion would have done the trick.
...Cloud might also notice the dried blood on the side of his friend's arm by this point. ]
[The loss of Zack's arms around him almost pulled a noise of protest out of Cloud. Almost. He managed to hold it in and only winced a little bit as he was helped to lay back down. It was a lot colder all of a sudden without the warmth of Zack against his back and his eyes followed the other's movements as he stood.
A nod was all that the other would get from Cloud, the blonde staying silent otherwise as he watched Zack leave then let out a quiet sigh. Having moved around now more than just lifting his arms and the like, his body ached though it was nowhere near as bad as it had been before. It was just uncomfortable, more than anything, and his lower back especially was still almost burning in a way. A dull throb of pain that wasn't going to go away anytime soon considering that had, essentially, been ground zero.
He's actually almost asleep when Zack returns and the room momentarily spins as he's helped upright again. This time there's an audible hiss from the blonde as his back aches and Cloud tries to find a comfortable way to settle to give Zack the best view of it.]
It's probably going to anyway. [Unfortunately.] Is everything alright with the owner? [There's the slightest drawl to his words but it's mostly from exhaustion at this point. But he's not tired enough to miss that dried blood and he frowns faintly, hesitating a moment before he manages to lift a hand to touch the spot.]
[ He can't hide the way he winces when he hears that hiss. He hates making Cloud feel worse than he already does, but he has to move him if he's going to be able to reach and do anything about that wound. Despite his friend's personal diagnosis, Zack shakes his head stubbornly. Not if he cleans it well enough. That might be why there's a bowl and cloth not far from him. Some bandages can be seen tucked under one of his arms, too.
He nods once at the mention of the owner and is about to say more with that, but then he sees that frown... feels the touch of those fingertips against his bare skin. A sigh of his own escapes him before he shakes his head. ] I got clipped once. It's nothing. Now, hold still.
[ Yep, totally brushing that off and instead going pull Cloud over to lean his side up against him before untucking that top again. He peels it up enough so that it'll stay in place before he gingerly gets to work, removing the old and now heavily bloodied gauze to start the cleaning process again. This time, he's much gentler. Much more careful. ] It's looking better.
[ Give or take, that's not really a hard thing to do considering how gruesome it had appeared when the poison was still running its course yet. ]
[Cloud was honestly expecting the wound to not heal properly for a few days at the very least. That burn alone was a good indication that it was pretty bad and given the fact that there had been poison involved as well? He knew Zack was going to do everything he could but...well. They'd see how it went.
The blonde doesn't protest to being moved around but he is going to protest to that dismissal.]
It's not nothing. Have you cleaned it? [Because if you're going to fret over him, Zack, he's going to fret over you.
He is momentarily distracted, as much as he tries not to be, by how uncomfortable his shirt being moved around is. The wound gives another throb as the fabric peels away from some spots and he ducks his head to try and hide his expression.] It doesn't feel much better.
[Which is a lie, but hey, it hurts. And even the strongest of fighters have to whine sometimes.]
Because I haven't finished yet, speaking of cleaning. Now, quit moving. [ Totally ignoring his question? Totally ignoring his question.
It doesn't stop him from taking a moment to give him a soft, reassuring rub between the shoulder blades, but it's short and sweet and then he's back to work. He can't really afford to waste too much time knowing that they still have Turks on their tail.
By the end of the clean up job, the contents of the bowl have now turned a sickly red and he grimaces at that. Doesn't stop him from breaking out the bandages though and starting to carefully make rounds around his chest. ] Tell me if it's too tight, okay?
Zack. [You hear that tone? That's one of someone that isn't going to take your shit, injured or not.
But that gentle rub has him deflating a bit and a soft sigh escapes him as Zack get's started. He does his best not to tense up but it's easier said than done. Cloud has to fight the urge to flinch at every wipe against the wound and his hands end up clenching in the fabric of his pants. It stings more than he'd like to admit but Zack is trying to be careful so he doesn't want to make the other feel bad.
Relief floods him when the other is finally done cleaning and he gives the slightest nod when Zack speaks up again.]
I will. [The sooner they got it over with the better.]
[ He hears that tone, alright. Cloud's not gonna let it go, is he.
Even if he at least cedes to that cleaning for now without further interruption. He still feels bad when he can see his friend hanging on far too tight. He knows it hurts. He's not oblivious. But Zack also knows it has to be done.
At least the wrapping's not as harsh in contrast. With Cloud's approval, he continues on with his work, making sure to cover all of that wound and then some. Two or three wraps aren't going to cut it, so he goes for a few more in the end. But eventually, he finishes up that work, too. His fingers lightly trace over his work before he sighs and pulls him back gently against his chest.
Rather than settling in like that again though, he instead reaches for the one last tool he brought along with him: a pair of fairly solid tweezers. Holding his wounded arm out, he takes them into his other hand now and puts them to work digging out the bullet still lodged in his skin. It bounces off the blanket before falling to the wood floor with a clatter and he sucks in a breath. ] Happy?
He has to admit, it does feel a lot better now that it's been properly cleaned and wrapped up again. The throb is still there but it's nowhere near as sharp as it was and the burn has faded some as well. It makes it that much easier to relax, especially when he's being tugged backwards again. There's a slight jolt of pain from the movement itself but it fades quick enough, allowing Cloud to relax--
And pay attention to what Zack is doing.
Despite how tired he is he watches with a critical look in his eyes as the other works on getting his wound taken care of. Cloud honestly wishes he could do something to help but his arms feel a bit like lead right now and he probably wouldn't had the steadiest hand for something like that. His companion manages, though, and the blonde huffs softly when the bullet ends up on the floor.]
Yes. [Cloud shifts slightly to glance up at Zack, studying his face.] ...Any others? [Don't hide it from him, puppy dog.]
[ He's not surprised when Cloud's attention shifts like that, not with how worried he'd sounded. But at least this time, Zack can look him in the eye and nod solidly. ] That's it. The new guys don't really hold a candle to the Turks I used to know.
[ He tilts his head with a slight smile at that, but it's brief at most before he's back to concentrating on actually wrapping the thing. He'll worry about more proper maintenance later. They're not out of the woods yet and he's already spent more time there than they probably ought to have. After making sure the bandages on secure enough... and then giving another quick, passing assessment at Cloud's, Zack starts up again to his feet, being sure to help his friend stay upright until he's got both feet planted on the floor.
Then, without much warning, he's coiling his arms underneath knees and what part of Cloud's back he can touch without aggravating it. ] Alright, Spike. Time to- go. [ He lifts him up suddenly in emphasis, keeping him held closely to his chest in an attempt to help stave off some of the stress to that wound. ]
They aren't as unpredictable. [Which was probably a good thing. Sure they had been caught off guard by this new batch but, had it been any of the older Turks, they would have been captured. Most likely.
He's pleased to see Zack make the effort to wrap his own wound as well, not bothering to press about the presence of other wounds--for now. He'd worry about that later, when they were on the road again maybe. For now he just let's himself be moved about once he's passed yet another check over by his companion, managing to get his legs underneath himself once he's upright. They don't feel right, even just standing there like that Cloud can tell that much, but he doesn't have time to process just how bad it is--
Because Zack is taking it upon himself to pick him up. The blonde let's out a surprised sound as he's suddenly in the other's arms, looking a bit miffed for a moment before he gives the other a exasperated and tired look.] I could walk. [Actually he's not really sure about that and given the way his back is protesting this position a bit he doubts it would have felt much better if he was walking. But he hates being the weak link.]
[ He's pretty sure if they had been like the Turks he's known, the two of 'em would have died up on those rooftops. As it stands though, they're alive and he's going to keep it that way.
Even if that means getting an indignant protest from Cloud as he decides to carry him like that. The comment just earns a shake of Zack's head though. He doesn't smile- he knows how much his friend doesn't like feeling helpless -but he does comment: ] I know you could, but we really gotta book it. If we're fast enough, the owner won't see us leave.
[ Guess who lied and said they were staying at the inn. Maybe it won't matter much in the end, but it was worth a shot if they couldn't see the truck too well in the dark. Maybe the Turks would think they'd abandoned it at some point, too. Hard to say.
But Zack's not letting anymore argument happen as he starts out of that backroom. He thanks the shopkeep with a nod and a smile as he passes by the counter and the shopkeep actually smiles in turn. Surprise, surprise. Then, they're out of there and Zack's quickly if not cautiously descending those stairs and beelining towards the truck at a trot.
Opening the door without just one thing might be proving to be difficult though. ] Hey, Spike. Could you grab the keys outta my pocket?
[Zack didn't have to outright say it for Cloud to put two and two together. He as setting a fake trail for the Turks should they come after them and it was understandable. Cloud appreciated the forethought because as he was right now, he probably wouldn't have thought to do something like that. Way to go, Zack! You had a bright idea for once~
Cloud stays quiet after that, head resting against Zack's shoulder as he's carried out of the back room. His gaze flickers to the shopkeep briefly but he doesn't do more then nod slightly in the other's direction. He was grateful for the help they'd been given and the owner hadn't outright called the authorities so that was a plus.
His eyes are closed as they start their trek towards the truck, though the blonde is quick to look up at his companion again at the request.
Keys. Right.
A slight nod and he's shifting as best he can to get one of his arms into a usable position, fingers slipping into Zack's pocket to fish the keys out. It's awkward and not easy but he does it with some only minor twisting his body towards Zack's chest, readjusting himself in the other's arms before holding the keys up.]
Where are we headed from here? [Let's just not talk about that awkward squirm he'd had to do in order to get the keys, alright?]
[ He won't talk about it if you won't, Spike. But with the keys successfully collected, he takes them and just as awkwardly fidgets around until he manages to unlock the door. It's only after he yanks the door open without managing to whack his friend in the head in the process that he grunts out: ] The mountains in the south. We outta be able to lose 'em there. Once we get through there, we'll head to Junon.
[ Sure, Junon's probably crawling with people, but their choices in port towns are kind of rare and they'll need to hit one if they're going to get over to the western continent. Means losing the truck now that he thinks about things more clearly, but. Well. They'll figure things out.
With better care than previously, Zack helps his friend into the passenger seat. There's a grimace at the dried blood on the back of the seat, but there's not much he can do about it. Once he's settled and buckled in, Zack pauses if just for a moment to run a hand through his hair. But it's brief before he's stepping back and shutting the door.
Then, he's slipping over to the other side to hop in and start the truck. It complains and squeals a few times. But it does start again after another try. With a nod Cloud's way and an arm hanging over the back of his friend's seat, Zack peels out of town. ]
...Ditching the truck then? [Not that he cares all that much. They have to do what they have to do. It just means they'll have to find something else later--though it's probably better that way. The more they can do to throw the turks off, the better.
Also, thank you for not giving him a concussion to go along with everything else, Zack. It's appreciated.
A slight wince crosses his face as he's settled on the seat but it's no hiss of pain and it takes him only a minute to get himself situated. It's easier this time, with his back actually probably wrapped and cleaned, and he reclines back against the seat without too much issue. His eyes are just starting to close when he suddenly feels a hand in his hair, looking at Zack with a questioning look in his eyes and something else--something soft that Cloud doesn't have a word for. The moment is broken, as most of them are with them, and soon enough Zack's sliding into the driver's seat and they're on their way.
It doesn't take long for Cloud to fall asleep after that, the soft hum of the engine and Zack's presence beside him luring him into a comfortable rest. For once he doesn't dream, his mind peacefully blank for now as he allows his body the chance to recuperate. At some point his head ends up resting back against Zack's arm where it lays across the back of the seat, turned slightly to the side as he dozes. He'll stay that way until Zack wakes him up or until they reach their destination, far too exhausted to stay awake.
[ It's okay, Cloud. You're doing exactly what he wanted you to do- though feeling his head lull like it does against his arm's a nice touch in more ways than one. He can feel his even breath and his much cooler cheek.. but there's also something else to the mix. Something that he turns over in his head during the rest of the drive.
The drive, itself's, not bad. Not even close to as bad as it could have been. He must have created a lot more distance from the Turks than he first thought which was good- and he was going to try and keep it that way. It's only when they have to ditch the truck that things start to get rough, but Zack's stubborn as hell. He makes a quick routine of things and does his best to stick with it. This includes stopping to change Cloud's bandages and clean him up as necessary.
No matter what protests may come, he's diligent about it, stubborn to show Cloud he won't allow infection to be a thing in the first place. He sleeps curled up close next to him, sharing body heat in the cold, dank caverns. And when they travel, he keeps it to a pace where Cloud can keep up without straining. He needs to heal.
When they finally can see the sun again, it feels like the wind goes straight to Zack's sails. Instantly, his spirit's lifted more than it's been the past however many days to traverse the caverns. He manages to hitchhike them a ride partway to Junon and the rest of the journey's not so bad. Not even half as bad really with mostly clear skies and Cloud looking better and better by every passing day.
The city appearing on the horizon line only further kicks up that mood though there's also an unease churning quietly in the pit of his stomach, too, an unease that gradually grows the closer they get until suddenly it's nightfall. It's nightfall and his boots scuff slightly as he makes his landing on the other side of the wall, rolling into the first shadow he sees. Zack glimpses around carefully before looking back up from where he came. Come on, Spike... Quick before the night guards show up. ]
[There had been plenty of protests from Cloud, so many attempts at getting Zack to stop worrying so much; they needed to keep moving. But the other man hadn't given in and eventually Cloud had just accepted his fate. His protests stopped and he allowed the other to care for him, the blonde more thankful than he knew how to put into words because with each passing day he was feeling better and better. The threat of an infection was definitely gone, now, despite what he had thought would happen and he knew he had Zack's diligence to thank for that.
Stubborn mutt.
It's that lift in Zack's spirits when they're finally able to see sunlight again that has Cloud perking up finally as well. His back barely hurts at all anymore and while he's definitely still recovering from the effects of the poison as a whole, he feels more like himself than he has in quite some time. There's even a few times that he actually manages a real life at something Zack's said, unable to help himself most of the time.
And then the unease started to creep back in. For both of them. The closer they got to the city the more Cloud found himself starting to slip back into his somewhat stoic ways, more tense than he should be given the fact that nothing had happened yet. He just couldn't help but feel like it would.
He waits for Zack to go over the wall before he's following, a little extra effort having to put forth because when was the last time he had to climb something like this but he does it. His feet hit the ground then he's ducking into the same shadows Zack's in, crouched down behind the other before he gives him a nod.]
[ He can't help the quiet sigh of relief when Cloud manages to clear the wall, too. He's been doing a lot better, sure, but Zack still hadn't been entirely sure he was up to the task. That answers that though and he can't hide the wide, adventurous grin and a thumbs up for that effort. Bright as that moment is, it's brief, too. He knows what his focus ought to be on and he shifts gears quickly after. ]
Remember, we got about ten minutes tops before that last barge leaves. We're gonna have to really move it. With me. [ The last part's said as his only warning before he starts off along the shadow, hugging the row of buildings as well as he can. They're in an alleyway from the look of things which is a blessing in it of itself. But he knows the closer they get, the harder it's going to be for them to hide. Especially when he makes a turn and the first thing he sees is a well lit street down the way... and no other alleys to turn into already.
[He's getting there, don't worry, Zack. And they're never going to know if he can do this sort of stuff if he doesn't try it.]
Got it. [Cloud is quick to follow as the other starts moving, sticking as close to the wall as he can with an arm back to keep his sword from hitting anything. He makes the turn just a couple seconds after Zack and has to fight the urge to curse under his breath, glancing at his companion before starting forward.
He moves along the wall still but it's a casual stride, hands going into his pockets as he makes his way down the street. They can't hide so they're going to have to just work with what they've got and bolting down the street would just gain them unwanted attention.

Right now, though, he's very grateful to not be in a moving vehicle. Getting have drug along and up stairs to boot isn't pleasant but it's better than pot holes and swerving and--

The shop keeper tells Zack to follow him and aids the SOLDIER in getting Cloud into one of the back rooms. The trembling goes away little by little and by the time the antidote has taken it's full course, his eyes are open and he's staring up the ceiling with a clear but very tired look.]
...I hate Turks.

] You should get some rest now..
no subject
He's pretty content like this, thank you very much.]
no subject
Malboro poison's nothing to joke about, and antidotes don't erase whatever damage the poison's already done to your body.
no subject
It was just a minor setback but hey, it wasn't the worst thing either of them had ever experienced.]
no subject
..Yeah, he really can't give him shit for this though in the end.
He won't let it go any other way.
Just one more minute like this... ]
no subject
That..was most likely their cue to get moving, huh?]
no subject
And he'll be seeing that soon enough. Maybe not right then though. Spike, you're getting a ride for now.
At least when they get to that point. Cloud's not the only one who's feeling cozy as they are. It's one thing to make a plan. It's another to follow through with it, especially when he can feel the rise and fall of his friend's chest easing into something more gradual. Something deeper.
-and then the shopkeep busts in
like the Koolaid Man.So much for calm and peaceful.
no subject
Zack?
no subject
no subject
The blonde doesn't protest to being moved around but he is going to protest to that dismissal.]
It's not nothing. Have you cleaned it? [Because if you're going to fret over him, Zack, he's going to fret over you.
He is momentarily distracted, as much as he tries not to be, by how uncomfortable his shirt being moved around is. The wound gives another throb as the fabric peels away from some spots and he ducks his head to try and hide his expression.] It doesn't feel much better.
[Which is a lie, but hey, it hurts. And even the strongest of fighters have to whine sometimes.]
no subject
It doesn't stop him from taking a moment to give him a soft, reassuring rub between the shoulder blades, but it's short and sweet and then he's back to work. He can't really afford to waste too much time knowing that they still have Turks on their tail.
By the end of the clean up job, the contents of the bowl have now turned a sickly red and he grimaces at that. Doesn't stop him from breaking out the bandages though and starting to carefully make rounds around his chest. ] Tell me if it's too tight, okay?
no subject
But that gentle rub has him deflating a bit and a soft sigh escapes him as Zack get's started. He does his best not to tense up but it's easier said than done. Cloud has to fight the urge to flinch at every wipe against the wound and his hands end up clenching in the fabric of his pants. It stings more than he'd like to admit but Zack is trying to be careful so he doesn't want to make the other feel bad.
Relief floods him when the other is finally done cleaning and he gives the slightest nod when Zack speaks up again.]
I will. [The sooner they got it over with the better.]
no subject
] Happy?
no subject
[Don't hide it from him, puppy dog.]
no subject
no subject
But he hates being the weak link.]
no subject
Could you grab the keys outta my pocket?
no subject
[Let's just not talk about that awkward squirm he'd had to do in order to get the keys, alright?]
no subject
no subject
Sorry, Zack.]
no subject
no subject

Well, that's great. ]
no subject
Come along, Zack~]
