There’s no real push to your actions; you do them as if they were second nature. Perhaps, initially, you were assigned this role, as protector and guardian of this person. Maybe you took it on because there was no one else. A natural guardian or not, good or evil, you caught a shining to them and felt…something. Something hard to explain, but you want to keep them safe and happy - or at the very least, content. No one is as dedicated to them as you. You want them to reach their goals; to help them achieve them, you'll do what you must, even if it means being their gofer or their right hand.

But most of all, you don't want them to end up like you. They're worth more than that.

Yet somehow, along the line, you became more to them, more than just their protector. You protect them anew and you've found a different way to make them happy. It's selfish, too, because you love them in your way and you want them more than anything. You may feel guilty, of course. They don't, though, and that's what matters.

Comment with your character, preferences, and what you'd prefer to play: protector or protected.
Remember, you don't have to be so rigid. A traditionally weak character can "protect" a traditionally strong one in emotional ways.

SW AU Version

After so long on the run, Alec was used to the Empire's agents hunting him. He knew how to hide, how to seem normal even when the Imps were trying to force him to show his gifts. What he wasn't used to was Jace Wayland doing something stupid for a business deal and ending up with a bunch of thugs chasing after them.

At least they'd managed to grab whatever it was that would keep them in credits for the next few months before they'd had to run. Not that the credits would matter if they didn't get away. Unfortunately, this group of lackeys were better shots than the ones they usually dealt with.

Ducking behind a cargo crate, Alec hissed softy as one of the blaster bolts burned through his jacket and shirt. He could have dulled the pain but he didn't want to risk using the Force unless he had to. Until he saw Jace cornered by a thug advancing with a vibroblade.

Then things got a little...complicated.

It wasn't until they were off planet, going through a convoluted mess of hyperspace jumps that he realized what he'd did... and that he had a blaster burn throbbing along his arm. He'd used the Force and gotten hurt in the fight. Jace was going to kill him...

"What in all the hells were you thinking?" Jace wasn't going to kill Alec. But he was definitely pissed. Tossing the box of medical supplies down and digging through it. He was slightly red in the face with emotion, but it wasn't just anger.

Alec had gotten hurt because of one of his crazy ideas and he exposed himself to whoever may have actually been paying attention to save his ass.

"Sit up so I can take off your jacket."

"You know what I was thinking." It didn't need to be said. At least Alec hoped it didn't because it was more than just friendship that had caused him to reach for the Force to protect Jace. They were stuck together on the ship for days. They didn't need things to be awkward because Alec had more than just the expected feelings for the smuggler who had taken him in like a stray kitten.

Sighing, he sat up and began to peel off the battered leather. This time he'd probably have to buy a new one. The thought was almost as depressing as having to try to deal with Jace's anger. "It's not that bad. I'll heal." He knew better than to mention using the Force when that was why Jace was ready to yell at him.

"Jace pushed Alec's hands away and took over removing his jacket for him, being careful and tender despite how angry he was. "It's bad enough!" The jacket was set aside and rather than making Alec move around too much taking off his shirt he just grabbed the material and started ripping it open.

"This will heal, but if something worse had happened to you...if anyone saw you, Alec!"

Alec's wound would heal, but Jace's wouldn't. Not if he lost Alec after everything they had been through together. He just didn't know how to put it into words what Alec meant to him.

Sighing, he let Jace take off the jacket, knowing that if he tried to help, his friend would become even more frustrated. Alec knew that he'd done something that Jace thought he shouldn't have but he hadn't been able to stand by and let Jace be hurt. "I used to hurt myself worse during lightsaber practice."

Probably not the best thing to say since the whole Jedi issue was the cause of all this. "You know what I am, Jace. I can't just turn that part of myself off." Just like he couldn't turn off his feelings for his friend.

Wincing when he saw what Jace had done to his shirt, Alec picked at one of the frayed pieces of fabric. "The blaster burn happened before I used the Force. If someone saw me, I'll deal with it just like I always do."
