[ It's been a lot of refusals, even once she stopped thinking of Soleil as some kind of predator, but Ophelia finally agreed to meet up for tea somewhere. They've been through a lot together, including battle, but somehow this still feels completely different. Maybe because she'd said no so many times before.
They agreed on a spot beforehand (Soleil knows all the good places, suspiciously) and went their separate ways, but Ophelia spent most of that time trying to ask her father for some kind of advice. He didn't have much to say outside of explaining that no matter what happens, she would come out on top because she's a chosen one. As if she didn't figure that by now! Then again, her father and Soileil's father had an exasperating, complex friendship so maybe asking him was a bad idea anyway.
She tries her best to be on time, and Soleil is easy enough to spot (as if Ophelia wouldn't be). Instead of waving, she greets her with a flourish. ] Celestial blessings, Soleil! I am ready for our tea adventure.
[ After a while, Soleil's hopes of actually getting a date with Ophelia had been gradually worn down. But being eternally hopeful and not having anything to lose, she kept at it and when Ophelia finally accepted, Soleil felt like she was walking on air.
Then they went their separate ways. And Soleil felt a very alien feeling: nervousness. She had gone on countless dates with dozens upon dozens of beautiful women, so she couldn't fathom why she was nervous. She asked her father for advice, and...that went about as well as she expected. His advice was the usual (smile, do your best, and so on) but Soleil got the impression he knew something he was not telling her.
Even when she gets to the spot to meet up, she is still mulling over it. She is so deep in thought that she doesn't so much as glance at any of the girls that walk by her. And she is so deep in thought that she hears Ophelia before she sees her. ]
--Ah!
[ Ophelia's dramatic greeting breaks Soleil out of her uncharacteristically deep thinking and she jumps. She recovers quickly enough, managing to hide her surprise and nervousness with a big smile. ]
[ If Ophelia notices the jump, she doesn't comment on it. Although she does wonder if there's something wrong with her appearance or if maybe Soleil was not expecting her to actually show up. Nothing to do about it now though!
When she stands straight, she offers her friend a smile. It pleases her to be complicated, although she isn't entirely sure how to react to Soleil's comments in particular. This one is pretty tame though, and she really doesn't think she looks any different than normal! ]
Oh, thank you! You are looking very cute today as well?
[ She feels a little awkward saying it, because what is giving compliments and not in some dramatic speech, but it feels necessary. Then she takes Soleil's arm. Part of that is simply because it almost looks like Soleil needs a reassuring touch. Or perhaps some balance. Ophelia isn't sure she's ever seen her fumble around like that before. ]
[ The compliment (even if in the form of a question) gives Soleil a rush of adrenaline that helps her push back the jitters. Her face flushes and she gives Ophelia a much more comfortable smile. ]
Eee! You think I'm cute today? Yaaay!
[ And Ophelia took her arm! Things are progressing well. This isn't the first time she has taken a girl to tea, so no need to worry, right? She just has to make it to the tea shop without fainting and the rest of this afternoon will be perfect.
She will be taking the long route to the tea shop just to maximize the number of people who see her with the cutest girl in Nohr on her arm. ]
I hope you've brought your best stories today. You always need to share stories when sharing tea. It's the best way to get to know each other even better, you know.
They'd spent the first few days (and nights) Edie was staying over just clinging to one another and learning each other through kissed and touches. They'd talked a little about where things were going. Things had been going astonishingly well.
But Edgar has his work to do. Elliot, casual though it is, does have a job. He couldn't stay in Town forever.
But the sun is starting to set and it feels very odd, to be eating dinner alone. To face the prospect of going to bed alone. Texting Edgar comes only after a couple minutes of consideration.
Things have been going wonderfully, in Edgar's opinion.
It helped that they'd been friends for such a long time. It helped that Elliot already understood the ins and outs (at least a bit) of his life as a King and as a father. It helped that they seemed to have found a page they both very much wanted to be on together.
None of that made it particularly wonderful that Elliot lived in the Outskirts and that the Clubs rarely ran themselves without a fully attentive hand of Faces.
He's still at his desk when his phone buzzes. It's probably for the best no one else is there to see the way his entire face lights up when he sees who set it chirruping.
He can't stop grinning. This, after all, is one of the more definitive signs that things are going well.
It takes a moment after the second text before he can stop pressing a hand against his lips to try and keep his cheeks from actually splitting in half.
