The ethereal blonde seems utterly unaware that she's somehow gotten herself a protector. She's just been focused on protecting someone herself. How some slip of a girl with such sylvan features could protect anyone was questionable. She tried hard though, rushing headlong into danger right on the heels of the one she had promised to help.

Sometimes it worked out. Sometimes, she did well, a small powerhouse of something almost magical coming from the girl. Other times, she wasn't so lucky. He valiant knight would lead her into far more trouble than either of them could handle and then leave it to her to clean up his messes while he continued on. In those times she was so overwhelmed, it always seemed that someone helped her. Someone...from the shadows. And then they would be gone before she could thank them.

It didn't happen often, but when it did happen, she was always grateful to whoever it was.

Such as now.

Deedlit's eyes narrow as her back hits the wall. Thieves and punks surround her. She is disgusted by them. These filthy humans who think they can touch her. She'll fight them all by herself if she has to! Only there are far too many, even for her without the use of spells and she dare not call more attention to herself. A real elf would probably fetch quite a price to the right buyers.

Though it hurts her ego greatly, she finds herself calling out for help. She is hoping that her knight will hear her and come back. Or perhaps her shadowed knight will make an appearance instead. Whoever it was, she hoped they hurried. She was growing quickly tired.

He's seen her, followed her. Once or twice...maybe three times.

But only because that's how many there have been.

It rips his guts out every time, for reasons he can't allow himself to think about--but still he watches, still he stands vigil when she walks down the street hand in hand with some untested boy that would probably throw her in front of the line of fire just to save his own worthless neck.

He's watched closely. None of them have hurt her...until the fourth one.

Which is why, on a hot summer night, he's got the both of them in his sights, watching them through the open window of her apartment. He watches them on the couch, watches his hand creep up her leg...watches her remove it three times before finally standing and pointing at the door. He can't hear the voices from his place on the rooftop next door.

He doesn't need to.

Frank's finger goes to the trigger when the guy stands too abruptly and crowds her personal space.

He lines up the shot when the guy grabs her wrist.

The bullet flies neatly through the open window and into the asshole's shoulder before he can do more than that.

Karen doesn’t rush into things. It’s why when her brand new boyfriend asks her on a Netflix-and-chill date she expects nothing more than movies and maybe a little kissing. Something is off about him, though, and when his hand travels up her leg it doesn’t feel comfortable. She pushes it away gently, trying to be polite about her rejection, but of course it doesn’t work. This guy’s pride happens to be a fragile thing and when he’s rejected he takes it to heart.

The look in his eyes changes, becomes something more intimidating and Karen regrets inviting him into her apartment. When he stands she stands, too. It looks like it’s going to turn ugly, but she has no idea how ugly until the guy cries out in pain, holding onto his shoulder.

Karen’s hands cover her mouth in surprise because of all the possible scenarios that had been playing out in her mind, that had not been one of them. She supposes she should be more concerned for the victim in this case, but instead her feet take her to the window and she curiously peers at the rooftops outside. She knows who it has to be. There’s only one person it could be. When her eyes find him her hands fall from her face and she stares.

It’s one of those moments that feels like it drags on forever, but once Karen snaps out of it she realizes it’s only been a couple seconds. She turns around to see that her wounded date is already singlehandedly dialing 911 for himself. There’s an urge bubbling up within herself telling her that she has to see her protector in the flesh.

“I’ve gotta... go.” She mumbles as she staggers out of the apartment, hurrying down the stairs and crossing the trafficless street against the signal. Karen stares up at the rooftop from the sidewalk below, wishing her untouchable hero will come down but not getting her hopes up very high.

By the time she stumbles out of her apartment, he's already fleeing the scene. Weapon slung over his shoulder, shell casing retrieved, he's heading down the fire escape in the alley and he's ready to split.

He's not quite fast enough, though...because just as he emerges onto the sidewalk, she's standing there, staring up like she's waiting for an angel to fall out of the sky.

Not for the first time, he wants to warn her to watch her feet, to dodge the demons crawling out of Hell just for a taste of her...demons like the one that stops and stares, just a few feet away, fighting the urge to go to her and failing.

"You should be callin' up your lawyer buddies, ma'am." he finally advises her gruffly, raising his voice just enough to be heard across the distance.

Of course he would think that she’d be safest with Foggy and Matt. Maybe she would. The truth is, though, she feels the safest when she’s with Frank. It’s a crazy thought considering that she’s closest to danger when she’s with him, but feelings don’t always make a whole lot of sense.

“I want to see you.” She says firmly, so he’ll know she’s in no mood to argue. Of course, he’s just as stubborn as she is. Who knows how that’ll work out?

Karen takes a couple slow steps towards him. She doesn’t want to scare him off, but at the same time she wants to act quickly. She knows that an ambulance will be coming soon, possibly with police. Her wounded date had called on them and the last thing she wants is for Frank Castle to wind up in a jail cell again, even if she kind of thinks he might belong there.

“How long have you been watching me?” It’s asked sounding only mildly accusatory. Actually, Karen is only curious. She wants to form a timeline in her mind. “I deserve to know, Frank.” Her voice is kept low when she says his name.
