THE MAROONED MEME



When you’re stranded. When there’s no way out.

At least this you’re not alone.

WHERE ARE YOU STRANDED?
1: Island. Surrounded by the ocean, shipwrecked on an island. Far away from any civilization.
2: Planet. Is it an uninhabited wasteland? A teeming forest, crammed with alien life forms? Does it have enough oxygen? Storms? Predators?
3: Moon/Asteroid. Low atmosphere, low gravity. You better hope that you have a survival pod where there’s enough air and heat.
4: Adrift. A ship on the ocean; a power-dead space station; a skimmer floating through the levels of a gas giant.
5: Oasis. Not quite marooned in the same sense, but you’re surrounded by empty desert, too far to cross. You might as well be trapped by the water of the oasis.
6: Cave. Again, not quite in the same sense, but something has left you trapped underground. Did you slide down a chasm? Suffer a cave-in? Either way, you’re down here to stay, for the time being.
7: Other.

WHO’S WITH YOU?
1: A friend. You’re in this together.
2: An enemy. Maybe war brought you both here, and war left you stranded behind. Could be that you’re an enemy in a more mundane sense: school rivals, an assassin and her prey.
3: Strangers. You were both on that boat for vacation, and now you have to survive together.
4: A lover. Some honeymoon, huh?
5: Other. For any other variation.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
1: Food and water.
2: Shelter. There’s a storm coming. The nights are cold, here. Or do you just want a sense of security?
3: Communication. How can you get someone to come rescue you?
4: Predators. Something’s trying to kill you…
5: Escape. If you can just fix the ship…
6: Each other. One more hour and you might kill each other.
7: Injury/Disease. One of you needs medical attention. Hopefully the other can muddle through.
8: Other. Any other problem you can think up!

[ooc: Timelines do not match up but pffft details. I figure with Sinjir's interesting history we have a couple of ways of going about this. If he's till loyal to the cause then mission gone awry or if it's post defection then that opens up a whole realm of possibilities. 'Begrudging cooperation or otherwise we both die' comes to mind but the sky is the limit. Would you be interested in throwing out the timeline and doing something?]

As far as playing with timelines go: I can AU Sinjir into the First Order, or have him sort of skip 30 years by way of something like freezing in carbonite or just simple relativity (got stranded between planets, accelerated his ship to near light speed and only lived a few months while thirty years passed outside). Either way, he could have been recovered by the First Order or the Resistance. Do you have a preference on those? ]

[ooc: Oooo either of those sound good to me. I can totally see his attempts at Imperialist hunting going awry and he ends up frozen in carbonite or some nonsense for the next three decades. Maybe he gets uncorked and sends out distress codes that are old Resistance and no one is listening so he tries old Imperial codes out of desperation because omg alien pygmies are trying to cook him up for dinner. Or just updating him to be in the F.O. Him being loyal to the F.O. then booking it after Starkiller goes binary much like he did in Aftermath. I guess, what tickles your fancy more? You more interested in playing him Resistance and snarky or keep the whole creep Loyalty Officer thing. I'm down for anything because the snarkfest between these two is gonna be amazeballs either way.]

[ How about: Sinjir hit some kind of disruption, perhaps a cloaked star system or something crazy like that, in hyperspace transit in the past. His ship got knocked out of hyperspace. He managed to get it up to near lightspeed, relativity meant that he aged a few months while thirty years passed. The First Order picked him up.

...then, the First Order are dicks to him, and they start following his route (he was probably tracking down some weird old-ass Sith or Imperial secret) and because he's mad about it, they run into the same fucking anomaly/disturbance and the ship is destroyed or scattered, leaving Sinjir and Hux stranded some place. Secret weird Sith planet?? shuttle/escape pod?? idk. ]

[Sounds like a plan to me! I can start if you want but do we want to cover all this or jump directly to the meat of the meme and have them be stranded in a life pod all in medias res? I am leaning slightly towards maybe building up to things going fubar but I'm good with just jumping into the middle of things as well.]

Scott surveyed the island, the wreckage of their plane, and the mound of salvage they had managed to extract from it, then to Emma. And sighed.

"Well, I think we're stuck. A little. Maybe." The dry humor in his voice was overlaid with annoyance and exasperation.

Emma sighed and began to sift through the salvage, looking for something they could use to call for help. "No radio, I take it." That was. . . well it was somewhat disappointing, anyway. They had things to do back home and this plane crash was a distraction.

Then again, they were stranded alone on a tropical island with no way to communicate with their team. It might be a nice vacation, provided they didn't starve.

"None at all. Most of the electronics were fried by the storm. Damn cosmic rays." His words were wry. They'd both had their share of encounters with cosmic things. This had been, by far, the least hazardous.

"Still, we have the insta-shelter, and the food supplies, and clothing, so... we should be okay, for some time." he grinned at her. "And can show you my mighty hunter impression, with fish, if need be."

Emma sighed and shrugged, poking through the salvage until she found the shelter. "I'll set this up. Care to take bets on whether the school will be burned down when we get home?" She dragged the shelter container further inland and began to set it up.

"Okay. I'll work on scavenging out a meal, then, and cooking it." As he started gathering supplies, he considered her words, then shook his head.

"Probably at least once. The question is whether or not it would be rebuilt by then or not. And by whom."

With their luck, a new team of X-Men composed of all their favorite enemies would become the new residents.

"Don't even think it," Emma chided, setting up the shelter. "I don't feel anyone around us. Where ever we are, we're well and truly alone."

Scott chuckled. "Well, maybe we finally got that vacation we wanted. I don't think deserted island was on our list, but..." He shrugged as he gathered stones to build a stone pit and cook some food.

Then he gathered the food and set up the self-heating unit. "There."
