[A neatly wrapped bottle of Tequila left on Matt's desk at the office. No note, the brand will speak for itself.]

[The bottle was a surprise. He usually didn't get gifts unless they were from Foggy or Karen. And, well, things had been awkward between the three of them. But one whiff of the contents inside the bottle told him who sent it. It made his breath hitch for just a moment.]

[It seemed an oddly appropriate gift, something distinctively hers. It's showing she cares. Just like breaking into his apartment to wait for him to get home show she cares.]

[He listened for a heartbeat - breathing - the slice of a blade through air - anything, but he was alone. She clearly broke into the office to place the bottle on the desk. The lock on his windows and door at his apartment were an easy job. So he went there, hoping that maybe...he didn't know what he was hoping.]

Elektra?

[He jerked his head around, listening for her.]

[And at his apartment she will be waiting. Sitting perfectly at home on his sofa. For a vigilante, he has absolutely terrible locks.]

Matthew.

[Locks that clearly need changing now.

The first thing he noticed was her scent - it's her, but it's not her.]

What are you doing here?

It's a pleasure to see you as well.

[After the hell she's climbed out of, she didn't know where else she could possibly go. And perhaps now is the time for honesty.]

I didn't know where else to go.

[He caught his breath. He ran all the way there.

Matt was silent as he closed the front door behind him. He was silent as he tentatively walked over. He was silent - he could feel the softness of her skin through the air and vibrations. He could feel it all.]

[He'd be able to tell by her breathing that she's not unaffected by seeing him; not unaffected by any of it, really.

The only person who ever saw the good in her, he's the only person she could need right now.]

I remember it, Matt.

[He swallowed the sob in his throat. It made him choke. He thought he lost her when she died in his arms - the only person he could be himself with. The only person who knew and accepted him. There was darkness in her, but together they would've risen above that.]

What do you remember?

You. I was dying in your arms.

[It's only then that she stands and goes to him. They've never been the type to hug, but it seems like a good reason to start, coming back from the dead.]

You were the last thing I saw, Matt.

[When she embraced him, the emptiness of her chest against his nearly caused him to push her away. There was no beat - no pulse. As if she was still...but she was here - in his arms. How was that possible? How was Nobu being alive possible? How was any of this possible?]

I know. I - I - I'm s sorry.

[She needed his protection and he failed.]

[There is something unnerving about no longer having a pulse. As rarely noticed as it is by the average person, when it's gone it's almost deafening in it's silence.]

Don't be. I'd do it again, you believed in me, the only one who ever has.

[they weren't perfect - far from it, actually. But if there was one thing he was sure of, it was her - yes, he believed in her, but it was deeper than that. Was it love? Did the short moments they have with each other - were those love? He thought maybe they were.

He held her face in his hands and ran his lips against her skin, first down the slope of her nose, up her cheekbones, along her jaw. She was here.]

[His belief in her became her strength. The one thing she thought about as she fought her way out of the pits and back to him.

Her eyes close as he kisses her face, it's the sensation of him learning her all over again. She runs her fingers through his hair.]

[It felt new and at the same time, it didn't. When he was in college, they had been like horny teenagers, everything had to be fast and naughty and bad, but now...he wanted things to be slowed down - he wanted to savor her - knowing that they might not get a lot of time. The Hand was still a threat. Elektra was still the Black Sky. Who could blame him for wanting to forget about all that for just a moment - a few moments, so he could savor her?]

[She feels alive. And really, that might be the thing she seeks most. To tilt her head up and catch his lips with her own; now a bit colder than they should be. She knows her heart doesn't beat, but she still breathes, still lives.

She hasn't determined whether it's a miracle or a curse yet.]

[He kissed her back. Hard. Everything he was trying to convey into words, instead, he tried to say it with his lips against hers. They were colder, yes. She was different, sure. But she was still his.]

[No words were needed, the way he kissed her was practically screaming that he was glad she was back. Just as her desperate return of that kiss is telling of how she needs him. She would have never admitted to needing him before, to needing anyone. Together they can do good.

She presses her whole body against him, it's not as violent as they usually are, but it's not overly gentle either. She knows Matt won't break.]

[And he knows that she won't break either as he picked her up, her legs going around his waist, and walked to his bedroom. If this was just for one day, then he would be satisfied with just this. If everything went to hell tomorrow, he would still be satisfied.]

[They need this. To reconnect on this most basic level. If she had her way they would actually run together, to fight together. It was only in the moments of dying in his arms that she realized that was enough for her. She whispers his name against his ear as she trails kisses along the side of his jaw.]

[He groaned softly. Hearing his name come out from her like that - it made an animalistic side of him take over. His hands slid under her top, fingers skimming her stomach, sides, and back. He felt scars and lines and her spine as he ran his fingers down to the small of her back.]

[A new scar has joined her collection, and it's more raised than the others. Elektra loved to bring out that primal side of him, the sort of raw passion he can keep hidden so very well.]

[He felt it, too. That scar, that wound - he remembered the sai piercing her, killing her. It made him stop in his tracks.]

Elekta?

[He choked out her name. What were they doing? Was this right?]
