We've got options!

1: Message in a bottle - Can be literal message in a bottle at a beach or a lakeside or a river/creek, or a more metaphorical one 'if found, please return to' written in a sketchbook or a day planner left on the seat of the bus, or a park bench or the lost and found where you work.

2: The Lake House - Somehow you're getting mail from the person who lived in your house five, ten, twenty or a hundred years after you do, you can tell them the house's hidden secrets, or let them know where to put the buckets to catch the leaks when the rain starts coming down.

3: Postcards from the edge - You're on vacation, or doing a world-wide, soul-searching trip, but you promised to send postcards to friends and family. Better get on that.

4: Another time, another place - Obligatory Medieval/Old West/Victorian/Hogwarts AU option, letter-writing is the primary form of correspondence.

5: Pen Pal Program™ - You were assigned this person as a pen pal, either for a class project, or through an agency that specializes in this kind of thing. See how alike you are, or how different!

6: John doesn't live here anymore - For some reason, someone keeps sending mail to the former tenant of your new house, you've tried returning them to sender, but they just keep coming! What would happen if you wrote back?

7: Lost letters office - This is the 'what did I forget?' option, use this for anything I didn't come up with, go wild!

(The astronaut and self-professed "King of Mars" was pretty confused and shocked by the suddenly appearing sliver tube and he debates for a few moments before opening it.

He has to read it a few times before the any of it begins to sink in.

Mark, of course, then finds himself having a moment of "eyebrow raise" and after that finds himself giving off a few mutters of "What the" that have different profanities attached at the end.)

Be careful the next time I go into the airlock? Why...it was working just as fine as something past its retirement date can.

(He frowns and decides to climb into the rover. He glances at the message and then tries to see if there is anything that he might be able to use to respond back - as crazy as he knows that sounds and finds a notebook and spare pen that he used to keep his logs on an occasion or two.)

Uh, thanks, I think. Just one question because knowing my past experiences with things - this will probably be bad for me somehow and I should know why.

Even if you were to send him a letter, doubtful he'd reply. He prefers to do business in person, if that's what you're writing to him about. Wouldn't know, I don't open his mail.

Sorry this little trip has taken longer than I planned. Apparently my friend decided to take an unscheduled detour to DC, and didn't even think to inform me, the bastard! But it's all sorted. I'll be having words with him about the extra travel plans in a day or so, just as soon as his irritating guests leave.

So, if all goes well, I should be home by this weekend, maybe? Or, better yet, why don't you take a week and meet me here, and let's go rambling. We haven't rambled in a good while. And it's springtime, my favorite time for traveling.
