They shouldn't be doing this. Both of them know better. It's dangerous, illegal in their home country, not to mention the regulations against fraternization. Or would it be sororization? They were both women, after all. Both women, in a male-dominated profession, both women fiercely intelligent, dedicated to the work, to survival. Maybe that was why it all started. Maybe that's why they haven't stopped. Sure, there are men, but what man would understand? What man could not be played like a fiddle?

It's ostensibly the reason they're here tonight, in this bar; fabricating and collecting blackmail material. But who could blame Natasha if she leans closer than she has to to get the bartender's attention? And that hand on Nina's arm, entirely for balance, of course. [He remembers when he was the one who would appear without warning, the world all rattling and flashing until time finally settled around him and he collapsed in a heap wherever he'd ended up. The bookstore was always the best option, but somehow he did more vanishing from there. Forever feeling the tug across the entire surface of his skin, that slow disintegration, right as he looked into Cassie's eyes and saw something more that needed to be said.

There's no more of that now. They're fixed in time, both of them, in a world that's hardly ideal but is, at the very least, fully populated. It's all he could have asked of Eudio: his own little garage that he owns and operates with a few hired hands, Cassie reinstated at the CDC, a very happy Ramse family living just down the block from them. It's practically paradise.

But if there's one thing Eudio taught him, it's that being presented with a paradise of your very own does nothing to prepare you for it. Not when the damage is done.

Now someone else appears from time to time, although without the rattling and flashing. She has the good grace not to come to his home, instead appearing in the garage more often than not, just around the time he'll be closing up shop. It was a horrible scare the first time, seeing as though he never knew of this power Jem had asked of the city, but since then they've... settled into a pattern. Nothing that he can begin to call right or excusable, not in his quiet life with Cassie where nothing's on the line and no quota needs to be met with the activity, but something he still can't deny. Even in a perfect world, as he learned in Eudio, the same darkness lives in him.]

[There would be a lot of problems if this got out, and if any of them were followed to their meeting place. If Riku's other friends knew about their relationship, he would probably die of embarrassment and bruised ego from the teasing. If Roxas' boss and "coworkers" knew, it would be a lot worse for him.

Honestly, that's what makes Riku wonder if this is worth it. Putting other people in danger, or even just potentially in harm's way has just never felt right to him. As it is, the two of them hardly fit each other's ideas of a perfect partner. They bicker and argue far more than they agree on things.

And yet, Riku finds himself waiting for the blonde under the cover of night, in the shadows of Beast's Castle. Really, he should try and just end it tonight, and save themselves both the pain.]

Waking up in Hux's bed was a bit of a shock. At least for the first few minutes. His mind caught up a few moments later and he kept his arms around the man before carefully releasing him.

Kylo Ren did not keep lovers.

Is at least what he told himself as he left the room. He showered. He scrubbed his skin red and raw before redressing his own wound on his side. Then layer by layer, he cloaked himself away and the helmet fit onto his head, creating that veneer he enjoyed.

At least until he went to give his report to Snoke.

But the few hours later, he was striding through the hall with that stormy air about him, going to the command bridge.

He would wake several times over the course of the night, be it from cold or from the grim nature of his dreams.

Hux would never become an emperor if a small squadron of resistance pilots could utterly dismantle Starkiller--the whole thing was a massive embarrassment for the First Order. He carried the failure heavily on his own shoulders, telling himself to do better.

It would be shortly before five in the morning when Hux gave up and moved to get out of bed, his body immediately protesting as he stood. His muscles were stiff, collecting a fresh uniform before stumbling just a little on his way to the bathroom. Sliding the door shut behind him, he was temporarily blinded by the light, blinking the spots from his eyes so he could see his own reflection in the mirror.

His neck, shoulders, chest--everywhere he could see was either bruised or bitten, the general scowling as he drew thin fingers against the marks. His eyes bore tired lines, lips pinker than usual and just a little swollen--not to mention the dried blood streaked across his cheek.

A shower was mandatory. Steaming hot water stung against the places where the knight's teeth had broken skin, the general clenching his jaw while he washed himself. This was going to be a long day. Once he was clean, he'd dress whatever bite marks seemed to require the attention, brushing and styling his hair back into the neat style he usually kept before pulling on a clean uniform. Silent as he could manage, the general went out into the bedroom to pull on his boots before leaving.

At 0600 he had a meeting on the bridge with his officers, collecting reports, discussing the death toll, figuring out where to go from here--he was always externally calm during such tasks, but he would be fuming by the end of it. Which was perfect, as he passed Captain Phasma in the corridor on his way the the delivery bay--some replacement consoles had arrived.

By the time Kylo Ren was heading for the command bridge, Hux had just sent Phasma away for reconditioning. She would be in a bit more of a hurry to depart the general's presence than usual, the encounter leaving an unpleasant taste in the general's mouth. Was it fair to punish her for preserving her own life? Yes. Her actions had led to the deaths of countless soldiers and the loss of a significant military weapon. The First Order should not have had such a blow dealt to them because of the actions of a single soldier, such a fact was an embarrassment to everything the Order stood for.

So Hux was a little disappointed in himself and his soldiers, looking out across the stars with his hands folded neatly behind his back.
