There for You

It's one of those days where, mentally or physically or both, you've been through the ringer. Or, maybe less like going through the ringer and more like falling though it, hitting every sharp edge and solid metal piece on your way down. But things aren't all darkness and despair here at the day's end; you're lucky enough to have an understanding someone with open arms waiting on you (or with you the whole time). Someone special, of course. There could be intimate closeness to clear your mind, sex to relieve frustrations or to comfort, or some simple interaction to ground you. The results are all the same, though, which is you getting to decompress after the day, week, month, year - you get the picture - from hell.

[In their line of work, sometimes things happen and people don't come home the way they ought. Fitz is familiar with the materials from his file, at least. Complications during the Inhumans' attack had affected some of the team, locking them into some kind of comatic stasis. Fitz had been working on the ventilation systems after Jemma theorized that they'd been affected by an airborne element. In trying to improve the air filtering, he'd managed to get himself infected as well. He and the others were out for half a year, and several of the database logs looked highly unfavorable. Sometime in mid-August, their vitals took a turn, leaving the med staff to declare the victims fully braindead. They'd been kept alive as a courtesy, most likely, but no longer prioritized. Updates jumped from hourly to daily to weekly. The answer arrived when the Lash attacks grew more intense. He'd murdered one of the Inhumans hiding in Costa Rica, and all at once the coma wing sprang to life, alert and healthy as if no time had passed at all.

And yet... Time passed quite readily for everyone else. It's nearly November now, and there've been a few sketchy, rushed summaries about the way things progressed. Fitz knows things he wishes he didn't know about what happened between Jemma and the patient in the next bed over. But right now, he's presently hanging over Jemma's desk with a flash drive in hand.]

You took some audio logs in the clinic wing round the time we reckon Will's lung issue turned south. I think I might be able to hear the change in his breathing and construct a piece to regulate it, but it would mean listening to the background in these files.

Is it all right for me to listen to them? If there's anything personal, I'll leave them alone...

[You did your best. Jemma keeps repeating that to herself, but she's not incredibly keen on actually listening to her own advice. She had done her best with the information she'd had at the time, but it all felt so empty to say.

She should have been elated to have Fitz again, pasty face and sharp blue eyes and all. There shouldn't be a hint of anxiety every time she saw him now, but it seized her every day, every time he so much as glanced in her direction. She was low.]

["If" there was anything personal on the drive? It was an electronic journal of her pouring her heart out to the ether, speaking of everything and nothing, sometimes in a clear, concise way, and other times a quivering mess of emotions. But she was pretty sure those had been left off, leaving the relevant files. She's still overtired, and rubs her eyes briefly.]
