[ Tsukishima was not the type to get crushes. He didn't like people, or rather there were very few people that Tsukki did like and was willing to spend time around. His brother was one, or had been before he'd caught him in a lie and had gone to college. That was slowly being mended, but other than that there was only one other person that Tsukishima could stand and he absolutely did not have a crush on him.
At least that's what he was telling himself.
More often than not he was catching himself staring at Yamaguchi. He was able to write it off as being distracted and waved the inevitable questioning glances away. He could ignore his increasingly romantic thoughts behind the auditory veil of his headphones, but even his ipod was beginning to troll him as more and more of his tunes seemed to have a romantic lilt that he hadn't noticed before.
This was getting ridiculous.
He was sitting with Yamaguchi at lunch, headphones up over his ears, and was unknowingly staring at Yamaguchi's face again. Subconsciously he counted the freckles on his face though he already knew their number. ]
[Yamaguchi couldn't remember the last time he had such a crush on someone. Probably in middle school there was a cute girl, though that only lasted for a few days. That was the fate of many of his crushes, they only lasted a few days before he saw another cute girl. As he grew older that also started to go towards guys. He didn't see what was the problem of having a crush on someone if they looked good. However, there was one that lingered in the back of his mind. One that he didn't know what to do with or if he should do something with it. Of all the people he knew, of all the crushes he's had, the biggest one had to be for his best friend Tsukki.
When they were younger, Yamaguchi liked the way Tsukki could make bullies go away. No one ever messed with him, something that Yamaguchi thought was very cool. In time his admiration changed from that to friendship to something a bit more when they entered high school. Yamaguchi wasn't aware of the change, until one day after school. It started to rain on the same day Yamaguchi forgot his umbrella. Tsukki offered his like normal, but the way he made sure he didn't get too wet on their way home made his heart beat a little faster when he was home. It started to grow from there with no signs of stopping any time soon.
It was hard to try and hide it with someone as perceptive as Tsukishima. He tried not to look when they were in class or when he put on his headphones. The worst was trying not to stare when he took his glasses off to clean them. There were many times Yamaguchi nearly stared when he saw those brown eyes. This little crush was getting out of control quite fast.
Then there were times where Yamaguchi caught Tsukki staring at him. His heart had some hope that he always squashed before it bloomed into something more. Such as today at lunch, Yamaguchi looked up from the magazine he bought to Tsukki staring at him. Yamaguchi blinked in surprise, his hand moving to touch around his face as he mouthed 'Is there some rice there or something?'

[ A well practiced mask was all that kept the surprise off of Tsukishima's face when Yamaguchi's eyes met his own. He hadn't been fully aware that he'd been staring again until that moment when amber met brown.
He'd become quite adept at being able to read lips, especially Yamaguchi's, since it was rare for him to not have his headphones up at a volume that fully blocked out sound.
He almost said no, but a feeling of boldness came over him and he reached out with his hand to cup Yamaguchi's chin and run his thumb across his lower lip as if something had really been there after all. The expression on Tsukishima's face was still blank, but his heart was pounding. ]
[Yamaguchi moved his hand to touch his face again when Tsukki's hand cupped his chin then ran his thumb along his bottom lip while they were having lunch. Any thought Yamaguchi had disappeared, replaced with the wonder of what spurned Tsukki on. His face stayed the same impassive one he wore during class then why did he cup his cheek in such a way? Why did he swipe his thumb against his bottom lip?
Maybe something was there after all. He didn't want to let that hope bloom in his heart that maybe Tsukki had a crush on him too. Besides, he was only getting some rice off his face right? Right.
Now if his heart could stop pounding so hard and his face go back to normal that would be great. If he was honest with himself he knew that wasn't going to happen soon.
Yamaguchi couldn't look away as he mouthed, 'Tsukki?']
[ Tsukki didn't give anything away as he answered. He didn't bother taking his headphones off as he could read Yamaguchi's lips just fine.
