The Pirate AU Meme



Ahoy there me hearties and so on and so forth.

Your characters are now pirates! Sailing the open seas in search of prizes for the taking, engaging in daring battles, drinking rum, getting shipwrecked and everything else it is that pirates do.

1. Post your character, feel free to leave your post blank or drop in a brief description of who/what they are. Pirates, cabin boys, whores, naval officers, the Caribbean is your oyster!
2. Tag other characters, enjoy piratey goodness! There are prompts below for inspiration, or make something up yourselves!

Relationships
1. Natural Enemies - pirate vs navy, pirate vs pirate, native vs pirate, whatever the combination, you're supposed to be at odds with each other.
2. Crewmates - You sail together, you fight together, you may or may not die for each other. Nowhere does it say you have to like each other.
3. Land and Sea - you're a sailor, they're a farmer, a plantation owner, a shopkeeper, a whore in a brothel, you only see them when you're in port so you better make it count
4. Hierarchy - They're your captain, your boss, or generally just higher up in the food chain than you.
5. Somebody else - Your choice!

Scenarios
1. Before the battle - you're preparing to take a prize, or take on the navy, are you ready?
2. Mid battle - Fight! Fight! Fight!
3. The Aftermath - You're licking your wounds, counting your prize, taunting your prisoners...whatever you're doing, the fight is over.

[ No one would ever claim that Stephanie Brown wasn't a hopeless romantic. She dreamed of adventure, of a dashing life on the high seas, of discovering treasure in a foreign jungle, of living out her days on a tropical island. She dreamed of seeking revenge on the forces that wronged not just her and hers, but every port on this side of the Atlantic. She dreamed, a little, of one certain moderately-attractive shiphand by name of Timothy Something-Or-Other. But most of all, Stephanie Brown dreamed of nothing more or less than leaving the little harbor town for good, family and troubles with it, and even if her other daydreams never went anywhere, she herself would have to.

So that was how Stephanie Brown found herself squeezed into an empty barrel on the first ship she could manage to slip onto, dressed as her best approximation of a cabin boy-- though as the ship lurched out of the harbor and she fought to stay hidden while also keeping the contents of her stomach down, she can't help but admit that it could only be marginally better to be a male stowaway than a female one. Perhaps she should have thought this through a little more. Or at least picked a larger hiding spot; she's not so sure the brim of her cap isn't visible over the edge of the barrel. ]

1716 - The North Sea

Prince John awakens with a pounding headache and an aching back. His hands are bound behind him and he quickly realises he's gagged with the remains of his bedsheets. Everything is dark yet he can feel the rocking of the ship - his future father-in-law's ship - more than before, and he quickly works out he's below deck.

A surprise really. When that strange ship had appeared through the fog with its black sail and the pirates had boarded King Arthur's royal vessel The Agra, John had not suspected he would wake up again.

They'd been vastly outnumbered. It was only supposed to be a simple diplomatic journey. The King had supplied him with only a handful of soldiers for his protection. But then, first of all, Princess Mary was not accompanying John and, secondly, John was aware he was hardy the King's favourite choice for his daughter's suitor.

But John had fought. He was a soldier long before he became an honorary Prince after all. He would die defending his fiancée's family and his country's honour.

Or not.

Because it turns out the pirates spared him. Yet John can hear them above deck, laughing and celebrating, drinking the royal wine that was meant for the allies. John is grateful that no women were on board for them to...take for themselves either. Are the guard's dead? The captain?

And what exactly do they plan to do to him?

Who had ever thought that captaining a ship would involve so much bloody preparation? ...Well, okay, he would, after being quartermaster to Charles for so long he knew exactly what went into running a ship and how much administration there was involved, but he'd never chafed at it so much - perhaps because normally it happened during the much shorter periods spend at port, and he'd never been so desperate to get back to the sea before, where he belonged.

Despite how much it irritated him, however, needs must, and he was too much of a perfectionist to make a sloppy job of it in his eagerness, so he sat downstairs in the brothel, stuck at a table layered with papers as he sorted through everything he still needed to do before they could sail. When he was told somebody wanted to talk to him, it was with a certain amount of frustration that he spun round in his chair and leveled the newcomer with an impatient stare.

"Yes, what is it?"
