Perhaps they give you hope, they're an innocent worth keeping safe, they showed you unexpected kindness, or they're simply something to cling to. No matter what, you'll protect them and you wouldn't dream of leaving this place without them. They will leave, though...

This place was like an asylum, all scientific experiments and the broken minds and bodies left in their wake. Oval Tower gleamed and sparkled from the outside, fooling the world to its true nature while in its bowels, the means to control people’s minds were studied and produced.

His serial was R-2E-054. He was faulty, flawed, had been slated for dismantling and recycling of his parts, but happenstance had saved him. Thirty floors away on that particular day, the essential subject called ‘Aoba’ had unleashed the power of his voice and R-2E-054 had not only heard, he’d gone into a sudden frenzy in attempt to reach the source. He’d made it sixteen floors before he was subdued, but instead of cementing his destruction for certain, he’d been spared and subjected to new studies instead. Why did he ignore Toue’s voice but respond to Aoba’s? He hadn’t been programmed that way. It was…curious.

R-2E-054 and Aoba had been allowed to meet, and leverage over R-2E-054’s strange ability was acquired. He was easily bribed with the reward of spending time with Aoba, easily cowed by threats to Aoba’s well-being.

Now, once again, R-2E-054 was allowed into the rooms were Aoba and the other essential subject, Sei, were kept and allowed to roam. R-2E-054 was kind to Sei as well, but it was only the blue-haired twin that he sought when he called out:

“Master?”
