Sometimes, these things happen. Sometimes, you're in just the wrong place at just the right time, or you've made the wrong (or right, depending on your intentions) person mad. Sometimes it's better for everyone if you just go. Sometimes there isn't time for good-bye.

LOST
You've managed to lose yourself somewhere out there, for whatever reason it was. Maybe you took someone with you (willingly? not?), or you found someone else who needed to disappear as badly as you did. You're in your car, or a cheap hotel, or a house by the side of the road. What else can you do but watch, and wait?

FOUND
It could have been as simple as being glimpsed at the 7-11. Your phoneline wasn't as secure as you thought. You locked eyes with the wrong person across the room. Now the house of cards is collapsing, and maybe not just your life, but the lives of everyone you love could be in jeopardy now. The walls are closing in, and your arms are giving out.

[The officers that came to visit her had told her that she was in the future, snatched from her timeline by advanced First Order technology, and that they were keeping her detained in the hopes of changing history. Leia couldn't believe the Bantha fodder coming out of their mouths. She disregarded all of it. All she knew was that she had to escape, and soon.]

[She'd finally run out of patience. As soon as the stormtrooper delivering her food had arrived, she grabbed the tray and jabbed his throat with the edge, right between the helmet and his armor. Leia knew it wouldn't hurt the trooper, but hopefully it was enough to stun him.]

Modern, in Kirkwall circa DA2, on the run in a post-apocalyptic scenario, etc. If you've got a preferred AU/point in time I can probably think of a reason for her to be in avoidance mode. [ When Maya unceremoniously blew a hole in Brother Sophis' head and proclaimed she was leaving Athenas, Brother Harker had asked, "But where will you go?"

Truth be told, she didn't know the answer to that, aside from "away". She wanted away from the Order, away from Athenas, and away from the rules and limitations and empty promises. What she needed, she realized, was an outlet. A chance to use the skills she had spent the last twenty-seven years honing. Mercenary work seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

She started freelance, and manged to pick up momentum quickly. Her skills lent themselves well to the lifestyle, and it wasn't long until the Siren had something of a reputation, but it still wasn't quite enough to pay the bills. She needed something a little more stable, a little more recognizable. A little bigger.

Her induction into the Ravagers had been an easy decision for the higher ups of the group, once they saw what she could do, and they were even willing to accept her personal rule that she never, ever hurt unarmed civilians for any reason or any amount of money if it meant having her powers on their side. In the short time she was with them, she became an invaluable member of their little group, skilled and more than a little scary.

So when Yondu's "pet project" as some people called him when they thought the Centaurian wasn't around to hear it flew the coop, he figured there would be no one better to send after Peter Quill than a woman who could hold things captive with a mere thought. Maya had minimal interaction with Peter when he was around- he tried to flirt with her once or twice- but for the most part she failed to see what Yondu saw in the Terran. But a job was a job, and she'd been sent after worse things before. Bringing the prodigal son back home to dear ol' dad shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Peter was craftier than she took him for initially, and when she finally caught up to him, he wised up to the fact that he was being followed pretty quickly. They spent a lot of time playing cat and mouse, Maya always one step behind, but she'd caught a lucky tip and was able to track Peter to a shitty little station in the middle of nowhere. The station seemed to house one lone diner, where the grizzled residents retired after working thankless twelve hour shifts at whatever passed for businesses this far out into the galaxy.

Maya doesn't bother with subtlety, she just barges into the place, fixes her gaze on Peter sitting in a booth in the far corner, and says, ] Make even one move, Peter Quill, and will phaselock you.
