Freak Like Me
![]() You know you're a freak and that, sooner or later, everyone you've known will leave you. And why wouldn't they? You're a monster. Maybe you look like one, maybe it's just your abilities, but it's all the same, even if you're oppressed for your differences or if you slide under the radar. You're in a hell of your own design - loneliness. Until you meet another freak, someone else incredibly different...someone who also wants to stay with you. The circumstances, good or bad, under which you met don't matter, because you're not alone anymore. In fact, this person makes you want to look past any self-loathing or low self-esteem you may have and be better. At least they do on some level. Why they care, you don't entirely know. One thing is for certain, however: you'll do anything to keep them safe and by your side. Your situation may just come in handy, for once.

[Chloe had a target in mind. She'd found an old map and been trying to find anything still in-tact. This place was supposed to...]
[She hurried ahead, leaving the door for her partner, and counted doors one, two, three...ah hah! Shoving it open with her shoulder, she stumbled out into one...and found herself grinning widely.]
Marcy! Get your ass in here!
[Friendly, teasing, shouted back into the hallway as she stood near the front of the store she'd found. Light was filtering in through cracks in the front of the building, but the wreckage had prevented things from getting too looted. She stood siluetted against it, her old ratty jeans and boots contrasting against a winter coat she'd dug up ages ago, her hair still blue...dye was really the only indulgence she had anymore. Well, that and Marcy.]
[Which was why she'd wanted to find this fancy camping supply store in the first place.]

[Marceline laughs, slipping her hatchet into a crude sewn-on loop on her jeans as she steps into the store. Her dark hair was cropped just above her shoulders, and she stood a few inches shorter than Chloe as she made her way in.]
Oh, man, it's... [Marceline laughs, a thrill racing down her spine as she leans against Chloe. They could hole up here for a while just fine, supplement with some trips to places close-by...]
It's all here! [She can't hide her excitement, they catch a break so rarely--] You think the whole strip mall's like this?

No clue. Hopefully? I mean, people probably kept away cause of that plane out front.
[She really couldn't stop grinning.]
We could crash here like...weeks and shit, Marcy. Almost like a vacation.

Kilgrave had been so certain that this would work. That all he would have to do is show up with the greatest, most sentimental gift in the world, and even despite their... history, that she would see past all that like he had and learn to accept him. It was perfect in his head, and it would be perfect. After all, who in the world would be able to handle someone like her without running away screaming? Even with as many powered individuals that had been coming out of the woodwork like termites, Jessica was still his special jewel.
Things could have been perfect. Too bad Jessica was positively determined not to let it be.
He sat in his cell, on the hard metal that barely passed for a bench, let alone a bed, glowering out the glass at her. She'd made him angry and broke his heart. After all he'd done for her, this was how she showed her gratitude? Still, he supposed in a twisted way, he got what he wanted. Here she was, giving him her full attention, sharing time with him. There were fewer smiles and lovely meals than he would like, but there seemed little that he could do about it.
But all the same, they were bonded together; inevitable just like he'd said. She couldn't let him go, and he wouldn't let her go. Somehow, that thought put a smile on his face.
