A Downtime Meme

Are your characters from a canon where it's all action, all the time? Are their lives just one huge stressful situation after another? If yes, then give them a break from all the madness. They can go right back to going on back-to-back missions, leading their rebellions, conquering the world, or saving the earth after giving them a moment to breathe and feel something close to normal.

Some ideas to get you started:
1. At a bar | because a drink always helps!
2. Dancing | because music seems to help everyone unwind!
3. On holiday | because even quick vacations can do wonders!
4. Out on a date | when else do you guys time alone?
5. In bed | asleep or just relaxing, because they need to catch up on rest!
6. Still working | because they need someone to tell them to take a break.
7. Gone fishing | because it's nice and quiet with just you, the fish and whoever you dragged along with you
8. Wild card | Whatever you want! It's your downtime, spend it how you like before getting back to The Job.

[When scavenging was life, scavengers tended to have frenemies. Duo had seen this girl around a lot. She was good, like him, and they often ended up in some sort of easy-going and unspoken competition with each other. At least, that's how he felt about it. They had never actually talked before. He watched her, wondering just why she worked as hard as she did. He'd never seen her take even a tiny bit of down time.

He'd seen others do that... work themselves right into burn out. He admired her in a way, and really didn't want to see that happen to her, so he wandered over, intending to do a friendly intervention for her well-being.]

Working hard like that... you're bound to work yourself into a coma. Have you considered taking a break?

[ Dates are not something that Illya does often. Picnic dates, formal dates, casual dates, blind dates. Especially that last one; he has a personal bias against being set up 'for his own good' by people who should know better. He also, unfortunately, has a hard time saying no to his partner.

Or saying no in a situation designed to poke at his personal sense of honor. Case in point: one of the secretaries at work has a brother who does personal training. Ex-military, special forces, turned his skills into a business. Which is the definition of capitalism, but not something the Russian feels like arguing about. Said brother trains celebrities, and one of those celebs has a friend who, by limited account, is a prickly sort. Said celeb wants to hook said friend up, and by the time Illya comes into the picture, there's a maze of connections that would make King Minos proud. Suffice to say, the celeb got her friend to agree, and Illya was badgered into it by the aforementioned secretary - and his own partner.

So here he is, lurking inside a bar. The kind of bar popular with neighborhood toughs, drawing in frequent (or infrequent) regulars, the kind of bar that anyone can walk into and be sorted into 'local' and 'stranger'. He knows which category he belongs to, even without the subtle staring. Without the whispers about his height, or the Russian accent, or even that he isn't sure where to sit. Table or booth, near the exit or near the kitchen. Eventually he compromises and chooses a table near the bar counter, about halfway between both sets of doors. Hopefully the woman he's meeting will find him easily (light-haired, fair Slavic features are hard to miss in Hell's Kitchen).

Just in case, though, he's wearing a name tag that says 'Hello My Name Is: Trish Sent Me'. ]

[The wheels are already inexorably in motion for the Keene Act to pass. It's only a question of when, now, and when Ozymandias will unmask before the law forces him into it. But in the meantime, there is still work to be done, and tonight they've done a lot of it.

He'd been passing the docks on patrol—Ozymandias suspects that every mask includes the docks in their patrol, wherever else in the city they might consider their home base—and the swish-thuds and grunts had led him to a fight. It seemed Nite Owl and Rorschach had the situation well in hand already and he would have departed as quickly as he arrived, until one of the men yanked open a storage container and pulled out a girl, no more than twelve, to use as a human shield.

It hadn't been well-received.

Rorschach had taken care of making sure the criminals wouldn't be moving any time soon and vanished, as he generally did when police sirens began to be heard in the distance. Of course Ozymandias had decided to stay and help the police with their inquiries, and making certain the children were all accounted for, and rather surprisingly, Nite Owl had as well. Now finished with that obligation, Ozymandias lets out an actual human sigh and rubs his forehead just above the mask.]

I don't know about you, Nite Owl, but I could use a drink after that. Would you care to join me?

[Something so traumatizing it was utterly unspeakable had happened. Unlike every other dream she tended to have, this one she could describe in exquisite detail right down to the accented voice urging her on. It wasn't the first time she'd had a feverish dream, she was only human after all. No, what troubled her from the moment she woke up to sweat soaked sheets and slick inner thighs was the man who had earned a starring role in her dream.

She kept her distance from him when they met up at the police station and for a little while she got away with ignoring him entirely. At least until they were alone in her car. She could feel him staring at her even though she refused to so much as glance in his direction. Her hands gripping the wheel uncommonly tight]
