Right now. You shouldn't have a weapon right now. You'll be able to use a saber again, I'm sure.

I'm not sure. When I was younger - a lot younger, I mean, when I was a little kid, my greatest talent was Force Healing. Even Snoke knew that. Maybe I'm still on the wrong path. Maybe I wasn't meant to be a fighter in the first place.

[girlandherstaff]

Would that be so terrible for you? Going into Force Healing? It sounds like it would be something to be proud of.

[greyorder]

There aren't any Masters left who know about Force Healing enough to teach it. Master Luke taught me all he knew and Snoke gave me some brutal lessons in the limitations of my own powers, but even the First Order's archive doesn't have much to offer on the subject.

Besides, you can't be reasonably asked to face the First Order alone. Not if there's another viable Force user with combat skills in existence; it would selfish of me to turn my back on you in such a way.

Now, that last bit there isn't something someone close to the Dark Side would think about.

[He pauses, opens his mouth to object, and then shuts it when he realizes he doesn't have a counterargument.] ...point taken.

[She gives a small smile] I know you're scared, but maybe it's the fear making you think you might slip back?

[greyorder]

I don't know, [he admits openly, shrugging a little helplessly.] Anger was my Dark Side focus, I never stopped to consider fear.

[girlandherstaff]

When you first captured me, when I turned the mind trick on you [which she didn't know she could do and it sort of scared her] I remember feeling a lot of fear. I didn't think on it much at the time but... It's possible that fear kept you there?

[greyorder]

I guess so. I thought it was just fear of not living up to my ancestry, though, nothing more. Nothing so intense.

[girlandherstaff]

People never think fear is more than what it is. I think that's why it affects us all so badly.

[greyorder]

You must have felt fears I can't imagine, given your origin. How did you conquer them?

[girlandherstaff]

Trying not to think on them. [It's the most honest answer she give]

[greyorder]

[He stares at her, floored.] How exactly does someone just not think about something?

[girlandherstaff]

Try not to think on something. It doesn't really work all that well. But mostly, you try to focus on everything else. I focused on whatever I was working on that day, mostly. Also trying to keep the sand to a minimum.

[greyorder]

The present is a bit hard to use as a distraction given how directly it ties in with all the things I'm trying not to think about. This... is going to take some getting used to. [If it can even be done.]

[girlandherstaff]

Well, then... Why don't you think about what you're aiming for?

[greyorder]

Same problem as thinking about the present; Master Skywalker always did say brooding was my best talent.

[girlandherstaff]

[Rey looks thoughtful] When days were really bad, I would pretend I was flying.

[greyorder]

When days were bad for me I used to pretend I wasn't a person. I was some kind of object, something that could weather the storm.

[girlandherstaff]

Would it help you, those types of thoughts?

[greyorder]

Yes. No. I don't know? It helped until I snapped out of it, and then it was worse. Much, much worse.

[girlandherstaff]

Oh [She shifts, not really knowing what to say to that] We'll think of something that works for you.

[greyorder]

...did you ever. [He pauses, but after all he's said, there really isn't much way to make this conversation worse. His desire to know if he was alone in his madness was overwhelming.] I know you're strong. You endured a lot more than most could have. But did you ever feel like less than a person?

[girlandherstaff]

All the time. [It's a honest answer, that has no emotion attached to it] I was just... the job, if you want to call it that. One more thing the sand could cover during a storm.
