[ It was just as much Kirk's fault as it was Poe's. A war was going on and they knew things would happen. "Danger" was ever present, especially where a pilot was concerned. It helped that Poe truly was the best they had.

But that hadn't stopped him from getting captured, from being presumed dead. Pilot and droid missing, the map to Skywalker incomplete. Kirk had continued on, fixing ships and any bit of tech he was familiar with. He buried the anger and grief he felt, kicking himself over and over again for not telling Poe about the feelings he had had about the mission. How he just knew it wasn't going to go well. But he knew it would have been useless anyway. Poe was dedicated to General Organa.

Maybe part of it was feeling like he was playing second fiddle sometimes but this was a war. It was no time to be petty or hold grudges. But maybe it was time to know when to let go.

He had wanted more than anything to go to see Poe when he heard he was back but had decided against it. He kept himself busy, instead, getting all the fighters ready for the assault they were going to launch. He wasn't sure how he was able to give the pilot the slip so many times. But like when he heard he was back, he could feel him there. Could feel him near.

During the celebration after the assault on the Star Killer Base, Kirk had stayed away from the festivities, glad everyone was back but preferring to be alone. Get ahead start on repairing the ships.

Of course it would be BB-8 that would find him easily. ]
