Then he quickly leans back, and before he knows it, his lips press to Sonic's cheek, and from there, he runs, skates flaring beneath him.]

[Shadow just took off, he got a head start! No way Sonic was gonna stay behind him.]

[He may have gotten the upper hand on this one, but Sonic wasn't gonna lose!]

[Almost immediately after he realizes what happened, he sprints after Shadow. It doesn't take long at all for him to catch up with his rival before they're running side by side as usual.]

[He throws a side grin and a chuckle Shadow's way as they go by each other. It's of approval, really. Approval for a number of reasons.]

Sonic definitely seems to be... surprisingly okay with this.

Somehow, that makes him feel automatically more relieved, less filled with uncomfortable, distraught feelings creating knots all over his mind and soul. He feels unraveled, like a perfectly knit scarf ready to envelop the other hedgehog's entire being with love and warmth.

[There's that smile again. As they burn through the snow, Sonic is able to see that Shadow seems to, for the moment anyway, have much less of a burden on his back. Just by the way the other hedgehog is able to cut loose while running. And the fact that he's smiling with no effort to conceal it. Just going with the flow.]
