The Train to the Afterlife Meme

Congratulations: You are dead.

Maybe you know how, maybe you don't. Perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. Maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. Or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming - but none of it matters. You know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. Perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. Or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

It'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. Death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. But death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive - or long gone.

Oh look, here comes the snack cart.

All the usual:

• Post with your character's name and canon in the subject line.
• Said character is now dead for whatever reason - canon, AU, what have you. They are on a train with other dead people from many other times, places and worlds.
• Characters don't know for a fact where they're headed - just a general awareness that they're going to some kind of afterlife. Whatever they think it is is up to the player.
• This meme is built especially for cross-canon interaction, and potentially for threadjacking and group threading - if you're interested, may be a good idea to state as much in your subject line.

Had he tried to save her? Had Mista tried too-- had either of them survived? Funny that it'd be a train car that her soul had manifested in, too-- the same sort of train she and the rest of Passione had traveled in while fleeing Diavolo. The seats are even the same fabric, Trish thinks, taking in her surroundings. The familiarity of it, coupled with the intense emotion of, well, dying, is almost too much.

Alone and lost, her thoughts racing, Trish Una pulls her knees up to her chest and cries, sobs echoing through the empty train car.]

Dave stood by and watched Tsukiyama Shuu kill a little girl with a bow in her hair, and all he's felt since then is tired, the kind of giddy, incredulous bone-weariness as fragile as a soap bubble. As transitory. He feels like he might vanish at any moment, but he doesn't want to worry the others, and they've won, so he laughs when they find his skateboard nosing the ceiling and he chatters at the priest guy and his illicit boyfriend and he lets Allie hold his hand when they find the sunlight, even though his is trembling.

He steps onto grass for the first time in three years and eight weeks and feels the light along his upturned face. He feels the breeze in his hair, recognizes the smell of dirt, and a laugh bubbles out of him even as his eyes brim over, as he turns to smile at Allie--

Because he wants it to be the last thing she sees on his face as he fades away.

He's not totally sure what he expected, but a train's just enough out of left field for him to be perplexed but still trite enough not to surprise him. His hand tightens, but Allie's gone. That's how it should be, he knows, but he feels lonesome all the same. Hopefully Hutch will take care of her. Hopefully they'll all take care of each other, now.

Hopefully someone trips Tsukiyama into a ditch or something. He looks out the window and idly wonders if he can slip out somehow and return to haunt him. That'd show him. Yeah. Dave has definitely not had his fill of petty revenge, surely that's enough motivation to get him a ticket back.

But he just lets his head clunk gently against the glass. He's still tired, which is sort of unfair. Like, he's dead, why should he feel anything? But that must be why they say, 'Rest in peace.'

He wonders why he's on a train when the other ghosts were trapped in the hotel.

In an unconscious habit he's picked up over the last couple weeks, his hand travels up to the magatama around his neck. He doesn't play anything on it--he doesn't even look at it--he just covers it with his hand to let it absorb his warmth.]

I literally made this account as a joke, but... what is my life. Where are these feels coming from.

[In a place built for people with Souls, the Gaster Blaster is honestly uncertain how it got here in the first place. Well, yes and no. No, because it is pretty sure that it lacks a Soul of its own, and, yes, perhaps, because it is tied to Sans.

[When it notices where it is, its eye lights shrink and flicker uncertainly, its fanged, rictus grin chittering and clicking uncertainly.

[And then even more when it notices its dear Master with it. It.. it had one job: all it had to do was work in tandem with the other Blasters and attacks in order to make sure that that once-human never came back.

[And it failed at that. No matter how many times they succeeded at first, it held itself to a high standard that probably would make Master Papyrus proud.

[...But, at least Master was never alone, no matter how agonizing it was for them to be separated from Papyrus. It snuffles quietly at him, drifting closer in order to make sure it has Sans's attention. Its eye lights are bright and wide to hide its nervousness over its surroundings.
