The one thing he enjoyed more than anything was reading by a warm fire. It was soothing in a way nothing else could be. Training, fighting, hunting was cathartic. This was comforting, calming.

Jace didn't share his likes as much as his dislikes. Everyone knew what he disliked as he was open to sharing that part of himself anytime. But this part of himself he never shared with anyone. They all knew he enjoyed reading, he owned many books that never went into the main library. They just never actually saw him reading outside of research. But this book was particularly enjoyable and he was glad to have a moment to himself to enjoy it.

Pride and Prejudice was so articulately beautiful to read over and over again.

[ Finn isn't sure which is worse: being cold or being stranded, here at this icy outpost on a tiny outer rim planet, their craft's engine having taken a bad hit in an unexpected dogfight with some First Order scouts, knowing that rescue won't come for a day or two at least without precise coordinates. Or which is better: finding a stash of blankets and frozen rations in the smugglers' den they came down nearly on top of, or finding out the blankets aren't quite enough to ward off the cold without sharing body heat under them. Is it wrong to guiltily prefer the necessity of tucking himself in against Poe on one of the narrow bunks in the rec area of the ship? Probably it is. Finn tries to stay brisk and business-like as he piles of blankets over them, stripping off his (Poe's) jacket to make the top layer, but once he's done fussing with the coverings--tucking here, smoothing there--he concedes with a little sigh to the desire to rest his head against Poe's shoulder and soak up as much of his friend's warmth as he can get. Which is a lot. ]

What's your preferred bedtime reading? We've got comm logs and uh... [ Finn pulls out a rustle of paper and squints at it, interrupting himself with a jaw-cracking yawn. ] This looks like a manifesto from some smugglers' haul? Found it with the rations. They are trying to establish themselves as traders, slipping in some mundane life. It isn't settling well with Kylo, a world away from the First Order. Rey is far more suited for this life.

They're waiting for cargo to transfer in the morning, but this has been the coldest night so far. He's irritable, shifting in the makeshift bed on the ship. They need a better ship. He has never had to deal with these kind of living arrangements. Agitated, she shifts in the bed once again not saying a word.]

Ren awoke slowly, his mind warm and sluggish. That, in itself, was unusual. His waking routine generally consisted of a jolt and a lurch, a breathless cry leaving his lips as he sprang awake from whatever nightmare he had been having, the Force roiling heavily within him.

That morning, there was none of that. Instead, there was darkness, a bed far too comfortable to be his own, and a warm body pressed against his. Ah. It wasn't the first time that he had found himself in General Hux's bed, but it was certainly the first he had spent the night there. And against all odds, it felt pleasant. Tentatively peaceful, even, the Force calm within him, darkness prevailing and the pull of the Light almost completely extinguished.

Hux was warm against him. He smelt of clean skin, cologne, and just a hint of sweat, and at that moment, Ren almost liked him. The effect would be ruined, he knew, as soon as the General would wake up and speak, probably demanding he left at once. But for the time being, the feeling lingered. Ren wondered what Snoke would think about it. He wondered what Vader would think about it. It was ill-advised, surely, to form such attachments. It was a weakness, a liability, though he hadn't been entirely unwise in his choice, he thought wryly, of making the General the recipient of such a sentiment. Hux was as far removed from the Light as possible, after all.

Ren sighed quietly, his grip tightening carefully around Hux's body as he leaned in until he could feel hair against his cheek. He did not move after that, deciding to indulge in that strangely-found calm for a while longer.

She didn't want to take over the bed, but she couldn't find a spot that felt right. The woman was used to sleeping on harder surfaces, or even a floor than a bed--especially as one as nice as Poe's. As badly as she didn't want to wake him or startle him, Rey found herself drifting closer until she had her head tucked beneath his chin and one arm over his side.

It felt awkward in the beginning, but she began to relax in his hold and hoped she didn't wake him up.]
