Oi, oi. Kenma- wait up.

[For someone who was content to sit around and play video games all day, Kenma had remarkable speed and a knack for slipping away unnoticed. He wanted to walk him home today, it felt like it's been too long since he had and he was just answering a question Yamato asked him... but when he turned around Kenma was nowhere to be found. And his childhood friend had a knack of getting lost a lot of the time.

But he could spot that pudding hair a mile away, jogging to him his palm reaching to nestle in the two toned hair.]

You need to stop running off like that. [No bite to his tone, just a sigh of relief that he caught up to him in time.]

[Kuroo was taking too long when he was ready to go home and relax from the day. He actually spoke up a bit in class today. He answered a question, went to the board to answer a question, and talked to one of his classmates when they asked him something. Then he spent his time in practice helping Lev, he filled his quota for talking for the day. He wanted to get home or Kuroo's place, he wasn't picky, and get back to his PSP.

When Yamato asked him a question he started walking. Kenma wasn't paying attention to the conversation and he knew Kuroo would keep up. While he did look forward to walking home with Kuroo, it had been awhile since they did it, he didn't feel like waiting. Kenma was thinking of which person to use for the boss when he felt a familiar hand in his hair. He looked up to see him before he looked forward again.]

I didn't go too far this time. You were taking too long. [There wasn't any annoyance in his tone, maybe a little tiredness, but nothing mean.]

There's still so much to work through. There's almost lifetimes of information to catch up on between the two of them, really. It's going to take more time than they've had.

Thankfully (hopefully) time that they will have.

So of course there are nights where they'll have dinner together, or at the very least catch each other long enough to have a cup of tea and work through a little more.

"Tell me a little more about-- how you came to leave home."

Because Narnia is still absolutely home.

It feels like there must be more time now. It feels like they're both breathing with the same quiet sort of certainty into the fact that, for everything taken away or surrendered, this they'll be allowed to have.

It keeps his shoulders relaxed when they can relax into little moments like this, with the slight distraction of a small meal to keep their hearts from becoming too overwhelmed.

"It... was a natural evolution, more than anything. Of what-- they needed."

"I suppose I'm just-- surprised to hear it was an evolution into-- not needing you in any capacity."

Even the development of something more democratic in nature could surely have had some sort of place for him in it.

"...I could have stayed."

It wouldn't have been impossible. He could even have stayed in the Cair, if he'd liked, he suspected. He could have found himself a quiet little space near the sea--on one of the islands, perhaps--and lived out his life watching Narnia thrive.

"But..."

But it had still stung to pull down the Castle of Caspian. It had still been constant little hiccoughs to adjust himself away from the way he had been raised toward not just Narnian tradition but a new Narnia entirely.

"...it wasn't really-- mine."

The nod comes after a moment's thought and a sip of her tea.

"I suppose that-- makes sense."
