☽✩ the werewolf pack (au) romance meme ✩☾

There are many supernatural beings that congregate in groups for survival or protection or just for companionship, not unlike humans. Witches have covens. Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack.
You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness.
After all, you'll fight for your pack, so you'll fight for your mate, won't you?

✩ prompts ✩
☽ Born: Your parents were werewolves. Any children you have will be wolves, too. ☾ The Turning Process: Like any transformation, the after effects of the bite are painful. Luckily ☽ With Who Turned You: You're romantically or sexually linked to your "creator," so to speak, probably because you have nowhere else to go. They seem to treasure you, though, no matter how much they hide it. ☾ Alphas: Both of you are top of the pack. ☽ Alpha and Beta: It's a classic case of the leader and the second in command: a perfect team up. ☾ Omegas: You two find solace in each other even when you're ☽ Closer Than Family: The romantic and platonic lines are blurred. You honestly can't ☾ Outside Threat: Your pack and your loved one is threatened. What won't you do? ☽ Reluctant: You don't want to be with anyone, but it's expected and they're the closest in the pack to you... ☾ All I've Ever Known: All you've ever known is the werewolf existence, the pack, and them. Of course you would never want to lose that. ☽ Can't be Together: You two should not be considering a potential pairing, either due to your status difference or because your alpha has proclaimed there will be no inter-pack mingling. ☾ Everyone Else Was Taken: You had no other option; everyone else was paired. ☽ Protector: Every pack has an instinctive protector or nurturer. You've lucked out and ended up with them. ☾ A Natural Closeness: It doesn't matter to you what you're defined as. You've always been close and you'll stay that way. ☽ Affection: Werewolves show their love in different ways that humans. Nuzzling and licking aren't considered odd at all. ☾ Fall into Step: The two of you have your pack positions and proclivities and they're the same in your relationship. ☽ Reverse: The submissive in the pack becomes a dominant in the relationship and vice versa. ☾ Two-Man Pack: The rest of your pack is gone, and you two have to stick it out. ☽ Rogue: You were once a lone wolf, but a special person brought you into the fold. Understandably, you're attached to them. ☾ Kin but Not: "Family" doesn't mean exactly the same thing in werewolf society as it does in human. There are fewer taboos between "siblings." ☽ Disciplined: You're a rule breaker, and your partner has to reel you in. ☾ Living Straight: Neither of you wants to hurt humans...yet there's always that urge. ☽ Bad Duo: Killing people and raising hell are your specialties. You're a real supernatural Bonnie and Clyde. ☾ Unrequited: Even werewolves can have feelings that aren't returned. However, it's an even more fragile scenario, given that you must still be pack after this. ☽ Got Your Back: Together, you hunt and fight. Always together. ☾ Love Outside the Pack: You've found love outside the pack, which is the ultimate sin. Everyone who isn't pack should be your enemy! The other person in this thread can be a human, vampire, etc. ☽ Life Mates: Wolves mate for life. Needless to say, this is not something you should go into lightly. ☾ Heat: The obligatory smut option. ☽ Fight for the One: Someone wants to challenge you for your mate. There's no question as to whether or not you'll fight for them - but will you kill? ☾ Leave: One of you wants to leave the pack. Will the other come along, or are ties too strong? ☽ A Brutal End: The life of a werewolf, especially those who let sentiment cloud their judgement, can be painfully brief. ☾ WILDCARD |

Let's call it a cocktail of werewolfy feelings coming your way.
Sighing, she walked along the perimeter of the base camp, leaving the boundaries of their territory and heading further into the surrounding woods. That was what she had been and what she was now...? She wasn't sure how it had happened that she'd changed so much. At first she'd thought it had been the wolf in her that had had helped her kill so efficiently, but since finding herself here, with them... she had time to actually try to figure out what she was. Where she fit in. And the wolf? The wolf wasn't some bloodthirsty beast out for blood. That was the human part of her, through and through. The wolf had, surprisingly, been why she'd found herself here. Why she'd been drawn to these people, this cause of theirs. Maybe it was an attempt at redemption, maybe she was just tired of being the outsider all the time, but... she almost felt at home here.
Almost. There were still other things she had to figure out completely, like her strange fascination with her new alpha. Captain America. Steve freakin' Rogers. Made, like her, but not twisted and used for the purpose of others. He was... well, he was his own creation. He'd defied those around him and made himself who he was. He had his own path and that sense of rightness, that aura he had drew others to him like a moth to a flame. Bees to honey. Wolves to an alpha. He spoke with quiet conviction and people listened. He sang in the night, muzzle lifted to call to his pack, and he was heard.
And she couldn't stop feeling this urge to stay by his side. Be his right hand. His second. His--
She cut herself off, letting out a curse in Russian as she leaned against a tree. She was just mixing up her feelings, that was all. She was grateful to him. He'd offered her a place when she didn't deserve it, shown her trust when she hadn't earned it. She felt a need to make him not regret that decision. She was grateful, that was all. She just... hadn't been grateful to anyone before. Not like this. She knew better than to let feelings dance where they shouldn't. She'd been trained to know better.
And still...]

He was the hunter, never the hunted. No one knew how he worked, because he wasn't surrounded by others who could have learned his methods. He's let go of most of his humanity and let the beastly nature of his killer instincts take over. Nate was the only other being he confided his true nature with.
He rarely sees his partner. That being said, he never cared for how Nate decided to carry out his vigilantism. Whether it be the god-tier catastrophes or hunting along with him, he was his own man. And in that case, they're killing two birds with one stone. Nate was always very silent and secretive about his objectives, solely for this purpose. Frank has always somehow crossed other's missions without knowing so. He often crossed SHIELD and the Avengers, and wondered if they ever got anything done. At least he saw results from Nate's work. All he sees arising from SHIELD were more problems. Nick Fury's always looked at Frank as expendable, but also as a potential recruit; as if he could direct his wildness for something "better". That's where Frank took offense. Nothing is "better".
Catching wind of Nate's whereabouts was a rare treat for him. After the events of Sokovia, Nate had probably still been around in Europe. Frank here had been tracking down his marks in Ukraine, which in turn had collided with yet another SHIELD mission. That night, as well, Frank had smelled like smoke, though he'd looked like he had swum to his mark. His clothes had been stuck to his body, with red patches where red patches shouldn’t be. He found Nate because it's exactly where he would be if he were going to snipe someone, as well as sensing him near, something familiar in a place he's never been before.
"You're alive." Frank spoke quietly, surprised to see the other doing well. He approached the other, gaze distant as he looks down onto the dotting lights of the city below, hiking his own firearm on his back.
((I have awful timing, just punch me. Also, if you prefer bracket, I can definitely change to that.))

Nate had been a lone wolf for most of his life. Forced into one pack after his parents' death and then let out on his own. Using all of his skills to hunt and kill targets he was assigned. There was a time when Nate probably would have been one of Frank's marks. But since joining SHIELD and then the Avengers, he's clearly changed his ways. Mostly.
Being with Frank was... interesting. Especially because they were rarely together. Even when they ended up in the same proximity, it was never for very long. Sometimes just enough to know the other was okay. And Nate was okay with that. So he thought.
By now... it was getting pretty lonely and coming down to a difficult choice being made. Not that he had a lot of time to think about it with all the shit going on in one part of the world or another. Smelling Frank before he sees him, Nate looks over at him when he speaks. His expression softening somewhat, like it usually did when he saw the other wolf.
"So are you." He gives him a once over before looking back out along the streets he's been watching.
"Better patch up. Blood loss will slow you down."
no subject
"It won't, it's already patched up. Just bleeding through." he says shortly, his lips forming a thin line as he takes his place beside him. He knows it's best if he just leaves. It would make things easier for the both of them. Nate shouldn't have to stay where he can always see him. He's grown, and he can take care of himself. Nate's trying to work, and it normally doesn't spell good news out for the both of them. Frank respects Nate's decision in being an Avenger, but that probably comes with a whole new set of rules between them.
But Frank wants him there, wants so many things. He wants to chase away that haunted look usually plastered on his partner's face, he wants to see Nate's lips curve into smiling more often. He wants so many things, wants to give them to him. He exhales heavily, thinking about the choice of his next words. There's no 'Stay with me', the closest thing to being together for a long period of time is, "We should hunt. When you're free." Frank says as he catches his breath, driving the point home, wanting Nate to remember and know, that he's still very much attached to the other.
no subject
"Shitty patch job, then." He says it dryly, knowing he's pretty much the only one that could get away with saying that.
He wants to look over at him. Wants to get him out of those clothes and dress each wound like it should be. But he can't. They weren't ever going to have that. Not as they were.
At the suggestion of them hunting, he does look over, almost smiling but it was... the sad sort of smile. Because he was still attached to the other and that's what made this hurt so damn much.
"I'd like that."

MiladyAnne* is a witch who got bitten by some other wolf, by ~accident, and Remus is helping her adjust?]*Milady is more her 'bad girl'/'evil' persona, and Anne is more her good one, at least the way i read/view and play her.

Re: Remus Lupin | Harry Potter | OTA
Indeed, easy enough and a common link is good. *ponders* Either James noticed her when she came back looking paler and withdrawn after she got bit over a break (summer, Christmas, or Easter, any works for me) and figured it out and introduced her to Rem or Dumbledore pointed her in Remus' direction, quietly and secretly? Gah, I need a young FC, even this icon looks too old for this plot and this is the lightest/brightest/softest icon I have...]
