MORE THAN JUST A JOB

It's only business, nothing personal...at least, that's how it started. You were pegged as the right one for a job that involves this person; your task could be positive, such as protecting them with their consent or without it, guiding them from point a to point b, and the like - or, as seedier transactions tend to go, it could be negative. You have to take them back to a place they really don't want to return to, you have to be a jailor, or you even have to be their assassin. At the very least, helping or hurting, you'll be compensated generously (by money or, you know, by not being killed off). And that was all that mattered.

Until they mattered.

They could have shown you something you never knew existed in the world or in yourself. They could have done any number of things, yet they've won you and your feelings over. Your priorities just may shift because of this, but will their view of you do the same as soon as they learn why you were around them in the first place? For your own gain? Will they be able to forgive you?

Even if they can, will they be able to see you the way you see them?

They'd managed to finish the job, mostly, recovering the stolen information, and making sure the leak in the supply line for the Rebellion was plugged. It had been a close one, and it had reminded Luke, all too many times, how easily it would be for one of them to die. And that kept reminding him that he felt for her, well, a lot more than just like, and comraderie.

When they were relaxing after, waiting for their morning clearance to get off the rockball planet they were on, Luke found himself turning to Leia, in the quarters they had been forced to share, and swallowing. "I... you were amazing out there."

Good, Luke, really. Just come out and be honest. "I mean, really good."

John was curious when he was hired, then amused when he read the job description. He had never been hired to protect an artificial life form before. Or one who could well protect him in turn.

Maybe better. But her friends were pulling a job she couldn't go on, and that meant they wanted her taken care of.

So here John was, knocking on her door, or the door of the apartment holding in Sirius Station where she was staying.

Android was equally puzzled by the situation. On the one hand, the crew had been on many away missions, and she'd always stayed with the ship. On the other, they did rely on her quite heavily for maintenance, navigation, and many other necessary functions. If she were ever to be seriously damaged, it would place an even greater strain on both the ship and her crew.

Still...she felt strangely hesitant as she stood to answer the door. If she were human, she might have even said that she felt...nervous.

"Hello," she said, extending her hand to the new hire somewhat stiffly. "You must be John Carter." As far as introductions went, it could only get more awkward from there.
