Holding his, still, flaccid dick in hand Pepper lifted her gaze to meet his. "We all have performance issues sometimes, baby," Not that she had ever had a problem, but, hey, that's neither here nor there. A wry smirk crossed her lips as she leaned in to plant a kiss on his cheek.

They had been going at it for a while now, but it seemed like no matter what they tried he just couldn't get it up. It was hard not to find it somewhat amusing since he was the infamous Tony Stark. "Maybe," She started, biting her lip to keep from chuckling. "maybe it's time for a tune up. I'm sure you've exceeded your mileage."

Withdrawing her hand she gave him a pat on the chest. It's not like he'd been stingy about having sex before, and that most definitely hadn't changed after they'd become an item.

He held her gaze-- until she had the audacity to say that to him, and instantly he dropped his head back against the pillows, fixated by the ceiling because this definitely, could not be happening to him.

Tony felt sure that Pepper was making light of things to try and relieve the tension, and maybe she really didn't care that he was experiencing trouble - but he did. Of course he did. Jokes about mileage aside, this was just another indicator that maybe... just maybe the Palladium core of the reactor was going to mean the death of him.

How could he ever be ready for that?

Pepper was still trying hard not to laugh, and turning his attention on her was clearly the next best thing. Without a word he grabbed her by the wrist, tugging until she fell on top of him.

"I've been tuned up plenty, recently." He muttered at her, slipping his hand away from her wrist to thread their fingers together.

As soon as she had said it she felt a small pang of regret. It's not enough to make her apologize ( not by any means ~~sorry~~! ) but she does feel a bit bad. Still, she smiles, because it hadn't been anything more than a ~~terrible~~ joke. She was trying ( and failing, apparently ) to ease the tension that had arose about five to ten minutes ago when they both had realized something wasn't right.

"Unf." Briefly, her eyes widen, but when she's resting against his chest her expression softens enough that she smiles and kisses the butt of his chin. "Or maybe I'm just a little rusty." Look, she's going to take a share of the blame. "How about we mix things up tonight; do something new."

[Ask for prefs, please.]

[ To say it's been a long and confusing year would be an understatement--boy has it been! But it's also been, somehow, one of the best years of her life. Sometimes it feels a little selfish to think that way when she knows that people died, but in the end, they were able to use their abilities and save even more people from suffering the same fate. That's what mattered, didn't it?

It wasn't just the case, though. They made some great friends--life-lasting relationships, she believed--and were able to come to terms with parts of themselves that have plagued them for a while, subconsciously or otherwise. Yukiko had resented the idea that she would take over the inn, making the people around her feel like such a burden for too long. With her revived interest and determination, she was finally motivated again and comfortable in her position. The town itself seemed to feel that way, too, and she could only thank her friends for helping her through it.

Of course, she's closer to some. Chie has been her friend since they were children, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that she's found herself having grown even closer over the past year. And...there's still room to go, right?

The final bell for the day rings--they're finally in their senior year. Entrance exams seem to be perpetually on the horizon. Yukiko still likes the idea of getting some degree in order to help her run the inn successfully, but it's no longer a ticket to get out. She wants to do her best to keep it alive and give something back to this town.

She as she collects her notebooks and slides them back into her bag, Yukiko turns around in her chair. Chie always seems to be at her back. It's a comfort Yukiko thinks she can afford. She just feels...safer? Better, knowing that she's there. It brings a little warmth to her heart that's been steadily growing over time. ]

Well, it's finally the weekend.

[It's weird to think of the past year-- in which people died, the world came close to vanishing into fog, and Chie had to kick a table in its face, which it shouldn't even really have-- as a good year, in retrospect. But it has been. It absolutely has been. She's made friends, dear ones; she's found some direction in life. She's become close with Yu, the underclassmen and Yosuke... and grown closer to Yukiko.

With their friend back in the big city and the case finally over, Chie finds herself with a lot of restless energy that she has nothing to do with. Her thoughts are scattered; even with her direction more solidified and her goals more clear, getting there is hard on its own. She keeps thinking about everything.

She keeps thinking about someone in particular.

When had it been that she'd realized how she felt? She's not even sure. But at some point in the past year, Chie had realized that the reasons she thought about Yukiko all day were not entirely platonic. Her thoughts turned more... intimate at times, so to speak.

But Yukiko is Yukiko. The beauty that all the boys in the school like. Chie knows she's just one more admirer in the end, isn't she?

Chie yawns, stretching her arms over her head; class always makes her so sleepy.] Finally! Ugh, I swear I'm not going to even think about my textbooks for a whole day!

Doing anything this weekend or the same old same old?

[ Yukiko smiles at that. Chie has never been that excited about school work and really, no one can blame her. Yukiko doesn't hold her same resentment, but she isn't exactly thrilled about it either. She just happens to be good at it and is always more than happy to lend an ear or study with her. Though, the last time they studied they ended up spending more time talking and laughing. She's not upset with that, either.

Chie has her own batch of followers, though Yukiko has always been a little oblivious to such things. It makes her own feelings a lot more easy to recognize. She smiles, pulling her bag into her lap. ]

Actually...I was going to ask you the same thing. My mother's been insisting that I take a break, so I've got tonight and most of tomorrow off.

[ Yukiko has been spending a lot of time at the inn at nights and on weekends. ]

Do you have any plans?

Huh? [Chie's vaguely surprised by Yukiko's answer-- her friend is always so busy with her responsibilities-- and it takes her a moment before answering with a sheepish wave.] Who, me? Oh, no, nothing at all. You know, just gonna... haha, curl up with some ramen and the TV for a bit-- they're running a marathon of all four of the Ultra Dragon Kick movies! [Chie brightens at the thought.]

But... um, if you're free, we should totally do something! We could hang out at Junes, or go to Okina City if you wanted to... go there. [Chie laughs.] Geez, I'm really not that good at planning that sorta thing, sorry.

Did you have anything in mind, Yukiko?

[ In all honesty, Yukiko never had much of a fondness for Kung Fu movies, at least originally. Maybe she's watched so many with Chie now that it's by association alone if one comes on while she's surfing channels after a long night that she will pause on some high-kicking action.

Still, she smiles at the suggestions. ]

Ohh, Okina City? It's been a while since we've been there. Or since I've been there, at least. We should go on an adventure!

Haha yeah, an adventure! Let's totally just go someplace we've never been before and find our way back, right? [She grins, pumping her fist in the air exaggeratedly. An adventure... wouldn't that be nice? It feels like their lives have been a little lacking in adventure since the end of the case.]

It's probably a little too chilly still to head to the beach, though. [A little sigh.] Okina's probably our best bet... ah well, it's a date! [She says casually, not even thinking about the other potential definition of the term. Why would she? Yukiko's her best friend.]

Hey, are you doing anything right now? Want to walk home together?

[ Lacking adventure? It definitely feels that way. Not that there's anything wrong with life going back to it's normal, day in and day out state, but they need to get a little excited every once in a while, don't they? And besides, Yukiko has a lot of fun when it's just the two of them. She loves their other friends, but what she and Chie have is special.

Sometimes she just...wonders how special it could be.

When Chie says "it's a date", she can feel her heart skip a beat. It's just a turn of phrase, but it's hard not to feel that little jump of thrill in her stomach at the idea. ]

Yes! [ She gives a small laugh and a nod. ] It's a date.

[ Okay, maybe she just wants to say it herself. ]

Let's do that. I've been rushing home a lot, so it will be nice to just walk for a while.

[ She moves to stand, dragging her bag with her. Yosuke seems to finally wake up from his nap with the motion. ]

Have a good weekend, Yosuke-kun.

[ You are decidedly not invited on their walk. ]

[There's something in the way that Yukiko says 'it's a date' that makes Chie stop and think, because it does sound... different. Different than when she'd said it herself. Is there any way that...

Nah, of course not. She's just getting her hopes up for no reason.

Chie leaps to her feet, grabbing her bookbag and slinging it over one shoulder.] See ya, Yosuke! [Exactly. No Yosukes allowed.

It's crowded as all the students are leaving Yasogami, but somehow they make their way down to the lockers, where Chie starts putting on her sneakers.] Do you wanna take the long route? And go down by the Samegawa?

We haven't been down that way in a while.

[ Yosuke is decidedly more perceptive than people give him credit for, so despite the surprise of his sudden wakefulness, he doesn't seem put off by them ditching him fairly quickly. Maybe he knows something they don't...

She says goodbye to other students as they pass by, but doesn't try to initiate any real conversation. Yukiko has always been a little withdrawn, the more boisterous Chie making up for many of her social shortcomings. She's learned and become more comfortable, however, and is finding it easier to make friends.

Yukiko is carefully putting her shoes back into her shoe locker when she pauses at Chie's suggestion. ]

We haven't. Clearly that should be fixed. [ She nods with a smile as she places her slip-ons down on the floor mats, stepping into them easily. She taps the toe on the floor to secure them each in place. ]

It's so pretty this time of year, too. So yes, let's!

Great! [Chie flashes Yukiko a toothy grin, standing up and stretching her arms over her head, leaning from one side and then to the other, loosening up.] Oh man, you're right! The cherry blossoms are going to be out soon, huh? Maybe I should train down there next time... it'll be like it's out of a movie!

[And out of the Yasogami gates they go, taking the path down to the walking paths that line the shore of the river.

It's nostalgic.] Haha... hey Yukiko, remember when we were little and we'd just walk down this way and look at the cherry blossoms? [They'd held hands all the time then.

She glances at Yukiko's hand, but only for a moment. Better not.]

Oh, like one of those scenes where the hero is learning from his master at the secret temple?

[ Chie, you're rubbing off on her.

The spring has always been one of Yukiko's favorite times of year. She obviously had a little aversion to the snow, or she used to before accepting the fact that it wasn't a reflection on her, or her on it. But in the spring, the temperature is just right. You're not too hot or too cold, the sun peaks out without being overwhelming, and you can do pleasant things like take walks along the riverbed. It's pleasant.

Yukiko is happy to take her usual place at Chie's side as they make their way down to the riverbed, holding her bag in front of her. The little bit of sun is enough to warm her. This is one of the nicer parts of living out in the country--nature is all around you.

And it is nostalgic. ]

Mmhmm. Of course I do. [ She looks up towards the trees as their branches hang overhead, shifting her bag to one hand and letting the other fall to her side. ] I remember I told you once that I wished my parents had named me after the cherry blossoms because they were so much nicer than snow. But you said you liked "Yukiko" better.

Aw, yeah, exactly! Hey, you're learning! [Chie can't help but laugh at that, hearing Yukiko talk about the tropes and plot devices in the movies she loves. It's a rush, it goes to her head a little... and she darts forward, grabbing Yukiko's hand without thinking and pulling her off the pavement onto the gentle green slope of the riverbank.] Come on, let's walk down here! It's more in the sun!

[Though it is steep. And a little muddy. Watch your footing!]

I still like 'Yukiko' better. Don't get me wrong, 'Sakura' is cute too, but... you're Yukiko. I can't think of you as anything else!

[ Her smile returns almost instantaneously when Chie takes her hand and she doesn't hesitate as they move off the path and onto the grass. It's less conventional than taking the stairs, for sure, but Chie always has a knack for finding the more exciting routes to their final destination. Yukiko likes that about her.

She'll be careful! It's clearly still a little damp from the spring shower earlier, but it is bright and sunny now. She can still feel the grass squish a bit underneath her shoes. ]

That's why I stopped wishing for that. I started to like my name a lot more because of you.

Ahhh, the sun... spring is so nice. [She sighs, happily, as they come closer to the water, and the sun peeks out from behind the clouds. She closes her eyes and lets the sun's warmth hit her face before she opens them, turning back to Yukiko. She squeezes her hand.] Haha, I'm glad!

...that makes us even, then. I like a lot more about me, too. [Because of you. It goes unspoken.]

It really is. Everything just comes back to life after winter.

[ Yes, Yukiko has always preferred the spring. The fact that Chie hasn't let go of her hand doesn't register until the other girl gives it a squeeze. She turns to look at the shorter girl, meeting her gaze. ]

We've been through a lot this past year, huh? [ An understatement, perhaps. It's been longer than a year, but Chie will know what she's referring to. ] I'm glad you were there with me. I don't know if I would've been able to handle it all without you.

Aw, stop it. You're gonna make me blush! [Chie laughs, but the reality is that her heart does skip a little beat, with Yukiko talking about how much she relies on her. The other version of her that she'd confronted-- her own Shadow-- had been a twisted, perverse version of her wishes, but she'd ultimately accepted those desires, or the healthy versions of them at least, as part of her. She liked being the one Yukiko could rely on, the one she could lean on.] I mean, sure you could've! I don't know if you've noticed, but you can handle a lot, right?

Buuuut. I am pretty glad we got to face it together.

[Without even noticing it, she laces her fingers with Yukiko. It's oddly intimate, and her heart is starting to beat faster.]

[ Similarly, Yukiko has accepted that she can enjoy having Chie around, being able to count on her, without having to rely on the other girl to fight all her battles. It had taken a while, but after spending time with Yu, she began to realize that maybe there was some more truth in her time in the Shadow World as well. Chie had always been her Prince.

There...might be a reason for that. ]

I can definitely handle a lot more now. Thanks to you.

[ She nods at that, feeling a little proud. She's more comfortable with herself, more assured of her place in things and path in life. But there are still a few loose ends.

When she feels Chie's fingers intertwine with hers, Yukiko can't help the bit of heat that rises to her cheeks. She doesn't look down, but she does giggle a little, turning her gaze out to the river. ]

You know...I spent a lot of time here with Yu-kun. And he helped me realize something.

He did? I mean, you did? [She says, glancing over at Yukiko before following her gaze out to the river, watching the water flow high and fast with all the melted snow from the mountains.

What could Yukiko be talking about? They're usually pretty good at telling each other everything, so what might she have realized by talking with Yu?

They're not secretly dating, are they? Chie can't help but get a little nervous.] What did you realize?

[ She nods, a bemused expression sitting on her face, still. Yu's arrival to Inaba had started a chain reaction of events that changed things for all of them, but he'd been a good friend throughout it all as well. Chie had been the person Yukiko felt closest to for so long, sometimes it was difficult for her to have things she wasn't sure she could share with the other girl, things she needed to figure out for herself.

But Yu had been a sounding board for that and taught her a few things along the way. Her feelings had been projected onto him for a while until she began to realize that it wasn't him she was really thinking about. ]

You remember...? [ Yukiko exhales, a little embarrassed. ] Of course you remember...my appearance on the midnight channel, the things my Shadow said--they were so embarrassing. But...they were true. Not just about my family and the inn, but I think...I really was looking for my Prince Charming.

[ Cue some nervous laughter. ]

I-It feels so silly to say it out loud!

[ Oh boy. Are her palms sweaty? She hopes not. ]

Yu-kun and I talked about it a bit and...at first I thought it was him.

[Chie listens to Yukiko speak, trying to figure out what she's getting at and getting nowhere at all. Of course she remembers what Yukiko (or rather, her Shadow) had been like on the Midnight Channel. It's not for the first time that she feels rather grateful that her own Shadow was never active long enough-- nor at the right times-- to produce her own broadcast.

Her heart begins to sink. Is Yukiko really going to confess that? That she's in love with Yu? Of course, Chie knows, on every level she should be happy, even delighted, for her best friend finding romance, but there's a part of the idea that makes something hurt in her chest.] Well... yeah, who can blame you for thinking that?

He's a really great guy. [There's a lump in her throat.] Are you going to go visit him in the city? Or, um, maybe a more long-distance thing, or...

Hm?

[ He is a great guy, she agrees, and perhaps that would be a vein she'd be more interested in following if not for some other much more important factors. She doesn't realize how Chie is taking what she said immediately, but when she does, Yukiko shakes her head, placing her schoolbag down and waves her free hand.

She really doesn't want to let go of Chie's. ]

Oh, no! No, no, no, no.

[ And...there it is. She's laughing. Not entirely in a cackling fit, but maybe it's a mixture of the thought of being in a long-distance relationship with Yu and the butterflies in her stomach at what she's about to say. ]

Chie! [ Okay, give her a minute. ] N-no, it's not him. He helped me realize what I'd been feeling all this time...I just wasn't able to recognize it when I was so wrapped up in my own sense of obligation to the inn. I was so...adamant about leaving Inaba, no matter the consequences. But I would be leaving something behind even if that's what I thought I wanted to do in the end. I thought the rush I felt was because I was with him, but...

[ Alright, here she goes...she reaches out, taking Chie's other hand in her own, her blush very apparent now. She's a little nervous. ]

...We were always talking about you. [ Yukiko smiles. ] You're my Prince Charming, Chie.

[She's really not expecting Yukiko's reaction to her question to be... laughter. So when Yukiko not only denies what she's said but then bursts out laughing, Chie is left absolutely flummoxed.] Eh? What's so-- Yukiko! [She says, beginning to feel heat rise to her face, because apparently she's said something really, really dumb.

Luckily, this isn't one of Yukiko's laughing fits; she's good at recognizing them before they start. And it's not long before her friend straightens up, though she's still got tears of laughter in her eyes.

Chie gets an odd feeling in her stomach the more Yukiko speaks, because if not Yu, then who? And then she drops that bomb, and Chie can instantly feel her face go warm, her brown eyes widening instantly.

She barely even notices that Yukiko has taken her other hand.] Me?

You mean... like when we were kids? You always called me your prince then too, but... [But that's different, and Chie knows it. But she cannot possibly wrap her head around the things that Yukiko is telling her.]

[ She said it. She said it! She said the thing that's been slowly creeping forward from her subconscious, up from her heart and into her working mind. Chie has always been special, always been there for her, and Yukiko has always been happiest when she's with the other girl. Of course you're happy when you're with your best friend, but after making so many new friends over the past year, Chie still stood out, just in ways she didn't expect.

To Chie's question, Yukiko feels like she's about to laugh again, a little light-headed. There are butterflies in her stomach and the fact that Chie hasn't right out--well, no, she doesn't think Chie ever would just leave her hanging like that, but there's still a lot of factors to consider. Confessions are always easy in fairytales, not full of the giggling and sweaty palms she's sure she's showing right now.

Yukiko shakes her head. ]

Maybe I always knew back then, but...you're really special to me, Chie. I...I like like you.

[Hang on. Chie's brain needs time to process this.

Nope, she can't do it. She's staring at Yukiko, pretty sure she's slack-jawed, her eyes wide. Yukiko likes her. Yukiko likes likes her. This is what it's come to, after all their time together, all their friendship, all their inner demons.

Her brain can't help but flash back to the first time she'd heard about the 'Amagi Challenge' and how furious she'd been. Does this count as winning it?

Her cheeks are turning a furious shade of red.] Oh my god.

[There could have been a better thing for her to respond with, but her brain isn't functioning right now.]

[ The big bomb drop. Yukiko can finally breathe.

Except...there isn't any loving background music, or birds chirping, or--or any that poetic, cinematic nonsense. There's just Yukiko and Chie standing by the river, holding hands and--waiting.

She's waiting, her heart pounding and all Chie says is "Oh my god".

Oh my god?

Good oh my god or oh my god I can't believe you think that way Yukiko I'm sorry but we're just friends-- ]

O-oh, um...

[ It's the latter, isn't it? She'd been setting herself up for this all along. Yukiko hadn't planned on confessing today, precisely, but with their walk alone and weekend ahead of them, the way Chie pulled her along and brought her down to the riverbed, it just seemed so...perfect.

But this isn't a story, is it? It's life and girls don't always like other girls. She knows that none of them judge each other for that kind of thing, but that's still been a factor.

Yukiko laughs nervously, her face growing redder from embarrassment. ]

I--...I'm sorry. I should have asked you before I said anything...Um...I should...

[She sees the look on Yukiko's face change, and hears that nervousness in her voice, and Chie suddenly realizes how what she'd said had come across. She shakes her head, quickly and vigorously, trying to deny whatever Yukiko's thinking as emphatically as she can.] No! I mean-- Yukiko, I mean--! [She stumbles over her words. How can she possibly get them out?

Suddenly, the words pour out of her in a rush.] S-so, when we confronted our Shadows, right? It made me think about how... how I was jealous of you, being so pretty and graceful and everything and having all the guys liking you. Only-- only I wasn't. [She winces.] Okay, I was, maybe a little.

But... the more I thought about it, that wasn't what really bugged me. What really bugged me was, [Her breath catches in her throat and for a moment she can't speak] I think... I wanted you for myself.

Yukiko, I like you. I like like you. [She swallows a breath, a nervous, shaky smile on her face.] ...too?

It was hard to call this a relationship. The Huntress was in town tracking a hit man who'd made a run for the newly formed power vacuum in Hell's Kitchen after failing to climb Gotham's criminal underworld. The man she'd ended up working with- fighting alongside. He'd proven himself trustworthy- their lives had been in each other's hand several times by now.

And, despite the fact that he was in a devil-horned cowl and she had a giant cross on her chest, there was... chemistry. She trusted him- admittedly, the fact that those were devil horns on his mask and not stylized pointed ears really helped in that department. There was temptation she really wanted to give in to, here. But there were mistakes she didn't want to make again.

"Okay," she said, one night, on a rooftop that gave them both safety and privacy after taking down a small gang of suspiciously well-armed drug dealers.

"There's some stuff about me you need to know. Deserve to know."

The sharp, metallic tang of blood from a handful of injuries intermixed with sweat, leather and a perfume understated and tasteful enough it had to be expensive. Her heartbeat had slowed since the adrenaline spike of the fight, but now it was rising again. Anxiety.

She didn't know that this man may very well already know what she was about to tell him. She'd been attending Mass regularly during her time here. She hadn't talked much with other parishioners, but there was talk about her, spoken in harsh whispers she'd long ago learned to pretend not to hear.
