I would like to see more obscure characters tagging out and more people tagging obscure characters.

Amen to that.

I totally haven't seen you around in a thread I've been interested in, so I have NO CLUE if you do this or not, but--

It REALLY helps in tagging an obscure character if you have information, not just on the character itself but on your personal playing preferences-- if not on your profile then in the thread itself, or a set up post or something.

I ADORE tagging obscure characters, but I also like knowing more or less what I'm in for, so I find that really helpful.

[personal profile] dogstreetbrawler 2012-07-04 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
This is actually not a character I play too often XD so you probably haven't seen him. But most of the time if I know a character is obscure, I will put some general character information in their profile, just because I know people won't know who they are XD

I try not to get TOO wordy, just do the nitty gritty.

Sion here is in the process of being reworked, so his profile is admittedly VERY barebones at the moment. None of my obscure characters have blank profiles though. I ALWAYS make sure there's something there.

I know how annoying it is to see a character I'm unfamiliar with, click to look at their profile, and then see NOTHING, not even a wiki link.

I had a feeling I was probably "preaching to the choir" as it were with you, but it's a good reminder for others, I think.

It kind of sucks that more obscure characters and OCs have to work harder for it than characters that are more popular, but that's kind of the nature of the game, unfortunately.

(I solve this by playing both really obscure characters and fairly popular ones. :D)

It helps to have a hook. The meme trend of blank comments save for character name and canon in the subject field is pretty brutal in that regard, because there's nothing to catch the interest of anyone who's not familiar with the canon or the player. If the original commenter scene-setting became a little more common, that'd probably help with the difficulty of getting tags on an obscure character.

...To a point, anyways. There's always going to be the shiny factor.

[personal profile] dogstreetbrawler 2012-07-05 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I completely agree with you. And I am ALL for more people doing set up posts. Even for popular characters, it just gives the character something to reply to without diving in completely blind. But there's a reason why memes that require a set up post generally have far far fewer tags then any other. RPers are a lazy folk. It seems fewer people even browse for good tags to reply to on these as well.

And on memes that are just the usual blank comment set up... I tend to feel less inclined to do a set up post if I'm only going to be buried by people posting entire muselists. It feels like... a lose-lose situation at times.

And yes. The shiny factor.

DAMN YOU LOKIIIII!!!

jk i do love loki okay

Just had to say I loved The Bouncer (and Sion) and wished I could have finished it (I got lost at one point and never got back on track.)

I hope you at least got up to Kou's little undercover part. Best part of the game there. In my opinion of course.

I'd like to try making a game where all the characters are AU'd into the game world much like Sorting Hat RP, but with the Hunger Games. Would anyone else be interested in playing with the idea?
divergentress: (Default)

[personal profile] divergentress 2012-07-04 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends on some more details. The idea intrigues me, but I'd like to know the following:

a. would these characters live in a boarding school (like Hogwarts) and have to stay in the prospective houses?

b. would they have freedom to move around and tag everyone or would they be more or less stuck with their respective 'house' (in HP canon, they seem to more or less by stuck interacting with their house in actual Hogwarts which is why we don't know a lot about the other houses. or at least that's my take in all of it).

[personal profile] retrieverchef 2012-07-04 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I was thinking of taking the basic fusion-type AU that Sorting Hat did with HP and doing something similar set in Panem. Sorting Hat does the concept you're talking about. I think you can have CR between houses there, though. I haven't apped in there yet, though, so I can't say for sure.

I have no idea what Panem is or does. So honestly, that's a bad example for me, I'm so sorry!

I don't even know how that answers the boarding school thing, lol. I'm so sorry. I am new to panfandom rp/memes. I don't mean to be such an idiot.

[personal profile] retrieverchef 2012-07-04 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Panem is the setting of the Hunger Games trilogy.

You're not being an idiot. Although, now that you've mentioned the whole Hogwarts thing, it'd be fun to do something like that set at the time of the epilogue. And then it would be up to the individual characters if they want to be clique-ish within their house or if they want to have more inter-house friendships. A lot would probably depend on their family backgrounds. A character in Gryffindor with a sibling in Ravenclaw would probably have more interraction with Ravenclaw characters than an only child in Slytherin with no prior friends who ended up in any other houses.

Ha. For the record, I HAVE watched and read Hunger Games. For some reason, I thought you meant that was a GAME therefore it didn't click. lol. Sorry!

See, THAT I sound find interesting. For them to have a least a shot. I can also see certain characters making a fess over OTHER people talking to those in other houses. In the books, it was a lot more cliquish within the houses as the houses, but I think it'd be more interesting and fun to throw them at everyone if they choose. So if that's the setting and deal, I would be interested. :)

Hey one interested party is better than none, right? lol

[personal profile] retrieverchef 2012-07-04 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be sorry! I've made the same type of self-confusion.

And a large part of that is due to the characters the series focuses on. I'm sure if the series focused on the Parvati twins, we'd get a different picture. Plus, I'm sure things changed somewhat after Voldemort died. It would be fun to explore what would change and how.

True that!

[personal profile] sharpsuitfluffytail 2012-07-04 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I have this guy. He's quite literally from the worst canon imaginable. I'd love to toss him at people in memes, but since he's technically a "furry" character... I'm kinda nervous to. It's like... he's a really odd muse I'd love to develop more, but at the same time, don't want to freak anyone out or whatever. If that makes any sense? I don't know, you mention "furry" on the internet and its like a bad word or something. :/

(Anonymous) 2012-07-04 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
from the looks of your icons, he's not anthropomorphic (like bugs bunny for example), so you should be fine. "humans with animal parts" aren't a big deal.

[personal profile] sharpsuitfluffytail 2012-07-04 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, anon, that helps.

[personal profile] selich 2012-07-04 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
So...this is a new dude and I've only tagged him in one meme, but if anyone is up for horror plots involving monsters, etc, sup how you doin'

I sh...ould probably tag him in the actual horror meme then /dork

Also: fey/faerie characters? Canon and OC alike? :D?

You already know how I feel about this character, but I am still very pleased at the results of tagging your OC. I will definitely be tagging him again.

Where Are The Stephen King RPers At?

[personal profile] ka_mai 2012-07-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I never see any, ever, and I know there must be others!

I've got Bert here from The Dark Tower, and also a Nadine from The Stand (mini-series or novel/comics, I can go either way) rolling about. I toss them out for cross-canon stuff a bit, but nothing has ever taken. And canon/universemates would be absolute love!

Got a new muse here! Reading through Hawkeye and Mockingbird and I really had to make a Bobbi, in all her BAMF-ness. No shipping necessary, just looking for some fun lines and people to tag in memes.

Can we please just stop with memes like that? Or at least the attitude of the OP.

TBH, as someone who thinks the fake-out memes where the OPs were mostly posting to pat themselves on the back when people "fell for it" were obnoxious as hell, I don't have a problem with that one. A little smug, yeah, but I think they made it obvious enough that there was something different about this meme and people should maybe glance at the actual text; I saw the title, went "oh, why FOR SMARTIES?" and then saw the answer right at the very beginning of the post, and immediately knew, hey, there was something in the rules I should probably read. When it's set up like that, someone not following the rules really would be stupid and obnoxious.

Smarties always makes me think of the candy before anything else.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The name is pretentious, but I like the principle of having to post with a prompt.

The reason a lot of people don't get tagged is because it can be a huge pain in the ass to tag a new person with a set-up, only to see them never respond. To post to a meme with a prompt already in place sends the message that you're here to thread -- you're not here just to see who is biting.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally agree-- I don't care much for the smugness of tone there, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see more memes where people can't leave their initial posts blank. I wouldn't want ALL memes to be like that, because sometimes I don't have a good idea and just want to throw my character out there and see who bites.

But I think that occasionally requiring the initial poster to care enough about the meme to post even a tiny blurb about what's going on is nothing but a GOOD THING, and only encourages new taggers to play.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-06 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
there should be a list of people who never tag people back ever

(Anonymous) 2012-07-06 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like that's mostly self-policing, actually. I'll almost never re-tag someone who doesn't tag back, or tags once or twice and then drops and keep my own personal list-- I enjoy seeing the resolution to a scene and it's not worth it to me to keep throwing things into the void.

But I don't think that a public list could possibly cause anything BUT wank, unfortunately. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-07-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's anything wrong with not tagging back or dropping a thread if it goes somewhere a person isn't interested in, but I've seen a few people who get like... 2-3 tags and they just never reply

Sup with that

I would kill for 2-3 tags on a meme

it would only cause wank if people feel like being rp-teases
