It wasn't the first time Sunny had gone to the family crypt to talk to her great uncle, the one she'd never met, as he'd passed before she'd been found, but she'd heard stories about him, from her fathers and all the rest of the uncles as well.

And she had a lot of uncles.

In any case, she hadn't actually been expecting an answer, which was why that first thump caused her to yelp like a startled puppy, sitting bolt upright from where she'd been leaning against the wall, fingers drawing idle patterns in the dust on the floor. She'd almost convinced herself she'd imagined it, but then there was another, and another and she did the only thing that made sense: she went to get the shovel to use as a pry-bar to get the lid open, and even still she had to use most of her weight and both arms to get enough leverage to do so.
