THE PILLOW FORT MEME

It doesn't matter what age you are. From 1 year to 9,629,574,387 years, everybody loves a good pillow fort!
1. Post with your character and, in your starting comment, describe the magnificent [or not so magnificent] pillow fort that you've built.

That startles a laugh out of Jason, who shrug.

"Sorry." But he doesn't look sorry at all. "I was just trying to help. Don't have any more pillows-" He glances at the fort, because yeah. He bets no one else has pillows at all, actually. "But with some well-placed chairs it won't fall apart like that. Can I help?"

He looks like he's thinking about it for a moment. Then he smiles back at him. "Well, I had been trying to go for the authentic free-standing fort my Pops used to make," he admits, "but if you ain't going to say anything, chairs would be great. Grab a couple and bring 'em over?"

Jason snorts, reaching for the nearest chair. It's a pretty sturdy one, should do the trick.

"You have to work with what you have, man." He looks around, looking for other chairs or for a better place to support the fort into. The thing is, the guy had been doing a great job. Fort was pretty stable for being so big. "Maybe just one will be enough? Or maybe we can start with the chair and see what happens. Work our way to kicking it out."

Max nods along in agreement. "Hey, I had to try first before I gave in, but it's cool." He adjusts that one cushion again, not that he can take the chair and props it against the wall, checking how sturdy it is. "Hm...might need one more. I can't wait to finish so I can kick back, toss some popcorn and scroll through Netflix. They just added a bunch of new movies and shows yesterday."

Jason snorts. He'd, no lie, use a fort like this so sit back relax and read a book but he doesn't want to sound like a nerd in front of a new friend. He gets up to look for the nearest chair, already considering the fort from an architectural point of view. Possible escapes, possible entrances, weak spots...

"I'd bring chicks in here if I were you. You know, privacy, the fun of doing something mischievous... "

He does pause then to look back over his shoulder at Jason. Max can't help but chuckle because it's not a bad sentiment and yet it's not quite right either. "Believe me, I'm all for having friends over for a movie night, but if I wanted something mischievous, I'd be inviting someone else."

"Oh?"

Jason laughs as he waggles his eyebrows at Max. He's all for gossip. "Got a specific someone in mind then?"

"Someone more like Bruno Mars than Taylor Swift," he says, amused. "A man can dream."

Jason takes a second to get it, and then he kind of goes 'Oh!' out loud and lets out a laugh at himself for assuming.

"Okay then, no chicks. Cute boys?" And then he points at himself with his thumbs. "Though you've got that one covered." Eyyyyy.

Max snorts and goes back to adjusting the cushions, glad that the one chair seems to have fixed the leaning issue on the west side of the fort. He fixes the sheets and blankets on top and then stands up and turns toward Jason with a hand leaning against the chair. "I don't remember inviting you," he remarks. "And maybe I don't go for guys with big egos. Gets kind of crowded."

"Oh puh-lease, I'm cute as heck. I'm basically everyone's type."

He shrugs. "And I did help you with the fort. 's only fair. Sorry I don't make the rules."

Cheeky shit, he thinks, but Max is amused by the banter they have going. Max touches a finger to his own chest. "I make the rules, it's my fort. If you think that helping with a couple chairs is enough to get you into my fort, you should start being nicer to me. Being cute ain't enough."

Jason tries to go for an annoyed kind of look, but it's clear he's mostly amused and glad they have a nice banter going. You're alright, new guy, you can stay.

"So you admit I'm cute." He fingerguns him. "But okay okay. What d'ya need for the fort? Food? Blankets? Drinks?"

Max decides not to respond to the first part, since that's give up too much ground. Instead he lifts the blanket that works as the door of the fort and pulls out to packages that he tosses in the other boy's direction. Two bags of theater style popcorn.

"Get to poppin'. Extra butter," he says, giving a cheeky smile. "And drinks would be real nice."

That looks like Max had been waiting for the occasion, so Jason lets out a scoff. But he did offer so he takes the popcorn.

"When you say drinks you talking about soda, lemonade, or what?"

"I'm not picky as long as it's cold. Too hot for cocoa," he tells him before lifting up the flap again and crawling inside. He disappears for a moment before poking his head back out.

"Hurry up or I'll start the movie without you."

Jason laughs, already on his way out to find some drinks. It doesn't take him long to come back with one of each, because might as well give the guy some variety. And some ice, as well, for good measure.

"Knock knock!" Hey, there's no door. He has to make the sound effects.

Max has propped the extra pillows up into a nice reclining back, gotten the white sheet he'd set for the "screen" ready, and already synced his smartphone to the blutooth speakers. When he hears the "knock" he sets the speakers down and peeks his head out.

"Just in time," he reaches for both of the drinks to brin them into the fort. "Popcorn almost ready?"

He hands him the drinks, grinning.

"Popping and ready to drown in butter. Will I be allowed inside the super awesome fort for cute boys, sir?"

He gets the drinks set up in the little spot that isn't covered in blankets and pillows--perfect to hold them still and keep them from being knocked over--and looks thoughtful, as if the question takes a lot for him to think through.

"I don't see why not," he finally says magnanimously. "I figure we can watch some Robin Hood Men in Tights, drive-in style."

"Oh my God are you serious-"

He all but runs away to get the popcorn. He might or might not be adding extra butter just for that.

"That's like, one of my favorite movies. Ever."

Max chuckles as he watches Jason hurry off, calling out to make sure he's heard. "It's comedy and romance and sword-fighting. Sword-fighting while romancing in a comedy. What is there not to love?"

He then heads back into the fort fully getting himself comfortable against the cushion wall and making sure the movie is prepped on his phone to project towards the screen. "I'm starting!"

He wasn't really but he wanted to see how fast Jason could move.

Really fucking fast is the answer. It only takes Jason a few seconds to come back with two pretty big bowls filled to the brim with popcorn. And it only takes him that long because he actually tries not to drop any on his way there.

"Don't you dare begin without me. That's a punishable offense."

Max is more amused by Jason's reaction than the prospects of the hilarious movie. But he grins cheekily at him and takes one of those bowls of popcorn, propping it in his lap. "Oh look, you're just in time," he remarks before reaching over to the stand phone is on and hitting the play button.

The sound bursts from the speakers between them instead of the phone, just as he wanted. "You better not talk through the whole movie."

Says the guy who starting talking after he started the movie.

He tosses some popcorn in Max's general direction with something that is definitely not a pout.

"Booh don't tell me you're the shut up during a movie type. You'll lose cute points that way."
