ROMANTIC ATTEMPT Let's face it: you're bad at this whole "romantic affection" thing. Really, that's being generous. You suck abysmally at it. Still, you've found yourself in something resembling a human relationship, somehow, and you feel like you either have or want to show you care. Uhm, congrats. I'm sure this is going to work out well for you! Just kidding. Be it a physical gesture, kind words directed their way, or a gift, you're going to screw this up, most likely. Screw it up badly. Hopefully, they'll be charmed by you at least trying and won't be offended. Fingers crossed. [She's the one who asked him to be Valentine's and now she's telling him to wait? He does as he's asked, though, even taking a half step back and half raising his hands. Too fast, he's got it. As to her question, though...]

I'm surprised but should I be embarrassed? A girl asked me to be her Valentine, and you're smart and pretty and... you work... hard...

[OK, now he's embarrassed. That's more than he probably should have said. Daichi really just wanted her to feel better and less embarrassed but that doesn't make any of it less true.]

I'm not embarrassed to be asked by a girl like you.

[Don't use logic against her, she's too embarrassed to be able to refute that. She's happy, she thinks, though shock has numbed down the feeling to absolute embarrassment at the moment because she had miscalculated. It doesn't help that Sawamura is going on and on, and she doesn't think that she can handle all of the praise when she's already about to keel over.]

Argh! Sawamura, wait-- time out! You c-- can't just keep going on like that!

[She stands up abruptly, reaching upward and trying to resist the urge to be on tiptoes as she covers his mouth with both her hands in an attempt to give herself time to regain her dignity.]

Have mercy on me already.

[It's not logic, it's emotion. It's not Daichi's fault that how he's feeling makes sense right now! It's also not his fault he can't shut up but luckily Michimiya's right there to help him, sort of. He does go quiet when she claps her hands over his mouth, but he can't help smiling underneath them and surely she's got to feel that.

He does lift his hands at his sides, though, open and with his palms facing her in a gesture of surrender. He's done, he's done! At least, until she is.]

[She sighs, and tentatively pulls her hands away to see if he's going to try again. It's a little cautious, because she's not ready for such a verbal onslaught twice. Once she's sure that he won't though, a shy smile leaves her, allowing her to lean back and clasp her hands behind her a little more sheepishly.

Sawamura likes her back.

He likes her back.]

I um... so... [Is she supposed to ask him on a date now? Is that how it works?] Do you think we could um...

[And now she's tongue-tied.]

[True to his word--or his gesture--Daichi doesn't speak even after Michimiya takes her hands away. He does let out a deeply held breath when he smiles, though. She's got a cute smile and he's glad to see it.

Daichi smiles back when Michimiya assumes a somewhat formal posture. For himself, he moves to hold the chocolate with both hands, listening as she speaks. Or tries to speak. He waits to see if she's going to have any success but it seems mean to let her struggle so he ducks his head a little and speaks.]

Maybe we can start with me walking you home?

[Oh!

Trust Sawamura to know what to say. She looks relieved, and a lot more happy as she nods, visibly relaxing at the thought that they can start there. Walking home is a good step. She can do this.]

Okay, that sounds great!

[She smiles brightly, balancing on the balls of her feet before making her way beside him, towards the direction of the school gates.]

[He thought that might be the best suggestion for now. It's something they've done before, after all, so it's familiar, but it'll also be a little different now. Daichi's a bit nervous but he's determined not to let it show. Michimiya'd take it the wrong way for sure and he doesn't want that. Instead he shifts his bag on his shoulder and nods, tapping the box of chocolates on his leg lightly.]

Yeah. I'd like that too. So, yeah.

[Once she's next to him, he starts toward the gate... then stops. He put the chocolates in his far hand for a reason, after all, and he offers her his other one. Hopefully something as simple as an offer to hold hands won't scare her off, even if she maybe doesn't want to yet.]
