Romantic Attempt
![]() Let's face it: you're bad at this whole "romantic affection" thing. Really, that's being generous. You suck abysmally at it. Still, you've found yourself in something resembling a human relationship, somehow, and you feel like you either have or want to show you care. Uhm, congrats. I'm sure this is going to work out well for you! Just kidding. Be it a physical gesture, kind words directed their way, or a gift, you're going to screw this up, most likely. Screw it up badly. Hopefully, they'll be charmed by you at least trying and won't be offended. Fingers crossed.

[It sounds a little like pandering to his ears, but he means it with every fiber of his being. He believes that about every member of his team, but right now in this moment he means it especially about her and about her ability to make him happy.
The idea makes him feel kind of incredulous, really, that she could think it'd be somehow out of reach that someone like her to make him happy. It occurs to him as he tries to figure out how to catch her eye again that maybe they're the same that way. He certainly never saw himself the way she does, strong and pure-hearted and... thighs...
Yeah, he's embarrassed all over again thinking about that part, but not nearly as much as he was before. Carefully, like she's a creature he could startle, Daichi edges closer and rests his fingers on Kiyoko's wrist. He won't make her give up her grip on the notebook if she doesn't want to, but he's a physical kind of guy. Touch is a powerful connection for him. He'd like to take her hand, but for now, this is nice too.]
I'd like that a lot. I think we should give each other a chance. We'll never know if we don't try, right?

Ever since Shimizu decided on about talking to Daichi about her feelings she carried the responsibility of her decision like a weight. She made plans and then changed them many times, she spent hours with trying to figure what to say and do. She read books on the subject. Human relationships are like volleyball, if you know the rules and the right formulas, you'll score. Except that this time there was much more on stake than a match.
... Daichi didn't have time to prepare or plan anything. He just...said what he felt, easily and naturally. And the weighs Shimizu carried, melted when he placed his fingers at her wrist. Shimizu just looked into those delightful eyes and wished if she could be only a bit more like him.]
If it's not too much to ask...could you hold me, just a bit?

Daichi's specialty has always been reactions. It might seem proactive, to dive for a ball when it's flying toward you, but receiving depends entirely on what's coming at you and how you react to it. It's one of the reasons he was afraid of how he'd do as a captain but he thinks he's done all right. He's grown a lot, learned to act as well as react, but it's still what comes most naturally to him. With an attitude like that, he might've stayed single forever, waiting for someone else to take an interest in him, but luckily, the person who did saw fit to say so.
Carefully, after she asks, Daichi steps closer, moving his hand from her wrist to her shoulder and then around, making a little arch with his arm and his body for her to fit into, or for him to fit around her if she can't make herself move.]
Of course. For as long as you need.
[It's so rare to see their manager, to see Kiyoko vulnerable like this, that doing this feels like the very least he can do. She let her walls down to share this; he's happy to be the wall again for a little while, if that's what she needs.]

Managing a team is often similar to receiving, she has to react to problems and she was lucky enough that her so-called career spared her from the Oikawa-style serves until now. At the same time she often had to act by herself and she was used to it. So she stands there only for a second before she'd press her forehead against his neck, still holding the notebook.]

Daichi doesn't move right away when she comes in, letting her decide where she wants to settle in, but once she seems to have found a good spot (as well as one that makes his cheeks go a little warm), he lifts his arms to wrap them around her. After all, she didn't ask him to stand there like a wall, did she? She asked to be held, and he can do that. One arm wraps around her back, the other coming to rest higher on her shoulders and, after a moment's consideration, Daichi rests his hand on the back of Kiyoko's neck. It's more intimate than any other hug he's ever had before, but that's allowed, he's pretty sure.
He tenses his core just in case, though, bracing for a chop.]

It's not like Daichi would need to be protected from the rumors. He can receive literally anything what life shoots at him, at least he can do it on Shimizu's mind...right before she falls asleep or right after she wakes up and for some reason she thinks of him...still, she'd like to stand up for him, to deal with those spikes for him, to do something for him. She needs him to need her.
And then she's there with his arms wrapped around her and a warm palm lands on her nape and it1's so sudden that by the time she could realize a chop she finds out that there's no need for it. Those arms are where they have to be and that hand couldn't find a better place...
...or maybe it could, but if it tried the chop would definitely happen. Everything Daichi does is so soft and lacks any ill intent and it's better than the summer itself, but what she feels while standing there makes Shimizu think of the smell of bad eggs. Her feelings are just...bad.So she coughs and without looking up or touching Daichi with a fingertip she asks him.]
Could you...go and wake Tanaka up? The ground is not warm enough to sleep there for a long time.

He's relieved when it seems there's no chop coming, because he kind of likes this. Kiyoko fits in his arms easily, comfortably, and he can't help but notice with her so close that she smells... like a girl. He's not used to being this close to girls so he's not sure if it's special girl shampoo or perfume maybe but it's much nicer than what happens when he and a teammate share a hug after a win.
He's just trying to decide if that's something he should tell her, that she smells nice, or if that'd be weird when he hears her speaking. She hasn't lifted her arms or returned the hug at all and now she's asking him, more or less, to go away. Daichi sighs but lowers his arms till his hands are just resting on Kiyoko's shoulders, then takes a half step back, just enough distance to be able to see her face even if she won't look at him.]
I can, if you want. I'm sorry if that wasn't what you were expecting me to do.
no subject
No...don't be sorry.
[Finally she looks back at Daichi, What should she do or say? She can't tell him right in the eye that she liked to be hugged by him and wanted to lean against him and let her chin rest on his shoulder...That wouldn't be the Shimizu Kiyoko Daichi knew and maybe liked. If he found out about this new Kiyoko it would throw him aback and maybe he would detest her because of those feelings.
But she can't leave him without any explanation either.]
I don't know what I've expected but it was good. What you did...it was good. I liked it a lot and it would be good if it happened again. And now you know...and if you think it's naughty or...or...
[She runs out of breath and lets her arm fall with the notebook. It doesn't really count what Daichi thinks of her now. The only thing matters is that he must stop feeling bad. Everything is okay if he's okay.]
