The Last Stand Meme

This is it. The battle to end all battles. And, unfortunately, it doesn't look like you're going to be winning this one.

But that doesn't mean it's not a fight worth fighting, does it? Maybe by fighting on, you can create a glimmer of hope for someone else's future. Maybe you want to end everything with a battle to serve as a final, unforgettable legacy for your people. Maybe you're just the kind of person who wants to punch death in the face.

Whatever the reason, it's time to make a Last Stand. Meme.

1 - Before the Battle. The enemy's endless forces are advancing. The outcome has already been decided. And yet, you must go out to face them. What is there left to say?

2 - Badassery. Strike down one hundred foes. If one hundred foes are replaced by one thousand, then strike down one thousand. There's no reason to hold anything back any more. Fight gloriously, for whatever you believe in, and make an unstoppable force feel fear.

3 - Forbidden Arts. Your master told you never to use this technique. It's too risky, threatening the fabric of reality itself. Once you use it, your body will be destroyed. None of it matters now. Say your farewells and go all out with a final surge of power.

4 - The Losing Battle. The forces of light are falling. The forces of darkness are endless. The fight rages on, but the reality of defeat is becoming greater and greater. Can you hold together in the face of the inevitable?

5 - Death. One by one, they fall. Even the greatest heroes left aren't invincible. Their deeds great, their memory eternal, it's time to face the beyond. Use your final moments wisely.

Or anything else this premise makes you think of.

If anyone wants to provide enemy forces, go nuts for that. Otherwise, take the villainous forces from your canons and turn them up to 11. Or make something up. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

For Shinobu, the closest to a lofty, overarching cause to aim for as upping the ranks in the United Assassins Association, but even then it was in pursuit of her revenge. Beneath the cloak of secret training and fighting, she grew a taste for blood. "I'm eager to kill," she's known to have said, and the trail of bodies behind her would attest to that. Honor is more her measure of conscience than morality, so whether or not she has any personal stake in this stand, if she's committed her word, she's going to see it through. And hell, if she can have some fun slicing, dicing, jabbing, and stabbing a few baddies along the way, well sign her up.

Noa's been on the losing side of a grand war before. He's also in a way been responsible for his side faltering because he was the country's Savior. They were willing to risk their forces rescuing him from enemy hands and excavating a power they hoped he would wield to save their people, but in the end it was too much responsibility and guilt to bear being on the wrong side to start. Neotopia crumbled, supposedly having taken him with it, except somehow he survived to emerge from the rubble. He still made grievous mistakes on the way to this point, ones he's apologetic for and will probably be for the rest of his life -- if there's even one left with this final battle looming ahead, be it against the warring Spirits awakened by their god Tusker or another force.
