When You Say Nothing at All

Words can be twisted into any shape. Promises can be made to lull the heart and seduce the soul. In the final analysis, words mean nothing. They are labels we give things in an effort to wrap our puny little brains around their underlying natures, when ninety-nine percent of the time the totality of the reality is an entirely different beast. The wisest man is the silent one. Examine his actions. Judge him by them.

A picture's worth a thousand words, but what about an action? When you're with someone, or even just so attracted to a person that you've watched them for a while, you are probably tuned in to them more than any random off the street. You can read their body language. You know their moods, what makes them happy or sad or angry, and, hopefully, how to comfort them or cheer them up. Words aren't the only way to do this: an embrace, a soft kiss, or even an offer of a hand could be worth a MILLION words.

He was right and he was wrong. He was a good man, she truly believed that. He had just done bad things to achieve what he thought he had to do. If she didn't believe that she wouldn't be anywhere near here.

As for tainting her with his darkness...

"I think that should be my decision, shouldn't it?"

She wasn't going anywhere, not now.

"And if given the choice what would you choose," Malcolm asks trying not to sound hopeful as he says it. Hope is an emotion for lesser men who haven't suffered and lost as much as he has.

She swallowed hard and took a step closer. "I think... it would be worth it. For the chance to..." Her voice faded off. She was shaking so hard that she wasn't even sure what to do.

"To be with you."

Malcolm's eyes slide shut for a moment and then he's leaning down to kiss her again. "I may be out of practice," he admits.

Hr breath caught again as his lips met hers. "I'm not sure I ever was really in practice," she admitted.

"I haven't kissed a woman in over twenty years,"Malcolm admits.

"Over ten years for me," she murmured. "And that certainly wasn't anything special. This... I think this is."
