[Vodka boosted, and with it lowering barriers, he reaches out, without moving.]
Rey. Open your senses completely. Let the feeling flow through you.
[Carefully, keeping a hold on it in case he needs to shut it down, he lets the full power of the Force flow through him, and around him, and to her. She has the potential to be one of the strongest Jedi ever, he believes, but even the strongest must start small.]
[But it's not at easy as it sounds, opening your senses completely. She can feel it - just there out of her reach - but nly some of it is managing to flow through her. Is she trying too hard?]
A good thing. [He takes a moment, then speaks quietly, looking at her, eyes warm, if showing some old pain.]
The Force is a tool which we can use, or let use us. Mastery of it brings power, and skill, and the ability to walk your own path, while giving up your own ambitions. Losing one's self to it brings power, and skill, and an answer to all your ambitions and dreams, but the loss of any true hope.
[A faint smile crosses his face.] The choice is yours, and will be, every day of your life.
... I don't see why you have to lose true hope in order to have your own control of the Force. Wouldn't it make more sense to keep your hope, your emotions, and have the control you want?
[Luke opened his mouth, considered, closed it, Then spoke slower.]
Let me rephrase; there are two ways to deal with the Force. First, we can work hard, dedicating ourselves to mastering our inner selves and the Force . This leads to peace, and calmness. It is not a denial of emotion, it is a mastery of how emotion affects us.
[Luke nodded, then went on.]
The second way is to take the faster, easier route of letting our emotions rule us, and giving in to them. We lose ourselves in the Force, and lose party of who we are in the doing. This leads to despair, and an endless quest for power.
[Rey thinks about these answers, then speaks slowly]
Isn't there a way of letting ourselves still be effected by our emotions - not controlling them, but not letting them control us - and yet able to use the Force without searching for Power? I'd... I know that the Ancient Jedi were forbidden from families, but... Somehow that seems cruel.
[Says the girl that still has a small part of her waiting on Jakku, for her biological family to return. That still has a small part of her forever that young child, screaming for them to come back]
[Luke scrubbed his face, then sighed.] I'm not talking about abandoning families or turning away from those we love. I don't teach the old ways, Rey.
[A long sigh, then he held up a hand.] But understand, the Force is a living thing, a wild, living thing. When you interact with it, you share yourself with it. If you're not in control, absolutely, you can cause really bad things to happen.
[A shadow of old pain, old horror flared in his eyes, and he rose, abruptly, to turn from her, holding onto the desk edge with his artificial hand.] I know. I know the Dark Side all too well, and I'm not professing to know everything about the Force.
[He remembered the darkness, the feel of it, the arrogance and delight of it, the fear of it. He remembered and he shuddered, before he let go of the desk, and took a long breath, then another, and finally, he turned back toward her.] But whatever you choose to do, be careful. There is a price for everything we do with the Force. Whatever you do, do not underestimate it.
[He didn't want to scare her, but he knew all too many people never made it as far as choosing Light or Dark. They lost themselves long before that. So many names, and faces, filled his nightmares, and he didn't want to add hers to them.]
You're welcome. Thank you for finding me. Sometimes we get lost in our own thoughts, our own ways. We have to be reminded that there is more out there.
[A sigh, then, and a closing of his eyes, and he shook his head, uncertainly.] Partially yes, and partially... the weight of failure and sorrow sometimes makes one bow some.
[His eyes showed some small amusement as he glanced up at her.] Any blow, any weight, can be the same. It can feel like the very last thing you can take. In order not to break, one must find a way to bend, just enough, to bear it, and not enough to let yourself fall. It's not always an easy line to walk, and it can take time.
[Luke smiled, then and nodded, going quiet. He had a lot of reasons to be glad Rey had found him, and he hoped this would continue to be so. He would not let the shadows of the past hang over him, and he would teach her the same. It was time for all of them to move forward. The Light side would rise again.]

[Her vodka is refilled as he leans back.] Relax. Just... enjoy the vodka. Tomorrow, I can show you a few things to help. You have a lot of potential.
[There is pride, whether he has a right to it or not, in his voice.]

Is potential a good or bad thing?
[The question slips out without her really meaning it to]

[A sad but defiant smile crossed his face.] Though, as an old friend has told me more than once, there will come time to be reckless.
