The Master/Familiar Love Meme

"In European folklore and folk-belief of the Medieval and Early Modern periods, familiar spirits (sometimes referred to simply as 'familiars') were supernatural entities believed to assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. According to the records of the time, they would appear in numerous guises, often as an animal, but also at times as a human or humanoid figure, and were described as 'clearly defined, three-dimensional… forms, vivid with colour and animated with movement and sound' by those alleging to have come into contact with them, unlike later descriptions of ghosts with their 'smoky, undefined form[s]'."
Everybody needs a sidekick. This includes those who may have a little help of their own in the form of magic - witches, warlocks, mages, sages, casters, magicians...whatever you want to call them, they have a bit more juice than your average Joe. Luckily, the job comes with a built-in assistant: a familiar, or a helper spirit. The familiar serves as a guide to their magical "Master" of their choice, helping them out of tight spots and being their companion for life. Sometimes, they come in the form of animals, like dogs and especially cats. Some don't bother with this, though, and just stay in their true humanoid forms. The bond between familiar and master is one of intensity, and they know each other completely. Most familiars even have a telepathic link to their masters. That helps them keep an eye on them. Of course, given this closeness-beyond-closeness, it's easy to imagine a master and familiar as soulmates, and with familiars having a human form...well, intimacy seems like a natural option.
Too bad relationships of that kind between master and familiar are strictly forbidden. Surely, that rule is always followed.
HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character, stating your preferences (ex: F/M, open to all, etc). Also, be sure to remember and put whether your character will be witch/master, familiar, or if they can serve as both. There is no "set" type for any of the roles. Masters don't have to be dominate (ineffectual witches have always been a cute trope), familiars aren't passive or submissive, and so on. It's not the same as BDSM...though your character could bring that into it if they'd like.
- Comment around to other characters, playing out your forbidden master/familiar ~love~ or what have you.
PROMPTS
- The Familiar Chooses the Master: The first meeting. You may be new to the craft (or someone who needs a new familiar), and someone has been drawn to you.
- Setting the Ground Rules: You need to figure out how this is going to work. Where can you hide this woman/man in your apartment, if need be?
- Getting to Know You: Magic/power isn't all fun and games. You need to find out how to work together so you don't accidentally blow everything up in your faces.
- Helping Out: Familiars have a lot of neat powers that can be a boon around the house...and around the town.
- Danger Zone: Your feelings for each other are blurring, which is a big no-no. Do you even realize that the bond is deepening to a new level?
- Confession: Things have gotten heavy and you have to let your bond mate know you see them as more.
- Bad Romance: The familiar in this relationship isn't treated as equal. They're a slave to their master!
- Telepathy: The mental bond between. Explore it or use it to get out of trouble...
- Trouble is a Friend of Mine: Speaking of! Your familiar/master is danger, and there's nothing that can keep you from saving them.
- Intimacy: The obligatory smut option. Though romance between familiar and master is not allowed, many find the allure too much, and the bond does lend itself to members seeking comfort in each other. After all, they know you better than anyone else.
- You're Taken?: You're in love with a master or a familiar...they're just not yours. Oops! Maybe you can find some way to break your bonds so you can be together.
- Breaking Up is Hard to Do: It is hard, especially between master and familiar. In fact, it can be downright painful...physically and mentally!
- Sending You Away for Your Own Good: You're distancing yourself from the other member of your bond, and it's because you're headed towards destruction.
- Everybody Knows: The other members of your community have found out you've broken the ultimate taboo and are WITH your master/familiar. This is bad. This is very, very bad. Punishment bad. Separation bad. Perhaps even death bad.
- Happy Ending: Somehow, you've escaped the confines of the world that doesn't understand, and you're able to live together without fear.

She was trying to clean things up in her apartment to create more room for herself and her....guest. Though, she couldn't call him that, nope, he wasn't a guest. A guest implied they eventually went home. This bloke was her familiar, a concept the young woman was still trying to figure out.
Did she have power? Possibly, well, yes. Sarah was still in denial about it, even after she accidentally read a spell out loud and cast a thunder storm. To her defense, she was reading the words out loud and poof, the storm appeared. She wanted nothing to do with any magical or fanciful bull shit. All the English woman wanted to do was keep her head above water and not get involve with the cops....or drug dealers. Trying to turn over a new leaf was much harder than she thought.
After a few hours of going through several boxes and tossing out several old items, she was still no where near done in her loft.
"You're not sharing a bed wit me," she told him, not knowing if Michael was close by or further away. Things tended to get weird after sharing a bed with someone...or at least, in her experience they did.
[ooc: Sort of went for a modern feel, let me know if this works!]

Michael hadn't had a master or mistress in this case for quite sometime and so when the bond between master and familiar awoke inside of him once more what he was expecting wasn't the woman currently rummaging through boxes and seemingly throwing away personal belongings before him, wasn't this woman supposed to be a witch?
"Sharing a bed with you at this point wasn't the first thing that crossed my mind." He remarked from the wall he was currently leaning against, where he was watching what was going on. "Surely you could just use a spell to make your abode larger without it appearing so to anyone passing by or you could give me an animal form."

"I'm not doin' anythin' like that. Can't do it, won't do it and you're crazy." Talking about like she could change the properties of the room to make it bigger. Pft, no. that was crazy talk.
"I'm not givin' you anythin' except a place t'crash, and then from there..." From there she could figure out who to dump Michael on. She couldn't have the bloke staying with her!

The male familiar moved to look over her shoulder at where Sarah was clearing out, slightly wondering where her final sentence had been going with his face now very close to her own. "'and then from there' what? You are my mistress and I am now bound to you, I will find you wherever you go or send me."

Sarah would be the first to admit Michael was cute looking, but his attractiveness began to ebb away whenever he pointed out something she didn't favor. If this was a movie, the two of them would end up kissing each other, but Sarah being stubborn put her hands up to push him away from her.
"I am not your anythin'. I didn't want a familiar, didn't want t'be caught up in all this mess. If you want a mistress, go t'one of the clubs in the downtown area, and pick one up there."

He thought about the sleeping options Sarah was now giving him. "I suppose the floor would be okay so long as it's by your bed, I'll be able to stretch my wings out there."

Superbia Squalo // KHR!
tl;dr
He hated the cold more than anything, at one time, but now it was definitely being reduced to this. All the work he had spent to make those bastards eat their words, to make them regret ever looking down on him, had all been undone in a single night. His luxurious mansion, servants, and chefs had all probably been divided as recompense to the family members of the people he had slaughtered, and just the thought of someone cutting into his dinner was enough to make him angry enough to storm back there and try finishing them all off a second time.
... But even he would have to concede now was not the time or place. He barely had enough magic left in him to fix up this cabin or start a fire. Not to mention he was starving, in a way he hadn't been since he was a child living in the slums. He clenched his fist angrily at the memory, but even that was a weak, futile gesture. He had been lucky that his so called 'father' had intervened and had him banished instead of killed, the weak old geezer.]
You got nerve, following me.
[There had been a small shadow trailing him ever since he had woken up, but his mood had been too foul for him to even think of anything besides himself. Now, with some warmth back in his limbs, he was trading one irritation for another.]

[ He had been with the family for years and he's never seen someone as talented as Xanxus. Of course he was ecstatic to form a contract with him. But that only made him madder. The shackles meant to limit the other man's magic were weighing on him too, even if he was sure they could manage to shake it off if they both worked on it. The witches were nifty and they knew how to work with contract loopholes, but they didn't have anything on pure familiar magic. Soon. ]
[ In the meantime, he finally steps from the shadows and sits inside the cabin, by the door, still in his dog-ish form. There's no point to waste energy on transformation right now; they'll have to rely on potions for a while. He cants his head, one ear flopped and one standing straight, and wags his tail a few times. ]
[ Hey, Boss. Hope you didn't think you've seen the last of me. ]

He blinked slowly and steadily, breathing quiet and low before he started laughing, a loud dumb sound that filled the small cabin. Once he got a hold of himself ( probably at least ten minutes later ), he gestured for the dog to get closer to the fire. It was mostly a selfish desire, considering fur would be pretty warm once it wasn't wet, and a dog would make for a better blanket and pillow than nothing.]
Shitty dog. Loyal to a fault.
[It sounded more like an insult than a compliment, but at least nothing was being thrown at him just yet.]

[ There's a pretty happy sounding yip, just like a real dog's when the owner shows him attention, and Squalo trots further in, quite possibly after pushing the door closed with a paw in a not-so-real-dog manner. Then he sits in front of the fireplace, tongue hanging out, whines once and licks Xanxus' hand. ]
[ Of course. What did you think. ]
no subject
He watched idly as Squalo closed the door after him, a small snort of laughter escaping him as he came up. He held out his hand, allowing the small display of affection, before scratching Squalo behind his ears. He had never had much anger towards animals, and while he knew better than to believe this to be an ordinary dog, the lack of loudness that usually accompanied Squalo being absent was soothing. Well, perhaps for the first couple of days.]
This sucks.
[As if that needed to be clarified for some reason, Xanxus crossing his legs as he settled closer to the fire.]
Were you able to take anything with you?
no subject
[ But, ah. It was sort of difficult to have a conversation like this. He growls quietly, shakes his head as if trying to get rid of water or fleas, yawns and lies down. ]
[ Nothing but his own magic, bound by extension through whatever 'keeping under control' shit had been placed on Xanxus allowing just for the most basic things that could make survival easier, but he seems to think they can get out of it with their own power still. After a bit of rest, at least. ]

Get some sleep. We start tomorrow.
['Starting' meaning that they were going to have to start making this a livable base of operations and getting food, mostly.
There wasn't any furniture or even a tatter of a blanket in this place, so Xanxus was going to curl up right in front of the fire, and he was going to be out until noon the next day. Some things weren't ever going to change.]
