SECRET relationship;

The fact that you're in a relationship with this person isn't public knowledge. Actually, no one knows about it except for the people involved. Maybe you guys are just private like that; on the other hand, it may be a necessity to keep things a secret from others. Maybe you're both team mates, and others on the team would give you grief, or you're not suppose to be dating, or you're not the type to usually date and you're only testing the waters. Perhaps it's the combination of you two, possibly an odd couple, that would bring some controversy or some teasing. Or, you know, you could not want to deal with friends and relatives being busybodies. Your reasons are your own.

Remember, there are lots of benefits to dating in secret. You can be yourselves completely, away from prying eyes, and get to know each other better as potential longterm romantic partners. It had only been a few weeks since Kristen accepted the transfer from Gotham to Chicago, in the aftermath that was her ex she honestly jumped at the chance to properly start over. Part of that had been in meeting Jeff at one of the department hangouts, which lead to friendly coffees and things quickly blooming from there. But she also knew the stories, everyone would say to never date a civilian after all. She was also going to see past the bad odds and embrace the good.

So she was outside the firehouse with a big box of files under one arm,"Its Miss Kringle! I have those files on that possible surge of arsons on the Miracle Mile." she called into the office.

Jeff came over to greet her and smiled letting her into his office. He had blinds up so he had privacy when he needed it. Someone walking by wouldn't know a thing as he motioned her in.

"Make yourself comfortable."

Kristen passed Jeff the box so the professional reason for her visit was over with before sitting down. "I actually have time for coffee today!" she could smile now. "And you better fill in me since between those arsons, office drama and well my worry prone nature in general you know I worry." blabbing a little bit but it was her ongoing battles with her confidence kicking in.

"Great, we'll have to go grab coffee then." Ah but her worried, hurried blabbing was too adorable. It actually made him smile and he shook his head. "We think the guy set the fire for insurance claims, and I'm alright. Just a little smoke inhalation. Part of the job."

"I've got time since I'm on lunch." Kristen had to smile as she and Jeff left. She quickly added,"The bruised knee is nothing to worry about, overshot the distance from ladder to box." since she was still adjusting to a larger records room. She nodded,"A classic reason right?" having become a fast learning since her transfer, "And yes I'm going to worry anyway, part of the whole being a girlfriend playbook." since she had shared part of her reasons for the transfer (her ex being the final straw but the Maniax shooting spurring her on).

"Just like I'll worry about you?"

Jeff worried just as much, but then again since his ex-wife this was the first real foray into dating he has tried. So far so good though and he knocked on wood for that quite often.

"The worst thing bound to happen to me is overshooting ladders since an archivist is not the most crazy job out there." Kristen confessed. But she knew since Gotham Jeff's worry was real,"I'm only hoping none of Gotham's problems followed me here so worry away." since she was surprised to learn how much Jeff knew of her recent past. "And on a brighter note I'm out of the extended stay hotel, snagged an apartment."

"I hope so too. You deserve to not have to look over your shoulder like that anymore." Jeff smiled, if it did follow her? Well he'd take care of it.

"I'm ready to truly start over, to stop living in fear of things. I'm ready for bad days to be because of simply overshooting a ladder and not from my memories." Kristen nodded. She had shared portions of her past over the last little while and knew Jeff worried. "But you know I'm going to be in flux while I heal?" meaning the reasons she ran from Gotham,"But I'm also holding onto the good, like us".

"And the being in flux is completely understandable, Kristen. Any one that would begrudge you that needs a swift kick." He winked and slipped his arm around her gently.

"From a transfer into a new department to a new city, I know I have a right to feel like this." Kristen nodded. Thanks to Jeff she had been able to start regaining her power in more ways than one,"And you're in my speed dial you know." letting him slip his arm around her.

It's easier to let everyone - Raleigh included - think that it's an equal opportunity hatred that runs between them. Chuck doesn't know how to really do something so complicated as feelings - his mind works in statistics and data and analysis. He can tell you how to fix Striker's hydraulics and pinpoint the exact reason that the engines are whining but he couldn't tell you how to simply talk to someone. How to have a proper conversation.

Relationships? Not a chance in hell.

So leaving it as it is, glaring and snarling and avoidance - that's the best thing to do. He can handle that.

A little twinge of guilt twists at his gut when Raleigh undoubtedly gets metal ground into the space between his shoulder blades, but he's on him instantly anyway, mouth at his neck (because who kisses?? kisses mean intimacy and Chuck can't do that), hands shoving up under his shirt.

"Be quiet," he growls, sharply pinching a nipple. "Someone will hear you squealin'."

The Lord isn't gonna help you here, Becket. It's just them and the creak of jaegers, the wet pants of two humans getting frisky. Were Striker sentient (and Chuck questions that sometimes), she'd be looking down with amusement and maybe slight disgust, because what are you doing against her foot, boy?

They don't leave visible marks. That's where Chuck draws another line.

It was precarious, her and Eames fooling around while on a job. Which was, of course, why Ariadne found it exciting and didn't put a stop to it the very first time it happened. What could she say? She liked pushing boundaries and exploring the unexplored, and Eames was never one to worry about things as ridiculous as unspoken rules and appropriate conduct towards a team member.

Who were they kidding anyway? They were all criminals.

She wouldn't exactly call it a relationship per se, but more often than not, when the day was over they were eating dinner together in one of their hotel rooms. Or sometimes, the day wasn't even over yet and she was being pulled into a side room of whatever nondescript building they were working out of for a few stolen moments away from the eyes of the rest of the team.

Like today, when on the way back from the bathroom, a hand reached out and pulled her into a deserted room, one that must have been the warehouse's office a long time ago.

[ there are other things they could be doing right now. Getting ready, primarily. They've got a job coming up, something relatively big - nothing's quite as big as the Fischer job, but it's not like they get small-time work - that's demanding a lot of her time. She's good with it - she's a little bit of a workaholic, if she's perfectly honest with herself, and she's completely okay with that. Losing herself in the building process is something she's more than good with. Even better if Eames happens to be there, providing her with company and quips and everything else Eames is good for.

[ maybe it's because he's there with her, working overtime (insofar as it can be called that, when things aren't exactly official or legal) endlessly, spending hour after hour working through the nitpicky details of the dream, that she'd begun to notice him in a different light. Maybe it's because of all that that they were drawn together under everyone else's noses.

[ Ariadne isn't complaining, even if they have to dream-share to get a private moment together. At least that way, they know it's private. It's all late-night stolen moments and quiet, sideways glances while no one's looking, and she's good with it. It's ideal, in some ways. ]
