[ It’s a ridiculously overblown affair. And of course it would be. News of the marriage of the former commander of the Inquisition and one of the most powerful—whatever his peers wish to pretend—magisters in the Imperium travels far and not so much time has passed that the people of Thedas have forgotten what the Inquisition’s done. Besides, a southern templar and a magister? It’s unheard of. At least, it was. Now everyone has heard of it and everyone wants to be there.

Except Cullen.

At first, he’d been excited. Marriage is a milestone in his life he never thought he’d reach, and to have done so with the love of his life is a gift for which he’ll never be able to express his gratitude.

But it was to be their day, and somehow, rather like the way it was with the Inquisition, it’s become weighed down with unnecessary politics. Who should be invited so as to not upset this alliance and who shouldn’t be to maintain this one. Which dignitaries to invite and how large an entourage should be permitted for each. It’s mind-numbing, pointless nonsense and quite frankly, Cullen’s sick of it. He doesn’t care about politics. He isn’t marrying a bloody country.

Two days before the big event, frustrated beyond measure and at the end of his patience, Cullen storms into Dorian’s study, points to the aide who’s standing there filling Dorian in on some detail—trivial or important, he doesn’t care—and tells him quite firmly, in the tone that always used to terrify recruits, to get out. And once he scurries away, Cullen rounds on Dorian with his hands on his hips. ]
