"If she's not there, then that's it. Back to the regular routine. Back to the city." is what he repeated to himself like some kind of hypnotism. Sure he could try to hypnotize himself to just keep fighting crime, lord knows he tried, but slowly he kept coming closer using "cleaning up the streets" as a reason.

He walked quietly in the shadows, examining pictures on wall, frames, maybe a magazine or newspaper left on a table, and in all essence stalling for time. Was she home? He said to himself he hopes not, but that's not what the voice in his head is hoping for.]

Komatsu Nana wasn't a very remarkable girl. She hadn't done particularly well in school or love, and had no real motivation when it came to college or work. It was almost a year since Nana had saved up enough money to move away from her rural hometown to New Beijing, where she had been sure her dreams would come true.

And she had nothing to show for it.

Well, almost nothing to show for it. She might not have found what she was looking for, or made enough money to get a better apartment, but two exciting things had happened: she had made an incredible new best friend, and become an accomplice to an infamous criminal.

...Maybe more than an accomplice, if she were to be completely honest.

After unknowingly helping Carswell Thorne (20 years old, positively dreamy blue eyes, and a wicked smile!) evade police, she couldn't find it in her heart to turn him in. So instead, she let him lie low in her apartment for a couple days.

Nana had flirted with him, cooked delicious homemade meals for him, even gotten him a change of clothes. It hadn't been a huge surprise when she woke up one morning to find him gone, but she had still been disappointed. At least it had been an adventure!

A little over a month later, he had come back, seeking a safe place again. Then again. Each time, Nana never turned him away, or turned him in.

It was the middle of the night when she woke up to a squeaking sound. Her heart stopped, then went into overdrive: mouse!

She sat straight up in bed, clutching the covers around her, listening hard. No, not a mouse. Whatever it was, was coming from her kitchen. Nana grabbed her portscreen, gripping it hard, ready to either summon help - or throw it as hard as she could at whatever nefarious thing was trying to get inside.

As silently as possible, Nana crept toward down the hallway, and peered around the corner into the dark kitchen.

That was when she heard a familiar voice.

[It's how the game works. Nobody wants to stay a pissant forever, and while there's certain bragging rights for being a part of the RRTS, nobody turns their nose down at the possibility of a promotion.

So he doesn't say anything to Reaper when he gets a mission all of his own to lead. He's a solid soldier. He takes orders well and he's smart enough to give his own. But he's been at this game longer, and he knows a game when he sees one. And Reaper has a hell of a fucking game in front of him. But it's not his place to say anything, so he only nods as half of his team heads to the flight pad. He's not sure how many of them will come back.

There's always another soldier to fill a spot though.

Still. John's one of his favorites. He wouldn't say friend. Friend isn't something that exists in his world. But he's something.

There's chatter on the comm about the mission going south. Faulty guns are the unofficial word, and he knew they had been itching to test out new weapons. But even good men need firearms that work. Failed mission. Dead teammates. After that there's not any reason to listen. He'll get the official letter soon enough.]

There are a number of things running through Peter's head right now: he hates flying, being in space makes him sick and why the heck is he coming to check on Lacus?
