The Fog Meme



Gosh, it's hard to see.

You are now somewhere in a fog shrouded land, filled with tons and tons of visibility obscuring fog of the worst kind. You can barely see beyond your face. You may have been thrown into a TV at some point, but your memory is a bit hazy about the exact circumstances surrounding you, this fog, and whoever else you might bump into.

[Loki stumbled through the fog in a most ungraceful manner. Something caught his foot and he tripped and fell. How he got here, he could only guess, his memory having been apparently wiped.

Looking over as he made to stand, he noticed he is now next to a young maiden with long golden hair. Honestly, how had he missed that hair through the fog?]

Gosh, sure is quiet here, huh?

Not completely quiet, mind you. Asides from the beating of his heart -- like a hammering pulse in his ears, only the cool hum of a wind resonates here. Neither of these things are much better.

"C'mon man... keep it together." If nothing else, the sound of his own voice grounds him to reality, in a way. It has to.

Be it within the confines of a prison cell or the broad open space of a misty road, Murphy hates being alone. It feels like he must be dreaming again. Falling down one place, waking up in another... The absence of rain is no more comfort than the presence of the fog here, obscuring the torn up highway, and doesn't make him question his sanity any less.

He doesn't even remember how the hell he got here.

And in his infinite brilliance, he's just... standing there without...

"...Oh, wait..."

Recalling the abandoned corner market he'd fumbled through awhile back, he fetches a small knife from his pocket. Murphy at least decides not to risk wandering into the unknown like a total idiot. Perhaps it's past experience that's trained him to be paranoid, and not without good reason.

Because he definitely hears something out there.

Fog wasn't exactly a new experience to Alfred; Rockfort was prone to bouts of grand coastal fog every now and then. Still, the weather pattern always managed to set him off. The lack of visibility, the thick, sticking humidity irritated him in a way that little else (non-living, at least) could. It sprung his paranoia into full force.

Even worse, with Alexia nearby. He'd become flighty and anxious, more so than usual, pacing circles around her when he could. Nothing could happen to her. No sneak attacks could penetrate his defense, regardless of visibility. He wouldn't allow it.

The clue had been the concierge, the way the young woman had lowered her head and refused to meet Irene's eye when Irene had returned to the hotel. Luckily, her guilt had been premature, or the hitman late, and Irene had been able to retrieve her belongings from the hotel room before she disappeared into the ether again.

Though even she had not meant for it to be quite this literal as the fog rolled in, thick and grey, muffling sound and sight alike. She could barely see where she was going, but Irene trusted her instincts, and quickened her pace, lest whoever the concierge had betrayed her to caught up.

[Sabriel thought she heard footsteps, and headed in that direction- keeping one hand on the hilt of her sword as she approached.]

[To lose her sight feels like losing everything, her confidence included. The fog feels faintly wet and thin, it clings to her skin and renders her jacket useless. This isn't the outfit to be in when the weather acts up, but it's not like Nariko had planned this. She doesn't really remember much and that alone is disconcerting, her link with her mentor is severed, and she doesn't know where she is.

Nariko is alone, and it's scary as hell.

This time is as good as any to put her abilities to use. She doesn't have any control over air or whatever, but she's got fire and it'll keep her from shivering to death. Nariko snaps her fingers and summons a little ball of it, twirls it between her fingers just for something to do while her heels click on the cement.

Hopefully she'll run into someone.]

He approaches cautiously, as he's been hearing growls behind him, and if it's reavers, he knows running won't do much good. Still, the man doesn't seem to be scarred or mutilated or covered in blood, so he decides to give him a chance.]

[Reduced visibility isn't anything new to Sabriel- you have to get used to not being able to see much farther than a few feet if you spend much time in Death, but she's uneasy about this fog- it doesn't quite smell like Free Magic, but it doesn't seem entirely natural- particularly once her attempts at blowing it away by whistling some charter marks for wind summons a wind that completely fails to clear the fog.

Sabriel lets the wind die away and keeps walking- and listening. She'll hear anyone that gets close before she sees them, after all.]

Norman Jayden | Heavy Rain

After the Origami case, Jayden was used to more difficult weather. In many respects, the fog was preferable and even a welcome change to awkwardly scrambling up slippery, rain-slicked hills - But it was still impenetrably thick and a hindrance to the investigation.

It also made him more nervous than he'd let on. How eerily quiet the streets were didn't exactly help. One hand hovered anxiously over his handgun - just in case - as he walked.

Was he outside the Domes at this point? He has to be, but the world outside was, at best, poorly maintained. The first thing that strikes him as odd, aside from the heavy fog, was the condition of the road beneath his feet. Raising his watch to his face, he spoke with a calm tone. After all, it's just a foggy road. No reason to get all upset!

"Norman, can you hear me?"

Nothing. He tries once more, but still, no response. Now he feels a little more worried. Shaking his head, he feels he has no choice but to try to follow along the road. Maybe find a town and more importantly, a ride back home.

Boy, it's times like these he wouldn't mind Dorothy giving him lip if it means he can actually see more than five feet in front of him.

[No matter how high she flies, she still can't seem to get above the fog. And she's already tried to go higher than the atmosphere. She didn't get very far, as something very solid interrupted her path... And sent her tumbling back to the ground. With a very loud crash, and a small groan from Starfire.]

Ohh... That certainly did not feel good... [Yet despite the fall from a very great height, she seems mostly unharmed. ...She's not dead, at least.] ...please, why can I not see anything?

[It was bad enough being stuck going home in this fog when he couldn't see anything through it, even worse when someone smashed into the ground in front of him.

Jack jumped back and yelped, before freezing in shock for a moment, thinking, in that instant, that he'd just witnessed someone die. He breathed a sigh of relief when she spoke. Clearly, she hadn't died. Still, having seen that she lived, he felt that it was only natural for him to be a jerk about it. He sank back into the fog, activating his helipack and floating a few feet into the air, which generated a steady beating sound as the propellers worked to keep Jack afloat.]

[Not far away, a lost kid seems to be trying to find a way above the fog.

By sprinting at a telephone pole and scaling it! He managed to run up a good distance of the pole before having to grip it and climb.

When that doesn't work, he scales half way down and then leaps down to the dirt. Tumbling when he lands and rolling back up to his feet, unharmed.]

[ Loki frowned as the green light from his staff faded. He had just cast a spell that should have cleared fog up right away. Normal fog at least. The only thing this fog had done was glow an eerie green for a few moments. It had EATEN his spell.

Even worse... for once Loki didn't have a single idea who or what could be behind it. ]

[ Souji isn't a stranger to thick fog like this, nope. His immediate reaction is to reach into his pocket to retrieve his glasses, only to find a few spare coins and a lone candy wrapper he was going to leave in the nearest trash can. Where could they have gone? Did he misplace them after cleaning them earlier?

His grip on his sword tightens as he takes his first daring step forward, careful not to trip and fall and possibly injure himself on his weapon in the process. He needs to figure out where he is-- and more importantly, find a way out. ]

[Minato, however, just figures that this is normal fog, and walks through it as if it were no big thing. Sure, it's really thick, but whatever. He knows where he's going. At least, he thinks so.]

[So it's all the more surprising when a figure wielding a sword suddenly appears out of it in front of him. That was new. Instinctively, he widens his stance, preparing to react if the figure attacked. Didn't have his sword with him, though. Might have to run. Or punch.]

[this is the furthest he's walked from outside the bounds of the Shire, and he has long since wondered whether it was a good idea. The sun has set on the lake and a heavy fog is rolling in, shrouding the nearby ruins]

[Welp. High beams are no good with fog like this out, and Stiles isn't exactly willing to crash his car into anything, be that a tree, a deer, or a psycho murdering killer. So for the past ten or fifteen minutes, he's been pulled off to the side of the road, sitting in the driver's seat with the radio turned up and tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. Well, banging and generally rocking out. You know. To keep himself busy.

Really, this needs to be the last time he lets people drag him out on foggy nights close to midnight. Really really. At least his dad won't be home until morning to worry about him. Hopefully.]

Werewolfing is an activity done in rain or shine, fog or sleet, so Derek's hoping the limited visibility will force the local hunters into hunkering down safe and warm in their lairs. It's not like he needs to see in order to mark out a path through the preserve, but he's sticking close to the road anyway.

It takes Derek all of half a minute to pick out the sweet serenading of the local Top 40s station, decide to investigate, and arrive just in time for a rather impressive steering wheel drum solo. And because he's a dick, Derek doesn't bother to announce his presence. He just...

You know.

[He'll be running into her and not her Shadow. Not that...he even knows anyone else is around right now. Enhanced vampire senses only go so far in heavy fog like this, after all. Spike can barely even see his hand in front of his face right now, the fog makes sounds echo so it's hard to tell where noises come from, and it does a pretty damn good job of masking scents. Basically he's blind and lost and he hates it. That makes for one grumpy vampire.]

Bloody hell. [It's muttered to himself as he trudges along through the fog, patting the pockets of his duster for his cigs and lighter. Bumbling around out in the fog is not his idea of a good time.]

This is starting to border on insanity, and she has the feeling that if something doesn't change soon, she'll end up more of a mess than when she left Pylea. She finds a stick and tries to make scratches in the ground, but as soon as she's gone from one equation to the next, it's covered up in fog again.]
