Lately, Scar had taken to sitting by the ocean. At this beach, the waves rolled gently against the rocks and sand. The atmosphere was a pleasant break from the weary on-goings of his usual life. It was secluded enough that nobody would come to bother him, at least.

It still haunted his mind, the accident. Even though the wreck had been weeks ago, Scar was still shaken by the idea that he could have easily drowned. Yet, he had awoken on this very beach, shivering and weak, but alive. Had it simply been dumb luck that he had washed up on the beach, alive and well? It could not have been an act of divine intervention... God would not choose to save him. It made him wonder, though. Was somebody actually looking out for him?

So there he sat, quietly watching the tide come in and feeling no need to rouse himself.

"...Wait!"

How extraordinary it was that one little word could change someone's whole world. Molly Hooper had never seen herself as anything special, except in the eyes of her father. And in truth, growing up no one thought much of her, either. She was an odd child; always reading as much as she could about the outside world. Healing, gardening, though fiction books were really the best. Reading was only one in a few select activities in which she found joy in being on her own.

As she grew older, however, everything slowly began to change. Not much of her personality changed (though she did learn more about holding her tongue and thus came off quiet and shy), but outside, her beauty became a bit more striking. And after the most prime event of the social season, people began to notice. At first she liked the attention, though her experience with young men was quite low. She had her feelings hurt more times than she wanted to admit when she found out that she was too unusual for them.

Molly grew depressed, and her father sought to appease her loneliness with a gift; he was already traveling a few towns over for a business deal, so what harm could come from one more night away, searching for a gift for his daughter?

Well, a lot apparently. Especially when unexpected weather hits and he has to seek refuge in a nearby residence. Unfortunately for him, the owner wasn't in the mood for company...

Two whole days passed before Molly embarked on her own search. It wasn't like her father to be gone so long. She couldn't believe what she saw when she found. Or who else she encountered.

"Please, take me instead!"

Though she could barely stand, Molly soon found herself offering to trade places with her father. "He's...he's no good to you," she reasoned, tears in her eyes. "I-I can work, I'll do whatever you need me to, just...please let him go."
