New Friends, 1, and 1

[ At the end of the running, when the show's all done, there's a small party for the company of actors and staff at a restaurant cleared out for the occasion. Nate won't know this man, but he'll have certainly seen him around. He's one of the stagehands, men who dress down all in black and shift the scenes with precision that makes it look like sliding across glass.

He's flopped down in the seat just across from the other man, long arms draped behind him on the chair. The perfect picture of confidence, though the looks he receives from the castmates seem to question his being there. He's not an actor, after all, even if the stagehands are almost as important to the success of the show. He's quiet for a moment, eying the rest of the party with a slow turn of head.

But then he stares at Nate, languid and considering. One boot shifts beneath the table, seeking to prod at the other. ]

So what'd ya think, kid?

Old Friends, 12 - Setting: 4 (I should tell you/TMI)

Albus Dumbledore had never intended to start an army. It was never how he envisioned his path in life. He was an educator, the quintessential academic. He believed in knowledge and the noble pursuit of truth and he strove to pass on that passion to the students in his care. But life never seemed to follow a straight road, he discovered, and the twists and turns of the road less travelled seemed to take him to some dark places.

Which is why, with a heavy heart, he was approaching one of the newest members of the Order. Remus John Lupin had always been a wonderful student. His dedications to his studies had made him a delight to have in class and yet, the boy held a terrible secret which Dumbledore had promised to keep. Of course, with the boys that Remus had chosen to associate with - good, mischievious boys - it wasn't a secret that could be kept for very long. Dumbledore had done his best to keep the secret contained, to keep Remus safe and the other students safe from Remus when he was at his most vulnerable. Many headmasters would have turned their nose up at admitting a werewolf but Dumbledore never let the thought enter his mind. Remus was a child and every child should be given an opportunity - a chance - at an education. Even after that terrible incident with Severus Snape, Dumbledore still believed he made the right decision.

The night was still when Dumbledore arrived at Lupin's home. He may have been an old man but his senses were alert as he scanned the streets looking for a sign that someone was watching. He wasn't stupid enough to believe that he could go anywhere without eyes on him. He was an influential man, much to his chagrin, and someone that Voldemort would do well to watch. Dumbledore had taken it upon himself to defeat the last Dark Wizard that had tried to take over the world, after all. What was to stop him from taking the mantle on a second time? Dumbledore accepted the gazes, wanted them in fact because while all eyes were on him - then the ones who were secretly part of the resistance would remain unnoticed.

It was with this thought in mind that Dumbledore knocked on the door quietly, waiting for Remus to open the door and allow him entry.
