Kurt was more than happy to keep an eye on Jane, it was getting to be close to the one person he had always wanted around. Sure she might not need it, but he did. He shared details of when they were kids, and there was always a smile on his face when he talked about her, about them together hanging out.
She was sleeping now and he was awake. He stood at a window looking out, every so often he would glance over his shoulder to watch her sleep.

( what is a thief to do when, after years of being coerced into service to the cia, she discovers that her government is far more corrupt than even she would have suspected? perhaps sanders and co should have thought twice of giving the kind of sensitive information proving that sort of thing to a thief — and one with reason to have a grudge, for all that she's become the cia's most effective agent — but they hadn't. admittedly: her orders had been to deliver the package without reading it, but part of what makes her such an excellent agent is that she's never been one for following orders blindly. it's also what's landed her in her current predicament, of course.
damn her and the fact that she still has some semblance of morals, questionable though they may be.
there aren't many places in the world that you can go and be at least somewhat safe from the long reach of the long arm of the united states. they've only grown more rather than less powerful in recent decades, after all — and perhaps china has grown more powerful, perhaps relationships between russia and the us are far less frosty than they were during the cold war, but nevertheless, one thing remains true: russia can still stand up to the us, and frequently does so.
now, solo isn't terribly patriotic, but she's well aware that russia doesn't exactly have an outstanding record when it comes to human rights and corruption and all that, but going to the united nations had seemed wholly ineffective. the us just has too much political sway in most other places, so she'd packed her bags for russia and now here she is.
she's handed over part of the information to the russian government, and a much larger part of it to the press, and the united states are calling her a criminal. it's funny, in a way, because she is, but this feels like the least criminal act she's ever committed.
between cries of outrage by the united states government, calls for her extradition and a rather large number of death threats from patriotic members of the public, the russian government has seen fit to give solo a bodyguard — as though she isn't perfectly capable of looking after herself, as though she isn't the cia's best. or was, rather.
to be fair: solo stopped protesting soon enough after seeing the guy they've assigned her. part of that is that he's an attractive fellow, admittedly, but mostly? mostly it's because he looks angry half of the time and stoic the other half and solo has never known when to let sleeping dogs lie. so instead of protesting that she can take care of herself, she's taken to prodding at her new bodyguard in myriad ways.
so far, she's found that he will eat food she cooks, but he will grumble about opulence and indulgence, that he will not drink but will tolerate her when she leans drunkenly against his side and even tuck her into bed with something akin to gentleness, that he likes chess far more than any human being should, but will not let her touch his chess set, that he likes putting bugs on her that she enjoys finding and returning to him, and that sometimes, he looks at her like she's the puzzle, not him.
maybe for him, she is.
right now, she's coming out of the bathroom in nothing but a silk bathrobe and a face mask a fetching shade of blue. he's sitting on the sofa in the hotel room they've been asked to share, "for your safety, ms solo", and so she settles on the sofa next to him, sideways, and unceremoniously proceeds to put her feet in his lap.
she's curious what he'll make of that. )

The girl who strutted in in slightly baggy jeans and a cheap TARDIS hoodie in a slightly clashing blue looked nothing like Blair expected for the bodyguard - instead she looked like a nerd, about Blair's age. "You've got a stalker. So your mother, rather than doing something sensible decided to hire me on the grounds that that means she can pretend that nothing is wrong. Something she seems good at." Barbara shrugged. "Which means I'm going to be around you a lot of the time. It's your choice how we work together as long as you don't get out of my sight." Partly because Blair's stalker was scary with a body count already.
[Either, though I'm tempted to say guarded because she'd find it annoying and very frustrating especially post-war.]
[ooc: So, my AU idea is to have them working for some kind of guild - the good kind because they're the protagonist and all - and have a very important mission. Kagami has to guard Kuroko until they get where they're going, where Kuroko uses his sneaky powers to get inside and get evidence or something more concrete that I will add later.
