That means that there's a pretty good chance, with regards to couples, you could end up with two people who have two varying approaches towards how they prove they care...sometimes radically varying, which can lead to more than a little confusion or hurt feelings if there's not proper communication. Long day — which went without saying, considering they'd spent most of it outside the walls. Although, thankfully, there had been little fighting to speak of, the riding and the sheer mental of toll from remaining on high alert had sapped most of Levi'senergy. Now that they were all back and safe at headquarters, though, the tension in his body was easing, and the aches felt duller.

He was still in one piece. Many of his men had survived. Things could be much, much worse.

Erwin summoned him for a short debriefing after dinner, then he was free to do as he liked. His first priority was to pay Petra a visit. By Levi's fairly careful count, this was then tenth time she'd made it back from outside the walls – a feet worthy of a superior officer's recognition at the very least.

He took his time reaching her room in the barracks. Once he arrived, Levi gave the door a few short knocks, the rhythm distinct enough for her to recognize.

Their daughter was five months old and had yet to sleep through the night. Kira didn't necessarily cry, or maybe Trip made it a habit to wake and see to her the moment he heard her stirring. Sarah would fuss that he was spoiling the little one when he got back into bed. All he could do was grin sheepishly.

He had stopped working as a field agent, consulting and working as a training officer for SHIELD. Sarah also consulted. Both kept as much anonymity as possible. It was as close to a normal life as anyone working for a secret government agency could have.

Trip couldn't be happier, hinting more often to his wife that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have another baby. He continued to do the things that Sarah never asked for (like bringing flowers home almost every night or buying her chocolates). That night, he made a favorite Siobhan had suggested was Sarah's for dinner and had a bath drawn with candles lighting the bathroom.

They had a tendency of working around each other's schedules so one or the other could safely watch Kira. Sarah had a late night and Trip wanted her to unwind. He put their daughter to sleep while mom had a chance to soak in the warm tub with scented oils. Dinner was kept warm in the kitchen until she came out. He waited at the table, idly using his laptop.

[ stealth is not a SOLDIER's forte. stealth is not zack's forte. but every now and then, miraculously, he manages to find it somewhere in himself to keep quiet for more than just a handful of seconds. usually when the element of surprise is involved - and distinctly funnier than the direct approach could ever be.

which, lately, most often means finding himself in a situation similar to his present one, with a certain blond cadet at his distinct disadvantage. it always makes him feel a little guilty, sneaking up on cloud, but rarely is that enough to stop him. it's just too much fun - and way too easy. zack never does less than his best to make it up to him - after he's apologized through his laughter enough times to make it convincing - but he's never claimed to be much for resisting temptation, either.

and cloud looking so utterly absorbed in his current stint on guard duty that he doesn't so much as flinch when zack ducks obliviously out into the narrow alleyway behind him is exactly that. of course, cloud's focus has got to be all on the street in front of him, not back here where to alley dead-ends at a perfectly innocuous side door that leads not into shinra HQ proper, but to a never-ending stairwell that runs up the side of the building - and that nobody uses, save for those hoping to sneak in. or out, without causing any of the usual hubbub in the crowded lobby.

picking his way carefully around the scatter of debris littering the narrow street, zack makes his way up quickly behind his unsuspecting target - then loops his arms around the trooper, slipping his hands up under his visor to cover his eyes. if cloud actually had his rifle in his hands, zack probably might've thought twice about just grabbing him. (probably.) but seeing as how the gun's idle across his back and zack's never actually seen him use that baton strapped to his leg (excepting the occasional attempt to knock something down from a high shelf without having to ask for help), he presumes to be safe.
