GROWING CLOSER On occasion, the fun in playing a romantic relationship is not actually playing the relationship proper, but the build up. The characters grow closer, frozen hearts can thaw, emotional barriers may fall, and insight is gained, both about self and potential partners... ...plus, it can be entertaining as all heck to play either a. awkward dancing around the subject, if your character is that type, or b. embracing all that warming up. A little of column A, a little of column B may scratch an itch you never knew you had. Play one little vignette in time. You may find yourself craving some more. Comment with your character, preferences, info, etc. Reply to others & thread it alll out. Have fun, guys!

[It's been one of those really long months early into their career together. The order was given to set off towards the Iron Bottom Sound, and to say it was rough getting things in that part of the sea under control would understate things far more than was necessary. Not that it really put Kongou down for that long; she was always a loud one. The sort that just seemed impossible to keep in a sour mood, even, in spite of dire straits.

It's just that this month was one of a handful of occasions that would see her constant sortieing catch up to her. Much like a lead weight strapped to a rubber band on her person snapping and sending her over, it wasn't long before she found herself out of position, with some bruises and a damaged rigging to show for it. Suffice to say, she wasn't too thrilled to be sitting in the docks for as long as she did. But then, she figured, after taking several clean shots from Ru-class Battleships, getting caught like that was inevitable...

Once she does make it out of the bath though, it takes her little more than a few minutes before she's stampeding towards his office again to make her ever triumphant return. Hopefully he's learned to use the shaking decor as a cue...]

A frigid rain raps along a window left ajar, making a sound like an unending sigh; rain that occasionally shifts to pour along the aged wooden floor. The rain and cold breeze both go unnoticed by the lone man in the room, a man much more focused on something on his large desk. Or so it would seem.

Ichabod Crane is trying, quite earnestly, to focus on the specimen under his microscope. His hands tremble at the handle of the fine focus knob as he works to adjust the view in the eyepiece -- but seems to grow exasperated when he finds trouble focusing his own eyes on the view. Outside a car comes to a sudden halt, wet tires wailing against brakes until forward momentum relents. An angry voice echoes from tens of feet below, down on the street, heckling, but deafened by the rain. Ichabod frowns tiredly.

Defeated, he removes the slide from the base of the microscope and replaces it in a small plastic sleeve, already labeled. The sleeve goes into a plain plastic box, looking more appropriate for a hospital setting than this dark apartment.

Ichabod moves with the grace of a hungover teenager as he takes the box to the woefully underused kitchenette, container in one hand while the other touches almost every stable piece of furniture along his way. Moving, the hungering ache in his body makes itself fully apparent. His skin has grown some shades duller and ashen; so dry, it almost feels uncomfortable to touch the cloth upholstery of the couch. In the fridge it goes, his box, beside a clear medical waste bag containing a dead rat. Drained of blood, as of a few hours ago, but far from enough. The rat he can sell for a pound or two to any witch looking for provisions. He tells himself he feels less guilty if he puts them to a better use than to tease himself with the relief of feeding.

Giles said he would be back by now, Ichabod muses when his eye catches the time on the clock -- well, less "catches" and more "notices the clock and works to read the time fifteen seconds longer than is necessary." Must he return to the basement a second time to scrounge for more rats -- a population of which that grows more scarce by the week? Or does he truly want to risk wasting his appetite on rodents when Giles could be shortly along with something better? Oh, what Ichabod would do for just a blood bag. At this point, he will take cold human blood over fresh rat.

A cold washes over the open layout of the apartment from the window, but Ichabod's numbed skin can hardly register the chill. He simply stands, hands propped against the pale tile counter, and relishes in this moment where he doesn't feel like the room is swaying around him. You have ten minutes, Giles, before Ichabod gives up and starts playing what's for dinner in the back alley.

[There was only one bar in this godforsaken hotel, and it had the best acoustics out of all the rooms, so of course this was were he practiced playing the bass. He'd prefer that there was no one else to watch him practice and mess up, but he can't chase away his friends if they were already using this room to relax.
