Let's have a Movie Night
There’s nothing like watching a movie, is there? It’s a chance to relax and have fun for a few hours. Whether it’s a romantic date with dinner and a movie or an outdoor film festival, it doesn’t matter.
That’s up to you.
So pick your genre, pick your location, and pick your season. Above all else?
Chillax.
The Deets:
- Post with a character.
- Like ‘The Support Group Meme’ and ‘The Adventure Meme’, post your preferences. Want a romantic date in the middle of winter? Is the Cannes Film Festival more your style? Or, do you just want a lazy afternoon in the living room with a Bond marathon going? It’s your choice.
- If you want something steamy or gory, note that too. We don’t want someone wanting a romantic tryst stumbling upon a zombie apocalypse!
- Join other film venues.
- Have fun.

You know. I'm not sure we should watch the mini series of Dune. There are a lot of pretty men, there, you could like somebody better than me.
no subject
What the heck ever made you think "pretty's" enough to grab my attention?
no subject
Well, they are extraordinary, too. And, for the most part, as kind as they can be, under the circumstances.
[ Rich blinked his eyes up at Peter innocently. Oh, he was so not serious. ]
I really feel threatened and insecure here.
no subject
I'm not seeing the kindness in poking fun at an old man here.
no subject
I'm all at your mercy, here. I don't know what you're talking about.
[ But... just because. He lifted a hand, cupping the side of Peter's face. Rose a little, and tugged him down a little, so he could give him a soft, soft kiss. ]
Not that I have any complaining to do about being at your mercy.
no subject
Ham.
no subject
That single word made him laugh, though. ]
For you? Always. Well, unless we're in the middle of something it a lot of witnesses, but you know what I mean.
[ After another long moment with his eyes fixed on Peter's face, Rich settled back down, shaking his head a little. ]
Let's make sure that the spice does flow. Haven't touched any of this story in years, I wonder how different it'll seem, now.
Joseph Joestar | JJBA | action, horror, old Hollywood classics and noirs
You bet your ass he saw Robocop.]

Joseph has aged over the years; Caesar hasn't. The moving pictures have changed, too — color has become the norm now, and the special effects have gotten better. The genres have been all over the map: noir, comedy, thrillers, cowboy movies and space operas. Superheroes came in vogue for a while, and with Perry White on the silver screen, Joseph had naturally had every opportunity to make every single great Caesar's ghost joke in the book.
And he is. A ghost, that is.
He can't always be around like this; it's taxing and difficult, but a few hours every so often, that's manageable. It's something to look forward to, in a petty, selfish sort of way; it's a change of pace from simply watching over Joseph from afar and on high, a few hours' respite when he can pretend that they're doing exactly what they would've been if he were still alive, if his hair had gone gray over the years like Joseph's and they were both old men growing older together.
As he sinks down into place at Joseph's side, he focuses his mind and concentrates (and really, he'd always been the more disciplined of the two of them, it's that same discipline that's coming in handy now), and as he does, he can feel the familiar weight settle around his shoulders, the continuous effort it takes to make himself heard in the world of the living.
Only one person will hear him. But then, that's the only person who needs to.]
Pay attention, you idiot. What kind of ridiculous flick have you picked out this time, huh?
no subject
And well, you know. After all their bizarre adventures when they were young, Joseph didn't need fifty years to get used to it.]
Who says I'm not? [Joseph hisses. If anything, he's had fifty years of practice on how to not look like you're talking to yourself out in public. Thankfully, this is a dark movie theater. As usual, the brief irritation fades quickly enough. "Long Tall Sally" blasts over the theater speakers. The old man grins.]
Predator. This is a new one. Arnold Schwarzenegger's out in the jungle and something's hunting him.
no subject
[He laughs softly, settling in and adopting a lazy reclining pose, his hands behind his head and one leg resting atop the other, ankle to knee.]
Let me guess, it's full of special effects and explosions.
no subject
[His eyes stay on-screen, but he crosses his arms with a lopsided smirk that's definitely meant for Caesar.]
Just watch it. You're never gonna guess who's after them.
[Cue the scene not too long after where Dutch and Dillon find all those strung-up, literally skinless soldier.]
no subject
[HOOOOOOOOOLY SHIT]
Agh!
[Ghost or not, he was definitely not expecting the literally skinless bodies, which means Joseph scores himself a point and an undignified noise out of Caesar in exchange.]
no subject
Be glad nobody can hear you, eh?
[Joseph might sound slick about it now, but this is actually his third time watching it. As squeamish as Joseph is, you bet he was grossed out the first time around.
But now he can just focus on other parts of the screen while acting Really Cool and relishing in the fact he knows a thing Caesar doesn't.
Cue a few scenes later after the enormous gunfight, complete with those explosions and special effects Caesar had been asking about (but seeing as this is the first time anyone's held a gatling gun onscreen though, that has to be a LITTLE be impressive, right?). But then double-cue the quiet right after, where that part happens. Joseph tries to subtly crane over to gauge Caesar's reaction.
What was it, Caesar? Huh? What was that thing? Are you wondering? Are you surprised? Please????? Be surprised??????????? Predator???????????????????????????????????]
no subject
And absolutely none of that makes a lick of difference to someone who really hates bugs, because the way things ultimately unfold is this:
The suspense is thrilling, the special effects are engrossing; despite his better attempts at acting cool and indifferent, the telltale signs of rapt fascination are still there — Caesar's slightly widened eyes, the way he's gradually moved to sit up a little straighter as the action has begun to take off. And for a few seconds, that's precisely what Joseph is treated to: Caesar, getting carried away on the suspense despite himself, wholly convinced that whatever he'd expected out of this particular film, he'd been dead wrong in his assumptions. (Which also made Jojo right in his assessment that he'd never guess, but you know.)
...
AND THEN THE SCORPION, and the rapt moment breaks in favor of a positively ugly shudder and an instinctive jerk of his head away from the screen, which ends up leaving him looking in Joseph's direction instead.]
no subject
[Scorpion aside, Joseph hopes Caesar catches that. He's obviously not being subtle about the "surprise" at least. Regardless, he grins at the spirit's reaction.]
You almost do the same thing Jotaro does.
no subject
[Alas, the trials of being a ghost mean some things are just beyond the scope of his capability, and delivering a shove to Joseph's shoulder is one of them.
Which is not to say that he doesn't still try, just that his hand ghosts right through. As things do.]
And don't be such an ass — have you seen this already?!
no subject
[Not that Joseph really cares. He only ever called his grandson Jotaro, and he was used to not being called Jojo anymore. Still, it was nice hearing it again from an old friend.
Back to the movie, Joseph only grins again like an idiot and Caesar literally puts his fist through him.]
What, me?
no subject
Joseph's need to be punched repeatedly in the face, in Caesar's opinion, is precisely one of those timeless things in question.]
Who knew you hated it so much, that you're so quick to give it away to someone else.
[What he doesn't say, but he does think — fleetingly — is that the nickname is another of those things that will never change, either. Not in his book or his world, where there's only one Jojo no matter how far away from 1939 he gets.]
You liar, why are you back to see a movie you've already seen, anyway?
no subject
[Hamon apparently not being one of them. Joseph half-wondered after Jotaro was born if he would inherit it the same way he did. But it was easy enough to figure no, probably not. Joseph had the combined benefit of being a third-generation user between his grandfather and mother, but it somehow never passed down to Holly, and she didn't care to learn. Joseph shrugs in his seat.]
I like it. I figured you would too.
no subject
When did you say this was made?
no subject
My year, 1987. Pretty cool, eh?
no subject
Wow. [She falls silent for a couple more beats, but then something seems to nag at her and she turns toward him slightly.] 'Your year'? Your ... birthyear? Or does this mark some other anniversary?

[He's teasing, of course, if it's not obvious enough by the way he's grinning.]
no subject
...What he hadn't expected was Joseph insisting he watch it, despite Ichigo's pointed looks and spelling out plainly that he couldn't see it anyway, so what was the point? After a long discussion, Ichigo found himself sitting on a chair, listening to the hiss of static as Joseph set up the video, feeling foolish.]
.....So what movie is it?
[This was joseph, so it had to be something pretty old - at least, by his timeline.]
no subject
Once the VHS is in, Joseph plops down on a chair next to Ichigo, arms crossed and grinning.]
Robocop. It's a new movie where I come from. You ever heard of a character called Alex Murphy? That's him, Robocop.

And for the most part, Tenten supports and respects his love of cheesy romantic comedies. So there had been no protest when he seemed adamant about catching the latest title to be added to the Dollar Theater marquee.
But he has to understand as well. She had her own traditions as well, established long before there ever was an inkling of 'them'. ]
Are you kidding me? That's such a cliche!
[ She just hopes he finds her blatant disregard for public courtesy and the cinema charming rather than rude. After all, there's a reason she goes to the Dollar Theater to watch movies no one cares about anymore...
Seated towards the front and leaning her head back into the chair, the young woman grabbed a small handful of popcorn and chucked it towards the screen, feeling a few kernels tumble across her raised knee and the foot propped up against the armrest in the row in front of them. ]
At least have a motorcycle!

This is one of his favourite movies; a thrilling tale of love and adventure littered with cliché upon cliché, the combination of which never fails to turn Kakashi into a schoolgirl when he watches. However, having seen it a hundred or more times it isn't like he's really missing anything thanks to her interruptions and besides, he has something much better to focus on thanks to her.
That isn't to say that he doesn't feel the few glares being cast in their direction, and so he catches her hand in his when she lowers it from the throw. ]
If you're not enjoying it we can always leave, you know.

Perhaps, exposing the young professor to this side of her so early on in their relationship was asking for much. Still, tradition was tradition, and her tendencies were all her own. But that did not mean her rude comments and extra commentary could not be kept to the two of them in the meantime. ]
Are you kidding? This is one of the better ones I've seen in a while.
[ She could make a compromise of sorts. Tenten was a reasonable person, after all. She could tone down for his sake. In fact, the little kernel she throws at the screen now? It comes with a discreet little squeeze of his hand instead of an insult. See? She could be a good girl for the Professor. ]
I mean... you're having fun, too, aren't you?

[ It was all in good fun, and Tenten had the self-awareness to not be too harsh in her actions. Still, a bit of a oddity that someone like Kakashi could find interest in her unique combination of sass, sarcastic ridicule, and propriety. ]
I prefer to fight my own battles. [ Feeling a smirk tug at her lips, she shifts her eyes from the screen to casually glance at the dark outline of his face. ] In fact, I would be happy to save you and your precious shirt from having to fight them too.
no subject
[ He gives a relieved little sigh and puts a hand over his heart - a clear tell that he's being dramatic, even if he controls his expression so much so that not even the faintest sliver of a smirk shows through. ]
I was hoping you'd say that. I'm no prince, so if anyone's going to be the damsel here, I'm sure it will be me.
