[ it started with a red box followed by a question, an offhand thought and then a challenge. the next thing mikazuki knows is that he's being handed a stick and instructed to put one end in his mouth like a pipe; the saniwa tells them that it's edible, a modern sweet that's named after the way it sounds when breaking in half. in front of him is tsurumaru who so confidently initiated the challenge after hearing said offhand thought from their saniwa.

after all, it's only a game, right? only a game, and swords too need to occupy themselves when not in battle. right, only a game.

mikazuki's smile is impeccable as ever, the chocolate-covered biscuit in his mouth looking ridiculous as he moves it up and down, as he patiently waits for tsurumaru. ]

[Cramming for exams wasn't usually Kaneki's preferred style of studying. Really, if he was being honest with himself, this probably didn't even count as cramming, not when he'd been pouring over the same information for the past few weeks. But since it was such an important test, it felt like he was cramming. At this point he really just didn't want to anymore, but he still didn't feel ready...

While he would prove to be a distraction no doubt, Kaneki was actually glad that he had Hide over to keep him company. They both had things to study for, after all. Of course, the silence doesn't last very long at all as the other boy strikes up conversation now and then, taking up ten or fifteen minutes at least before Kaneki would try to steer them back onto track. This cycle seemed to continue until it felt like he'd read the same line at least a dozen times over.

To his credit, he tries to keep his focus on his work, but when he hears Hide rummaging in his bag for something, Kaneki sighs and looks back up again.]

[It had been a pretty slow day, considering. Kaneki couldn't help but be silently grateful for it, since Touka had the day off today. He'd gotten used to taking orders, making them, and serving customers by now, but it always felt like more of a daunting task when he didn't have someone there just in case he made a mistake. But he'd made it through the day, and that's all that mattered.

He'd been clearing off one of the last tables near the back when Touka walked in, his gaze shifting from his work up to the door. He couldn't help but wonder what she'd done all day...study or something, more likely than not. But the box he spots in her hand as she heads in his direction catches him by surprise, prompting him to call out to her once she got a bit closer.]

Ah, hi, Touka-chan. Is that something from your friend?

[Yoriko was always giving her things, it seemed. Home cooked meals for her to sample, usually.]
